Garen walked down the already battlescarred street. Pieces of buildings and scorch marks littered the ground around him. He saw no bodies but that didn't mean no one had died here. The space port was up ahead, it loomed over the other buildings and Garen could feel his heart race in anticipation.

The Xen'Chi would never see this coming, a one man assault on a heavily fortified structure. No way, that simply wasn't possible, of course they had never taken Mandalorians into account when they had assumed that. Garen's carbine was tight against his shoulder and he constantly scanned the area around him carefully.

Garen reached the entrance to find four guards outside watching the intersection outside the space port. Garen enterred a building across the street from the guards and rose to the roof of the structure. He aimed through his scope and guessed the distance from the two on the left and the two on the right. He guessed two meters, Garen then set his carbine in its leg holster and held out his arm using his free hand to steady it.

He primed a fragmentation grenade from his launcher, made sure it was lined up right, and fired. The grenade landed amidst the group and knocked them all down, dead or dying from wounds. Garen quickly dropped to a nee and pulled out his carbine. He sighted it on the door and had to wait only a second before three other aliens stormed out to see what happened. Three headshots ended their inspection prematurely.

Garen decended the building and approached the entrance to the space port seconds later. Garen walked over the dead corpses as he enterred the building. He came into a reception area complete with a waiting room and a desk at the back. A door was adjacent to the desk and was opened slightly. Voices could be heard inside, Garen counted three seperate voices as he approached the door.

He holstered his carbine and pulled out three knives. He pushed the door open soundlessly and it opened into a storage room of sorts. Three Xen'Chi sat on top of boxes in the middle of the room conversing. One spotted Garen and rose up. A knife split the distance between his two eyes and the alien dropped dead.

The next to turn recieved a kinfe in its throat and the final Xen'Chi turned and got a kinfe straight through his heart for his trouble. Garen heard a box hit the ground to his right and he spun on his heel to see a Xen'Chi rushing him from an open cooridor he had not seen originally. Garen timed his side step perfectly and followed it by clotheslining the foolish alien.

The Xen'Chi landed hard and was dazed for a few moments on the ground. Garen lifted his boot and crushed the Xen'Chi's throat. Garen drew his carbine again and checked for any more 'surprises' waiting somewhere in the room. Satisfied there were none he continued through the storage room to a door on the far side.

The door slid up automatically, obviously made for easy access by workers hauling boxes of goods not for stealthy approaches by commandos. Two Xen'Chi drew pistols and fired through the opening at Garen. Garen dove to the right out of the door way, a plasma shot hit his thigh armor but failed to burn through. Garen was very thankful.

Garen had dove into a bunch of cardboard boxes, he quickly rose to his feet and looked around for somewhere to ambush the two from. He looked up and saw his opening. He jumped up and grabbed hold of a metal support beam. With his superior strentgh he was able to pull himself up into the intricate maze of support beams despite the weight of his equipment and himself.

He settled quietly above the door and drew his carbine. Not two but five Xen'Chi stormed through the door, Garen waited until they were all inside. Then he fired several times into two of the closest warriors before he smashed several of the nearby lights by throwing knives. Plasma lit the room as the Xen'Chi fired blindly. Garen switched on his low light vision and dropped down behind an unsuspecting victim.

Garen's arm shot around the alien's neck and he twisted sharply to recieve a loud crack and the body going limp. Garen exteneded the bayonet on his carbine and jammed it into the next Xen'Chi, the final one turned and fired at Garen. Garen rolled to the side just in time and fired three shots into the alien's exposed abdomen.

The warrior roared in defeat before falling dead. Garen left the room through the automated door before switching off his low light vision.

OOC: This took way too long to post. I blame life in general and the fact that I constantly felt I had to add more. Cadden if you need anything changed, tweaked, or altered just let me know. This pretty much wraps up the battle.

Garen walked through the empty hallway leading from the storage room to what Garen assumed was the main corridor. Garen guessed right, the hallway did lead to the main corridor in a T with the main hallway running horizontal and the hallway Garen was on running vertical.

He heard the sound of armored feet as a patrol approached, Garen took a breath and placed his carbine back into its holster. He took out his two curved vibroswords and held them firmly in his hands. The footsteps got closer and closer and Garen hugged the wall as close as he could manage.

When he saw the first Xen'Chi passing into the T intersection he didn't hesitate. There was no true thought process, Garen spun into the main corridor blades spinning and decapitated one of the front guards. They were patrolling in two columns with three warriors in each. Six on One...Five now...

The Guard next to the now headless Xen'Chi pulled his rifle up to aim at Garen but Garen moved far too fast. His attacks were vicious and blinding. He used one sword to knock the rifle aside and he plunged the second into the alien's throat. Before either of the front two aliens had fallen dead Garen took a step between the next two in line.

He ducked low and swung his blades around, cutting into their legs and tendons connecting their muscles and joints. They screamed in pain and doubled over. Garen rose and reversed the grip on both swords and lifted them into the air. He brought the blades down piercing through the Xen'Chi's backs.

The swords were stuck inside their bodies and Garen didn't have time to remove them. He took another hard step and smashed his elbow into the alien's nose on the right, breaking it and causing a splash of blood to caress the wall behind him. Garen ducked under the plasma shot of the other alien on the left and lashed out with his leg, taking the Xen'Chi's feet out from under him.

The Xen'Chi whose nose Garen had broken tackled him into the opposite wall. Garen hit hard and the Xen'Chi had produced a knife and stabbed at Garen's right eye. Garen nudged his head out of the way before head butting the alien, causing even further damage and pain to its nose. The Xen'Chi, now stunned, then received a furious follow up of punches to its gut cracking its ribs and a ferocious uppercut from an armored fist that broke its jaw.

The alien dropped, the other Xen'Chi was now rising up. Garen grabbed the back of the alien's head and forced it into Garen's knee. Blood erupted from the alien's battered face and Garen pulled a knife from a sheath near his boot. He stabbed the knife into the Alien's skull. The Xen'Chi stared at Garen before recognizing its death and rolling its eyes back into its head.

Garen was the only one left, the rest were dead or about to die from blood loss, massive trauma, or internal bleeding. Garen moved down the hallway farther towards one of three Anti-Air gun emplacements the Xen'Chi had keeping the Mandalorians from landing further troops inside the city.

Garen stopped at the corner of the hallway. It cut sharply to the left here and led to the roof turbolift where the three gun emplacements were located. Garen pulled out his two pistols and swung around the corner, his cape swinging around his body. The four Xen’Chi standing guard looked at him dumbfounded for but a second.

Garen adjusted his aiming from his initial guess of where they were and fired into the first two Xen’Chi. He ran forward putting a few extra shots into the armored warriors before they dropped. The other two raised pistols at him, blue plasma scorched parts of Garen’s armor and he took a lucky shot directly in the chest that knocked him back onto the ground.

The aliens ran at him, Garen braced his hands above his head and swung his legs up springing up quickly from his position on his back. The retractable blades on his pistols snapped out and Garen caught the closest Xen’Chi off guard, slashing its throat. Garen stepped behind the first Xen’Chi as he clutched his throat and the second fired his pistol in the space where Garen once was. Garen sidestepped and aimed around the side of the first alien, one accurate shot struck the final Xen’Chi in his head and he dropped.

The wounded warrior still clutched his throat in desperation to stop the bleeding. Garen walked by to the turbolift, no mercy, no remorse, these aliens wanted a war…he would show them war. Garen entered the small turbolift car and waited until it closed to begin checking his weapons and wiping the blood off his blades. He retracted the DL-22s’ blades and returned them to their holsters on his hip.

He took his carbine back out and checked its setting, he switched the fire rate quickly. It would tax the battery power but he could get re-supplied when reinforcements arrived. As the turbolift came to a stop Garen bent down and triggered his jetpack heading straight at the lift’s doors.

Using his arms to shield his helmet he busted through the lightweight turbolift doors probably made for cost effectiveness, never intended to stop a jetpack-propelled Mandalorian.

Garen surprised the twelve Xen’Chi clustered around the three anti-air guns on the center of the roof. The building was built in a U shape with the entrance-exit at the bottom of the U which the guns were placed atop and the landing pads were inside the U.

Surprised was an understatement, the Xen’Chi were starring in a mixture of awe and fear at the battle scarred armored warrior who had literally flew through the turbolift doors. Garen angled his jet pack so he would land feet first in front of the enemy. He didn’t fire, just landed in front of them.
He holstered his carbine and reached behind his back. His hands found the two curved vibroswords and he pulled them out and twirled them enticingly. The Xen’Chi looked to another and looked relatively confused.

“What, are you all afraid?” Garen taunted them, one of the larger Xen’Chi, probably almost two and half meters tall. It wielded on wickedly curved Srraka blade. Garen tilted his head and cracked his neck as the warrior approached.

“Puny enemy, I will squash you.” He said in poor basic, Garen almost had a skip in his step as he approached the beast of a Xen’Chi. The other aliens watched on laughing and talking amongst themselves. Garen was eager to put on a show, he stabbed his left sword into the duracrete ground and held out one sword at the Xen’Chi.

“I won’t need that to kill you, I’ll only need one arm.” His left arm went behind his back and out of sight. The warrior grinned and charged swinging his blades furiously at Garen in a diagonal arc.

Garen slid between the two blades as they came down, one cut off a piece of Garen’s small cape. Garen slammed the hilt of his own weapon under the Xen’Chi’s chin. The warrior was stunned and stepped back coughing, Garen dropped down low and took a step as he made three quick cuts that severed several tendons in the warrior’s right leg. Garen waited until the Xen’Chi dropped to a nee to reverse his grip on his sword and ram his blade through the back of the alien’s skull.

He stared silently at the remaining twelve, they raised their rifles at him. Even with his skill and power he couldn’t do anything to save himself now. Except drop the thermal detonator he was holding with his free hand behind his back and kick it into the Xen’Chi’s group.

The explosion threw the aliens about and damaged one of the nearby anti-air guns. Garen rushed forward pulling out his two blaster pistols and extending their blades. He cut down the confused and disoriented opponents shortly, taking no prisoners…leaving none alive. He jumped into the seat of one of the Anti-air guns remaining and turned it from the sky. He fired it on the remaining gun, destroying it. He then turned it to fire on a building a few blocks down that the Xen’Chi had missile launcher troopers atop of. The roof of the building was blown apart along with the missile troops on it.

Garen exited the anti-air gun and called in for reinforcements. A Crusader-corvette and a Meteor troops carrier landed and dispersed a group of some sixty Mandalorian Verde, the captain and leader of the group approached Garen. “Sir where is the rest of your unit?” Garen turned slowly to the Captain.
“What unit?” Garen could tell without even seeing the man’s face he was confused but quickly pushed it aside.

“What are your orders commander?”
“Leave a squad here to man the AA gun and hold the spaceport for further reinforcements. Have the rest of your warriors split into two groups, one you will lead to a rendezvous point with the Shadow warriors where you will submit command of your unit to Kyr Aden and his warriors. I will lead the second group in an attack on the Xen’Chi HQ from behind, we will use the chaos of the city fight as a cover for our attack.” The Captain nodded and went about dispersing his order to his troopers. Garen brushed the dust off his armor and checked his weapons before meeting his unit and moving out away from the spaceport towards the center of the city.

Garen led his warriors towards the city’s government complex. The complex was a single large spiral structure that housed the planet’s governmental officials most notably the imperial Governor that had once ruled over this planet. A courtyard surrounded the government building with a meter and a half high duracrete wall surrounding it. The Xen’Chi realized its strategic value as the center of the city and its highly defendable position. Still they had never expected Mandalorians to assault it.

Garen and his troops entered two buildings across the street from the rear entrance of the courtyard. Garen climbed the stairs to the top floor but did not go to the roof to keep him virtually invisible to the Xen’Chi across from him. He used his helmet’s macro binoculars to look into the courtyard. The Xen’Chi had plasma turrets set up on top steps of the Government building’s entrance, two of them. They overlooked the back side of the courtyard, which Garen was going to assault. They had also placed land speeders and empty durasteel crates in semi circles in several positions where a squad of Xen’Chi soldiers sat inside.

Garen counted the enemy count at anywhere from 100 to 120 warriors, and he knew they had more reserves inside the structure as well as snipers positioned on top. There was also the fact that the front entrance of the building was also manned and the Xen’Chi could send reinforcements from that side over to assist the rear. Garen adjusted his binoculars to see the building itself, he saw three platforms protruding from the side of the building where a turreted plasma turret sat on each. The place was a fortress, impossible to penetrate with a direct assault.

Garen connected his comlink to the main attack force engaging the outer defenses of the city. “This is Starfall, I am going to launch a surprise attack on the Xen’Chi’s command center. I need a diversion on the northern side of the city large enough to draw some troops away from the HQ.” It was a lot to ask and mandalorians would die as a result but taking down the Xen’Chi’s HQ would cut off local commanders from each other and separate the Xen’Chi army into small pockets of resistance which would be easier to eliminate than a coordinated army.

A Mandalorian Lieutenant approached from behind Garen, he wore faded red armor with yellow trimmings along its edges. It bore many dents and scorches, an obvious result of many battles. “Commander I am Lieutenant Rasok, my men are in position for the attack. We have one squad with us in this building and another in an adjacent building to the east.”

“Good, have two of your best marksman remain in each building to provide covering fire. The rest are to amass at the bottom of the buildings and wait for my signal to attack.”

“Yes sir.” Rasok left to give out his orders and Starfall took out his carbine and checked his jetpack’s controls making sure they worked appropriately. He waited until his allies were in position before he ascended to the roof. Garen started on the far side of the roof and stared at the edge of the roof some twenty meters across from him. The government building was only a block away and Garen knew in his head he could time his jump and rocket boost right to land where he wanted.

Garen set the grenade launcher in his arm to a concussion grenade and started running. Halfway to the edge he fired two grenades in quick succession over the rooftop and prepared to jump as he sprinted full speed to the edge. He took one more solid step inches from the edge and pushed off with every bit of strength he had.

Garen counted the seconds in his head as he flew like a brick across the open air. Stunned Mandalorian onlookers watched in shock and awe from below. The Concussion grenades went off far below not affecting Garen but forcing the Xen’Chi in the courtyard in a shocked and stunned state. As Garen’s arc declined he fired the rocket thrusters.

Inertia kicked in with a walloping force as Garen shot up into the air as his cape flapped in the air behind him. Garen soared straight at the highest balcony on the building where a plasma turret sat aimed at him. A pair of Xen’Chi warriors were sitting there manning it, stunned to see the flying Mandalorian they hesitated. Garen flew straight into one and drove him through the glass door behind him and into a lounge.

Garen recovered from the impact and rolled up to a knee, drawing his two blaster pistols. He swung them around and fired one into the head of the just getting up alien he had run through a wall and the other pistol fired into the gut of the second Xen’Chi running into the lounge from the hole in the glass wall Garen had created. Garen shifted his aim with his other pistol bringing both to bear on the single Xen’Chi still standing by the glass wall. Three more shots struck him and knocked the alien off the balcony to the courtyard far below.

Garen turned and pulled up a small building schematic inside his helmet’s HUD. He located the turbolifts and exited the lounge heading to the lifts. He sprinted down the hallway, knowing time was crucial to the lives of his men below. The plasma turrets were undoubtedly giving them serious trouble.

Sprinting down the hallway Garen barely had time to recognize what he was running by. It was not entirely surprising when a Xen’Chi rammed into him from a hiding place around a corner. The alien tackled him through a wall and into a moderately sized office room. The pair landed on a desk promptly breaking it in half.

The Xen’Chi pulled a small curved blade from its sheath and raised it above Garen’s head. Garen saw the blade coming and his left hand shot out and grabbed the alien’s wrist. The warrior was strong and the blade continued to fall slowly towards Garen’s neck, Garen decided to act before he lost the pushing contest. His armored right hand struck the Xen’Chi squarely in the nose, breaking the bone and causing blood to trickle out from the nostrils. Garen followed up the stunned alien by twisting its wrist and breaking it as well before swinging over and straddling the warrior.

Garen took the Xen’Chi’s own knife and sliced the alien’s throat with it. He got up and left through the same hole he had first entered from. Continuing to race down the hall he met no further contacts. He made it to the unguarded turbolift large enough to fit three or four men inside and selected the next level with a platform on it where a plasma turret most likely stood.

The doors slid open and three very surprised Xen’Chi turned to see a few red flashes as Garen shot them with his carbine before they had a chance to react. Even before the third and final warrior hit the ground Garen had left the turbolift lobby and was heading for the lounge outside the platform. He entered to see a small armory inside and two Xen’Chi in the center checking weapons and armor in several open crates.

Garen silently jogged up behind one and slipped his arm around its neck. The motion was swift and merciless, the second Xen’Chi heard the body hit the ground and turned to watch a vibroblade cross the gap between Garen’s outstretched hand and the warrior’s skull. The plasma turret on the balcony was firing ruthlessly down, pinning several Mandalorians below behind a wall now red from heat.

Garen walked up behind the warrior and took out one of his pistols. He aimed it directly at the back of the alien’s head and was about to fire when the Xen’Chi turned suddenly and tackled Garen to the ground. His pistol hit the floor and spun away out of reach. The Xen’Chi straddled Garen but Garen head butted the alien and tossed him aside before he could make use of the advantage he had.

Garen got up and faced the rising warrior, the warrior took out a Srraka blade and tossed it from hand to hand enticingly. Garen pushed his flapping cape back slightly and pulled out a vibroblade, getting a reverse grip on it. The two circled for a moment before the Xen’Chi charged Garen.

Garen ducked under the furious swing and pulled his blade along the exposed side of the alien. He was about to drive the blade into his opponent’s back when the Xen’Chi struck Garen with an elbow that send him back into a couch, knocking it over. He rolled to stop and rose in time to dodge the spinning Srraka blade coming at him that trimmed his cape slightly.

As he recovered from the rush the Xen’Chi came at him screaming. Garen took a hard step forward and clothes lined the oncoming warrior. Garen raised his foot and swiftly crushed the throat of the downed alien. Garen exited the room and proceeded to the turbolift once more, nobody dared to stop him. Five minutes and four Xen’Chi later and he had take out the third and final turret. He rode the turbolift to the communications room at the top of the spire like structure assuming the command center to be there. His comlink burst to life as he exited the turbolift into a hallway.

“This is Rasok, we have the first ten floors secure and are moving up from here. We took some losses getting in but we are making due. Expect enemy reinforcements to arrive anytime now…we left them a few surprises.”

“Good job Rasok, I am going to shut down the command center and meet you here when you can reach me.”

“Sir, are you going to assault the command center alone?”

“That’s correct Lieutenant.”

“I’m on my way sir, be there under the minute.” Garen didn’t protest, he was tough but help would be nice. Pride could kill him if he let it, so Garen waited in the hallway for Rasok to ascend. The Mandalorian looked relatively the same as before, except for the fresh blood on his armor.
“Sir I’m ready when you are.” He said hefting an old slug thrower shotgun onto his right shoulder. Primitive, but brutally effective…Garen liked his choice of weaponry. Aside from the shotgun a pistol was holstered on his hip, it looked heavily customized and Garen could only guess it was so because of how often he had to use it. Slug throwers were quite annoying to reload.

“Let’s go then, follow my lead we hit hard and fast.” That always seemed to be a good plan going into a relatively blind situation.

Garen reached the doorway and took a breath, his hand reached out to the control panel on the wall as his other hand gripped his carbine and extended its bayonet. Rasok made sure his shotgun was loaded and braced himself for the rush they were about to experience.

The door slid open, there was a moment of silence as Garen and Rasok entered, their weapons shouldered and scanning the room. Twelve Xen’Chi were present at different consoles. One Garen noticed had no plasma weapon but two large curved blades on its back…a Chosen no less.

Garen fired at the Chosen looking at him, the forcer dodged the laser and all hell broke loose. The boom created by Rasok’s slugger firing into the gut of a nearby Xen’Chi and propelling him back over a console set off a shockwave of return fire. Garen ducked and ran to the left firing bursts into two unlucky Xen’Chi which dropped soon after. A plasma bolt clipped Garen’s far right shoulder and he spun around hitting the floor.

Another boom sounded as two Xen’Chi flew back from flechette tearing into their bodies. Rasok pulled out his blaster and fired away to kill a third. Garen got up and ran towards a nearby Xen’Chi wielding a plasma pistol aimed at him. Garen twisted his body out of the path of the alien’s shot and advanced quickly on the Xen’Chi. The butt of Garen’s carbine struck the Xen’Chi in the open jaw and his bayonet was thrust up into the warrior's gut.

Garen pushed the body off his blade and raised his weapon to mow down another encroaching opponent. Rasok also cut down another enemy warrior, he then approached the Chosen who until then had simply watched his men get torn apart. Rasok fired at the alien, who dodged the laser and punched Rasok in the face knocking him back. The Chosen followed up by knocking Rasok’s pistol out of his hand and throwing a force enhanced kick into Rasok’s midsection.

Rasok slammed into the far wall and slumped down to the bottom, he tried to get up but incredible pain shot up from his ribs and breathing became difficult. He had broken four ribs and one had punctured a lung…he was out of this one.

Garen felt his anger build, he dropped his carbine and pulled out his two vibroswords. The Chosen not appearing surprised took out his two blades which were of massive size. They looked more like curved cleavers than actual srraka blades.

The Mandalorian sprinted ahead twirling his swords, he was a master of blades he knew that but the Chosen didn’t. Garen unleashed such a ferocious attack on the alien that the Chosen was caught off guard not expecting such speed and power from a non-forcer. Garen beat his swords against the Chosen’s defenses, refusing to allow him to take a breath.

The Chosen recovered, and started fighting back. Garen turned defensive, he gave little ground despite the fact that massive blades continued to strike his own swords. The power behind each seemed to come from a tank or walker not just one Xen’Chi. The sheer power was amazing.

One of his blades was knocked away and Garen was suddenly aware of the fact that he couldn’t hope to win conventionally against such a powerful opponent with the force to aid him. Garen sidestepped a vicious blow which landed on the floor. The blade struck the ground with such power that it was driven into the floor. Garen set one foot on top of the blade lodged into the ground and pushed off jumping above the Xen’Chi. He was forced to block another strike in midair that knocked his remaining sword out of his hand.

Garen landed and the Xen’Chi with a vicious howl ripped his blade free, he turned on Garen and stared at the warrior. The two faced each other, Garen seemingly weaponless and the Chosen obviously agitated at Garen’s resilience.

Garen sprinted straight at the Xen’Chi and the Chosen licked his chops as Garen sped towards him. The Chosen swung his blades horizontally at Garen’s oncoming neck. It was perfectly timed and would have surely decapitated the Mandalorian. Had he not slid under the attack and through the Chosen’s legs. Garen pulled a vibroblade out with each hand and sliced the vulnerable backside of the legs. He cut across the thighs and calves, the knee and groin with four quick strikes.

He slid out from under the Alien and rolled away. The Chosen fell onto its knees and desperately tried to rise up. Too many tendons and ligaments were cut and even the force couldn’t help the Chosen. Still the alien turned to face Garen, Garen grabbed one of his vibroblades by the tip and threw it skillfully at the Chosen’s skull.

The Xen’Chi’s force enhanced reactions enabled him to catch the knife in mid-flight. The Chosen threw it back at an incredible speed, Garen tried to move but was unsuccessful. The blade drove itself into his right chest, Garen dropped down to his knees and looked at the Xen’Chi as it grabbed its massive blades and prepared to throw them.

The huge cleavers spun through the air at Garen, he fell backwards and pulled out both of his blaster pistols. The two cleavers passed just above his prone form, he sat up once they had cleared with both pistols in hand. The Chosen’s eyes went wide with shock as several shots slammed into its body.

The smoking corpse fell back moments later, Garen rose up, holstering one of his pistols, and gripped the handle of the blade lodged in his chest. It certainly was driven into his chest but evidently not far enough to pierce one of his lungs. The extra thickness of his armor and the muscle mass behind them was sufficient enough to stop the blade from reaching his vital organs. Garen pulled the vibroblade free and dropped it on the ground.

He stumbled over to the downed Xen’Chi Chosen and shot it again in the head with his pistol. He stood over the body for a few moments before holstering his other pistol and walking over to Rasok. He took his comrade’s arm, tossed it across the back of his own neck and lifted him up. The two more or less limped out of the room and towards the turbolift. A squad of six mandalorians ran from the turbolift to Garen and Rasok.

“Where is your medic?” Garen asked.

“Down stairs sir, we have the courtyard and building secured.”

Garen brushed past the warriors and headed into the lift. Moments later both he and Rasok were in the ground floor lounge, just outside the reception room which led to the courtyard. Rasok was on a medical bed like a dozen others present in the room. His red and yellow armor that, similar to Garen’s own, was pocketed with scorch marks and scratches; it laid beside his bed.

He was stable and wrapped in several places in medical bandage. He had already coughed up a good amount of blood but an internal treatment of bacta had brought the hemorrhaging to a halt.

“Sir I can fight, just let me go.”

“I think we all should learn out limits Rasok, yours has been reached.”

“No sir, I know I can still fight.”

“There isn’t much left to fight, we have the enemies outnumbered and surrounded. Capturing the command center routed the Xen’Chi they are fighting to the last man but it is over now. We have won once more.” Garen had his helmet on his hip looking at Rasok but now he placed his helmet back on his head. “Rest for now, I’m going to contact our fleet in orbit.”

Garen made his way back to the top of the government building where he sent the message for the fleet to begin preparations to take on wounded and recruits. He then proceeded to make a planet wide announcement. “As of this day, Bandomeer will be taken into the Mandalorian Protectors’ domain. None of you will ever have to fear being subjected to such oppression like the Xen’Chi ever again. We call on recruits to swell our ranks so we may begin taking the fight to the Xen’Chi home worlds where we will crush them once and for all.”

Knowing history had been made Garen was content to simply sit down on top of the government building’s roof with his helmet off and enjoy the view of the battle scarred city. Another planet now would depend on him to lead them and protect them. Cadden was gone, Garen felt deep down that he wouldn’t be coming back soon or in the same capacity as he was before.

The clans would have to choose a new Mandalore, Garen already knew it would be him. As he looked at the burning city he hoped he had what it took to replace a man like Blackthorne.

Garen walked down the long corridor of the now battle tested Aggressor Destroyer Blackthorne. Repairs were complete on the battle damage received, the fleet was regrouped and loading up. New recruits on the ground were being ferried back to Mandalore where they were to receive training. Most were former resistance members and ex-police however a decent percentage were made of civilians and training them would take the longest. Not only were they to be trained to fight as Mandalorians but they had to be trained in how to ‘live’ as a Mandalorian or they were useless. Mandalorians aren’t just those born on Mandalore or the old worlds controlled by it like Ordo or Concord Dawn…Mandalorians are the warrior people who follow a tradition and share a kinship forged in pain, fear, and bloodshed. Being a Mandalorian was believing in an Ideal, not living on a certain world. They have to understand this, they have to become this.

As Garen passed by crewmembers they saluted him, hailing the new Mandalore. Garen was just getting used to it, he felt no different than he did when he fought alongside Cadden at the Battle of Mandalore. Garen’s wounds were mostly healed now, he had scars criss crossing his calves but they were no different from the dozens of scars covering his body. The one across his nose, the scorch on his lower back…the cuts on his arms, chest, and midsection from blades, shrapnel, and the force knew what else. His armor was scratched and dented slightly in places but a fresh layer of paint covered it giving it the appearance of both a new vigorous warrior and an old seasoned veteran.

His helmet was held between his left arm and hip leaving his face uncovered, Garen liked to show his followers that he was just like them. That for all the strength he had and all the relentless fury bottled up inside him…they too held it inside themselves. He was not superior, simply more determined.

Garen’s pistols were the only blasters he was carrying at the moment, they were strapped into their leg holsters securely. Of course there were half a dozen vibroblades spread amongst his armor in their sheaths, and the weapons built into his a gauntlets. A miniature grenade launcher, retractable vibroblades, and a newly installed grappling hook he added to help him ascend tall structures or tie up enemies he needed alive.

Garen arrived on the bridge, the captain had his armor on and he turned to see Garen. “Mandalore, the fleet is almost ready for departure. Where is our next destination?”

Garen looked at the holomap of the galaxy, he looked deep in the unknown regions where the original invasion had come from. “I’m going to find out for us…” Before Garen had come into command of the Mandalorian Protectors Cadden Blackthorne had struck a truce with the Imperials. Garen had inherited the truce, and the channels through which he could contact the empire. He departed the bridge and headed to the comm. room. He found the comm. channel he received when it was decided he was to be the new Mandalore. He opened the comm. channel…

“This is Garen Starfall, leader of the Mandalorian Protectors…”

Months Later....

"It's only been two months Mandalore, are you sure they're ready for this?"

"Them being ready is irrelevant. They are needed in this battle and so they will participate in this battle. The attack on The Xen'Chi homeworld is only days away and our units are already low on manpower."

"Yes Mandalore, I will send the message immediately then."

Garen nodded as the captain left to go about his duties. Garen grabbed his helmet from the table before him and placed it on his head. he rose from the chair of his private cabin and made his way to the breifing room. "This is Starfall, Dinsan, Aden, and Mors report to the breifing room." Garen needed his best commanders all present and accounted for at this meeting so they could create an effective strategy.

After a conversation with the Imperial higher ups the Mandalorians were now a part of the joint fleet going to attack Chil'a'chin. The bulk of the Mandalorian Assault Fleet was ready, but a few dungeon ships were receiving last minute additions in the form of several new Basilisk War Droids and replacement starfighters.

A few thousand recruits from the battle of Bandomeer were also now enroute thanks to Garen's orders. They were barely qualified as Shock Troopers but Garen needed the extra manpower onboard the ships. He had some things in mind he intended to use, but he needed the recruits on board various ships to repel any boarders while the more expereinced warriors are used in Garen's operations.

As Garen and the others conversed a strategy was formulated, the ultimate goal being both beneficial to the galaxy and to the Protectors' themselves. A quick construction was being made on the Blackthorne, two dozen Basilisk war droids and two Meteor class Q carriers were latched onto the outter hull and then a new thin hull was placed over the ships, small explosive charges were placed in perfect positions along the new hull. It was the first stage of his trap he was creating, Garen was hoping it would throw the Xen'Chi of their guard and allow the protectors' fleet an opening to exploit.

Garen sat up in his bed, sweat pouring off his face the pistol he kept under his pillow in hand and ready. His eyes quickly adjusted to the pitch blackness of his room, at first he merely saw silhouettes against the darkness but they took shape and he began seeing more detail on them. After a few minutes of scanning he was certain it was his own room, he swung his legs down off the bed and placed his pistol on the bed's moist covers.

He wiped the sweat from his forehead and got up, heading towards the shower. It took him little longer to get dressed in a pair of military utilities he wore when he was out of his armor, which recently was more often than he liked. Garen strapped one holster to his right thigh and left the room. He walked without really knowing where his destination was, he just let his legs guide him along.

Somehow he managed to end up in the medical bay, he walked past several empty bacta tanks until he spotted one occupied tank. The warrior's left leg was completely gone and his chest had a gaping black hole on it where the skin was burned away and muscle in the process of being made was present. His breaths were labored and slow. a quick glance to the medical display told Garen that his heartbeat was irregular as well...Most consider Mandalorians to be heartless monsters who commit wholesale slaughter on the battlefield leaving none alive except a few to tell the tale.

For the most part the Mandalorians themselves didn't care, such an attitude toward them kept others away and those that were brave enough or dumb enough to search them out never succeeded. Right now though Garen felt why being a Mandalorian went so much deeper than killing. He has more than his fair share of scars...physical and emotional. Years of frontline warfare against the toughest opponents ever to fight in this galaxy, except for the mandalorians themselves, had left Garen beaten to the brink. He lost dozens of comrades and good friends, friends that had trusted him with their life...he had failed them.

The burden of their deaths was his and his alone...every mandalorian warrior under his command was his responsibility; he took their deaths as his consistent failure. He knew death was inevitable in the Mandalorian life, but that didn't mean he had to accept that he was going to lose men and women under his command.

Footsteps from behind him broke him free of his trance, he stiffened, his hand dropped to the grip of his blaster, and he looked at the reflection in the bacta tank. He saw someone he would have never expected...someone he thought was dead. "Valery?" He could never forget her face and beautiful green eyes that looked with such compassion at him.

"Garen Starfall...." She said with a bit too much bravado. "Or should I call you Mandalore?"

"No please, Garen is great." She smiled brightly and Garen had a sudden feeling of oddity.

"I see you've met Jason..." She said walking up beside him, she stopped right next to him. Close enough that swaying slightly would bump into her, her eyes were glued to the man in the tank. Garen looked at him and his heart shrunk again.

"Jason...I wish I could have saved him..."

"I know you do, all you command types are the same. All business on the battlefield but in reality you're all just sweet old men." He turned and gave her a stern stare. She giggled happily, turning to him. "Relax, I was only joking you're not 'that' old."

Garen turned back to Jason. "Will he make it?"

"The chief surgeon says no...but I believe he will."

"His wounds are extensive, he must have been extremely close to a hospital when he was injured."

"He was onboard the dreadnaught I served on with him. Remember when we first met onboard that ship? He was one of the crewmembers during the battle of Mandalore. When we were abandoning the ship due to severe damage two other nurses and I grabbed him and took him into the escape pod with us. We stabilized him the best we could and luckily were tractored under five minutes."

"I see, a lucky man to have a guardian angel like yourself watching over him."

"I hardly consider myself a guardian, or an angel. I would have saved many more lives if I was."

"Sometimes we just must be grateful that we saved the ones we could."

"Listen to yourself you hypocrite." She said raising her eyebrow. "How about we got get some cafe, we should leave Jason alone for now."

"Sure." Garen then led her to the mess hall where they sat down at a table and sipped cups of cafe. Nobody disturbed them, no one really knew who Garen was outside of his armor. Only a few of his command crew and a couple of his bodyguards who were former comrades.

"So where are we going to next? What planet are we going to conquer?"

Garen was taken aback by her direct attitude. It took him a second to compose himself. "We did not conquer Bandomeer, we liberated it."

"You want to play the words game huh?" She set her forearms on the table and came closer to Garen. "Liberators 'leave' once those they liberated are free."

Garen mimicked her move, bringing them face to face. "We 'incorporated' them into the protectorate, for their own protection."

She looked into his eyes and he returned the favor. "And they had any say in this decision?"

"They had some say yes, if they didn't want it they could have easily cast us off their world. We are not an occupation force...we're an assault force."

"So because they aren't warmongers looking for another fight after they were mauled by the Xen'Chi we should walk all over them?"

"They are too weak to defend themselves, they need us as much as we need them."

"So you will defend their world?"

"I and every Mandalorian in the protectorate."

"What if you must choose between Mandalore or Bandomeer?"

"I will choose the more strategic world..."

Silence ensued, neither diverting their gaze from its deadlocked state. Garen was shocked at Valery's standings, and her courage in disclosing them...to the Leader of the Mandalorians no less. Finally she leaned back.

"I guess we will see..."

"No we won't, soon this Xen'Chi threat will be over...and we will prosper."

She looked genuinely convinced. "I believe you mean that, doesn't mean it will happen but at least you believe it will...and I believe in you."

"Belief isn't enough though."

"Belief is always enough, belief will save Jason's life. Belief will bring us all home safe." Her comm started to beep and she looked down at it. "My shift is starting again, I'll see you later Mandalore." She added the title sarcastically. Garen merely smiled and was left sitting there thinking about his own 'beliefs', he didn't realize how many he had.

Day of the Attack....

Garen stood now on the bridge of the Blackthorne alongside Admiral Regar, the Mandalorian commander in space. The warrior was almost as tall as Garen and his armor was yellow with red stripes outlining the plates and visor. Garen in his blue and gold armor was fully loaded with weapons of varrying kinds. All made for close combat, they had received Thrawn's battle plan and Garen intended to follow it as to not put victory in jeapordy.

However, his first duty was to his people, and to accomplish this duty after the war they needed to be ahead of the game. Garen had a battleplan devised already, incredibly risky and costly but if it worked the mandalorians would effectively double their military might. The Admiral turned to Garen. "Mandalore, I have received news that the final shipment carrying the 'special' items you requested is running late. We won't be on time for the rally jump."

Garen felt a tinge of anger but let it slide off him. "Tell them to hurry, the fleet may well be locked in battle by the time we arrive."

"They are making best speed here Mandalore, are we changing the batle strategy now?"

"Have the fleet assemble in battle formation now, have all fighters and war droids go on standby. Make sure our surprises are loaded up and awaiting the items i specified."

"Yes Mandalore, and I will have full fleet command?"

"Yes Admiral, I will be boarding a basilisk War Droid and leading the other war droids into battle. I can't command the fleet in the midst of battle myself."

"I will not fail you Mandalore." Garen patted him on the shoulder and turned to exit the bridge. The Admiral had been taking a second hand command role for some time now. He has battle expereince but not as a fleet commander and certainly not in a battle of this scale. It would be a true test of skill and cunning for him. As Garen enterred the war droid bay he saw as many of his brothers turned and looked at him in awe.

Across Garen's back were two criss crossed vibroswords, his custom design which encoperated a slight curve to allow better slashing. His thighs held his dual blasters complete with their small swing out vibroblades, and a third holster on the back of his belt which usually held his carbine held a double barrelled flechette shotgun with blades attatched under the stock itself. Of course there was almost a dozen sheaths holding vibroblades spread throughout his armor. He had outfitted his gauntlets again, removing the small grenade launcher from the right one substituting it with a plasma torch.

He mounted his war droid without speaking and checked through all the systems again. All that was left now was to wait...

As Garen double checked his droid's diagnostics on its engines and weapons the admiral spoke into his ear.

"Mandalore, your special delivery has arrived and is being distributed to the supercommandos now. We are ready."

"Excellent Admiral, jump to hyperspace and then patch me through to the entire fleet." Garen heard his comm signal being relayed then heard a small burst of static as he went live to every mandalorian in the fleet. "Some time ago, alien ships decended upon our world. They landed on our soil and spilled our blood on it. We drove them off, slaughtering ever last one of them. Now we decend upon their world, a complete reversal of position. We are Mandalorians, the greatest fighting force the galaxy has ever seen, all those present at this battle will bear witness to our unmatched battle skills and bravery. Mandalorians! Prepare for glory!"

The comm channel switched off as anxious warriors screamed war cries.

A hyperspace window opened as the early stages of the battle were under way. The battle was raging to the left of the Mandalorian fleet. The right flank of the allied task force was being assaulted by a much larger number of Xen'Chi vessels. Admiral Regar immediately put his ships into action. "Impliment the battle plan, prepare the tags and power weapons. We're going to cut straight through the Xen'Chi's attack and make a straight shot to link up with the rest of the allied fleet. Keep our ships close, and make sure the Blackthorne is protected until it is in range to drop its payload." The ships moved into action. They approached the first of the enemy ships, an Imperator Star Destroyer and a pair of Nebulon B Frigates, thrall vessels.

As the approached them the ships fired upon the mandalorian fleet. One Dreadnaught couldn't bear the firepower arrayed against it and lost its weapons and shielding. With only drives left the ship surged forward straight for a Xen'Chi cruiser. The Dreadnaught gourged flames as it was bombarded, but it stayed on course and rammed into the larger vessel. The Cruiser's shields collapsed and the dreadnaught smashed into its bow. A second later the dreadnaught overloaded its power generators, the resulting expolsion ripped the cruiser in half.

The Blackthorne finally came in range of the small group of thrall ships. Added plates of durasteel on the hull of the ship popped off thanks to explosive bolts used to attatch them. As the plates flew off a swarm of Basilisk War Droids and Meteor class-Q carriers detatched from the hull and sped towards the thrall vessels. The commanders of the ships panicked at the oncoming wave of ships. The war droids latched on and using newly installed plasma torches cut large holes in the ship's outter hull. The carriers used grappplers to latch onto the enemy ships, their ramps dropped and vacumn sealed Mandalorian Supercommandos emptied from the ships.

As one such carrier was about to drop its ramp a turbolaser turret swung to fire on it, the commandos never had a chance to make it out. Sill, nearly a hundred Mandalorian supercommandos breached the three thrall vessels and were now swarming into them, taking control of critical systems with great speed. They had no need to make sure a compartment was vacumn sealed thanks to their extra hour of oxygen in a tank strapped to their backs. The occupants were not so lucky, they suffocated as the mandalorians walked over their dying corpses towards their objectives. The crew could not force them out of the ships now, the highly trained and battle hardened warriors were far to great a match for the security detatchments and poorly trained crew members that tried to halt their advance.

Garen Starfall and two dozen other supercommandos on war droids, including Kyr Aden and his Shadow Warriors, and Aeorn Mors headed straight for a Xen'Chi Hetch'hek cruiser. The elite warriors rode their vessels towards the cruiser, flanked by two squadrons of Jai'galaar fighters. The group blasted and weaved its way through Xen'Chi and Thrall fighters, the Jai'galaar's did their best to cover them, despite taking losses.

The war droids landed on the cruiser and began cutting into the vessel with their plasma torches. The warriors were forced to leave their war droids on the outter hull of the ship, setting them to autopilot to return to the Blackthorne.

Garen dropped into the ship. The Xen'Chi inside had been sucked out of the compartment already through the opening Garen had created. Garen opened a channel to Kyr Aden. "Kyr, take your men and capture the engine room. Mors take your team and make your way for the comm center. My team group with me in corridor marked A-5, then we will make way for the bridge."

The Mandalorian fleet plowed through the Xen'Chi flank, causing mayhem and confusion. It was a great distraction, they took losses however. The Blackthorne couldn't fire its cannons yet as it still needed power for shields and thrusters. The Mandalorians took down several Xen'Chi Ships and Thrall vessels. The ships on which mandalorian commandos were boarding were tagged for all allied ships so they knew not to fire on the vessels.

Admiral Regar informed the imperial led allied fleet that the mandalorians were joining up with the fleet.

Over Mandalore days after Chil'a'chin...

Regar and Garen stood in front of a holographic map displaying the galaxy, Garen walked to the side to speak to Karric Nayms for a moment. Regar could hear Garen's side of the conversation but failed to hear Karric's.

"I see Karric, and this new battleship prototype will be ready when?... Excellent, and you also mentioned this new type of Assault ship, when will that be prototype ready?...Understandable. Tell your scientists to keep up the good work and to continue dissecting that Xen'Chi cruiser." Garen walked back over to the Admiral.

"I apologize Admiral, it seems a new addition to our fleet will be ready within the month. A Kedalbe-class Battleship and a new Aggressor-class Destroyer. They should fill our capital ship ranks until the Blackthorne is patched up again." The Blackthorne needed a month in dry dock for repairs, as well as half the surviving ships of the battle. The three Thrall ships, now claimed as property of Mandalore, also were refitted and repaired to bring them to full combat readiness. The Imperial Star Destroyer was going to increase the space fighting capability of the Mandalorian fleet greatly. Yet from what Garen understood, the Kedalbe Battleship would rival any ISD in space combat. Something Garen was looking forward to testing.

"No apology is neccessary Mandalore, that news brings me great joy."

"As it does to me brother, now where were we."

"We were discussing our next move." He turned back to the holodisplay. "As you know, we lost contact with Cadden Blackthorne after he departed. Recent intel we collected tell us he was present at the battle of Onderon. We checked the casualty list three times, he wasn't killed or wounded."

"So where did he go?"

"Sir there was however a Blackthorne casualty." Garen turned his head slowly to Regar. "His father, Faarel Blackthorne was killed." Realization flooded Garen.

"As a mandalorian Regar..." He turned and looked at the galaxy map. "what would you do if someone killed your father?"

Regar also turned, catching where Garen was going with this. "I'd hunt them down and kill them slowly..."

"Exactly." Garen removed his helmet and set it on the table, the door to the breifing room opened just as he turned around. A woman in a Doctor's dress and a young girl enterred. Garen smiled at the pair. "We will discuss this in further detail later my friend. For now dispatch the fleet as we agreed, releive all drafties of their duties and begin active recruitment of volunteers, make sure they get top training we can't affford to be unprepared should someone strike at us now." Regar left, nodding to the woman and Garen before leaving.

"Hello there." Garen said smiling at Carissa, the young girl hugged Garen's leg. It surprised him, of course he was the only familiar person she knew now.

"She insisted to see you." Valery said walking up to Garen. She glanced at the galactic display. "Trying to find more planets to liberate Mandalore?"

Garen picked Carissa up and stood up. He held her with one arm, her small arms were wrapped around his neck. The sudden attatchment was slightly uncalled for but Garen was ok with it. She didn't have anyone, Garen thought by being there for her he'd get a feeling of fufillment.

"No, we don't intend to 'liberate' any more worlds for the time being. I was actually trying to find someone."

"Oh really" She said walking over to him and leaning against the breifing table, running a hand carringly through Carissa's hair.

"Really, the man was a friend of mine and he suddenly disappeared. If he needs help I want to help him."

"Maybe he doesn't want your help, thus why he suddenly disappeared."

"He would have simply said he wanted no help if such was the case."

"Whatever you say Mandalore, how about we get something to eat." Carissa nodded.

"Yeah I'm hungry."

"I guess I'm outnumbered." Garen said setting her down smiling and walking out towards the mess hall.

"Do you understand the goal of the hunt?"

"I do Admiral Regar."

"I trust you will accomplish this goal for Mandalore, Togra Locklear. Start at Onderon, the Jedi will assist you in your hunt to a degree but you may have to find some details on your own."

"Whats the point of the hunt if you don't have to work for it."

"You are one of our best, act accordingly." The channel closed. A single Constable-Class Enforcement ship named the mirdala prudii loosely translated it meant 'Clever Shadow'. Only one man was onboard, it's destination was Onderon.

The heat of the furnace made him sweat, his bare chest bore a few scorches from rouge sparks already but he didn't even react when they had hit his skin. Garen brought the hammer down once more on the Mandalorian Iron, it shruddered and flattened slightly under his power. He had one of the best blacksmiths on Mandalore give him lessons before the Xen'Chi war, so far he had only performed minor repairs on his armor however with great success.

Now he was forging a pair of blades, two Beskads, ancient Mandalorian swords. The labor was long and hard, it took great skill and finesse but Garen's steady hands and pure determination allowed him to continue. Several of the best blacksmiths aside from the one that had helped train Garen had stopped in and gave him advice, helped occasionally, and overall offered congratulations to him on his work so far.

Still the swords were not yet complete, so with another stroke of his hammer Garen continued his work knowing that they would be invaluable assets to him in the future.

It had taken him days but now he held two swords in his hands. They were painted black, being made of Mandalorian Iron meant that they could deflect most blaster shots and even the powerful lightsaber had trouble burning through the metal. Satisfied he put the blades down on his workshop table next to his armor which he also recently repaired and repainted. He walked outside, he instantly felt the coolness of the air breeze past him and it was a refreshing moment. He continued to walk through the fields towards the main house, where Carissa was sleeping most likely, it was still early morning, and Valery was lying with her.

Garen and Valery had made it know they were interested in each other, subtlty wasn't a common traiy among Mandalorians, and Garen had insisted she live with him and help watch over Carissa who seemed to be coming of age. As his hands ran over the crops up to his waist he felt at home, the feeling was very comforting. The farm itself he had purchased and the construction on the house, which was not very large having two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room, and on the shed where his smithery was was recently completed.

He opened the front door, which was unlocked since he had no reason to fear his own people, and was greeted by the fresh scent of breakfast. He walked calmly into the living room and spotted Carissa eating a delicious looking plate, she looked up at him and pointed.

"He's too dirty! His face is all black." Valery leaned into the doorway to see Garen. She smiled, more like grinned, when she saw him.

"She's right you know, you are way too dirty. But I think I like it." Garen gave a smile back.

"Good to know." He walked into the bathroom and turned on the shower. He made sure to make it cool, he had spent enough time in the heat the past few days. He made sure the door was shut behind him, it would certainly not be appropriate if Carissa walked in.

The water was definately relaxing, it was probably one of the best showers he had ever taken. The physical ache in his muscles and the overall raised body tempreture both subsided. "Let's go Manda'lor, breakfast is ready!" He head Valery yelling. Garen smiled to himself as he finished cleaning off and exited.

As the group ate together Garen had a strange sensation befall him. This was his family, after so many years of being alone he finally had a family now. Then he thought of something he had forgotten long ago...his brothers. He was three when they left, his older brother of 12 and his younger brother just a year old. They were taken by some friend of his father's that claimed to have the rights to the children. Valery must have seen he was thinking of something unpleasant and looked at him concerned.

"Are you okay?" He looked at her slowly, he knew what he had to do. What kind of Manda'lor was he if he didn't do this? What kind of man would he be if he didn't do this?

"I'll tell you tomorrow." He said returning to his meal, there was a short silence as Valery continued to look at him but she started to eat soon after.

There was a silence as Garen finished slapping his leg armor on and strapping it into place. He stood up straight and looked at Valery in the doorway of the shed, the cool breeze toying with her long black hair. Garen held his neutral face of determination, she couldn't dissuade him from this. He needed to do this for closure, and hopefully to reclaim what was left of his family.

She didn't try to dissuade him though, instead she surprised him. "Carissa and I will be waiting for you Manda'lor. Take care of yourself." Garen grabbed his helmet and he carbine. He walked over to her in the doorway and looked at her, he took in every line, every curve of her face and committed it to memory.

She kissed him lightly on the cheek. "Ni kar'tayli gar darasuum. " He said just slightly more audible than a whisper. She smiled at him.

"Ni kar'tayli gar darasuum manda'lor. " He returned her smile and put his helmet on. She moved to the side to allow him through the doorway and he moved through, not daring to look back and risk changing his mind. He took his speeder bike all the way to the spaceport in Keldabe where he found his newly purchased ship from Mandalmotors, a Sathas Freighter. He requested the addition of advanced sensors and comm equipment so it could act as a command ship for fighters. It was the Carasuum, or the Eternity in basic and it was his ship. There was a particular Mandalorian leaning on his ship, Garen recognized the red and gold armor. It was Kevin Rasok, they fought together in the battle of Bandomeer. Rasok was wounded in that battle, though it didn't keep him out of the final battle.

"Su'cuy manda'lor." Kevin said as Garen approached.

"Did she send you?" Garen simply said stopping before the warrior.

"She did." Garen rolled his eyes though the gesture was unseen behind his visor.

"This is a personal matter."

"I'm not letting another Mandalore disappear on personal business." Kevin's tone was now determined. Garen was not going to change his mind, besides he might need a hand.

"Alright then let's go." Garen walked into the freighter with Kevin in tow. He sat down in the co-pilot's chair without a word. Garen sent out his prepared messages to Kyr Aden, Jesik Regar, and Nedth Dinsan to take charge of Mandalorian assets in his absence. He also included his reasons for departing in the message, he felt they should know.

As the Eternity lifted off the ground and headed out into space Kevin took his helmet off. Garen did likewise, Kevin had brown eyes and short black brown hair. A long scar ran its course from below his left ear down to his chin, it was only a year old at the most. Meaning he received it during the war with the Xennies. Garen had quite a collection of scars from that, and he was sure Kevin had more than just the visible one.

"So where to?" Kevin asked checking waiting to punch in the coordinates.

"Commenor." Garen said simply. Rasok didn't ask why or anything, he just put the coordinates in and by the time they cleared the gravity shadow they left the system.

The Carasuum touched down on Mandalore to be greeted by a party of fully armored Mandalorian Supercommandos led by Jesik Regar holding his helmet at his side. The ship's ramp lowered and Garen strode down fully armored as well. Behind him Kevin Rasok walked in full armor, Beric and Remus Koral were behind him. They carried duffel bags over their shoulders but wore no armor, just combat vests. Laura storm and the large brown haired wookie Toricha walked behind them.

"Mandalore, it is good to see you have returned."

"It is good to be home." Garen looked to the armored commandos next to Regar and looked back at the Admiral. "What recent deveolpments are there."

"The repairs on the Blackthorne are complete. The Keldabe and Aggressors that were almost completed when you left are now battle ready. Recent technological advancements from reverse engineering the Xen'Chi cruiser we captured have allowed us to upgrade the Aggressor design. Its plasma shots are more powerful and require less energy. Also a contract from the Tapani Sector is most interesting. We have not accepted it yet but we assured them we are interested."

Contracts were always good, especially from sectors like Tapani. Those sectors that were attacked by the Xen'Chi. They had little military might left, the Mandalorians were cheaper than building a new battle fleet and the job was certain to be accomplished. "Excellent, send my brothers to Dinsan and request him to train them as supercommandos. They are already very skilled, it should take a few months at the most."

"Yes Mandalore." Resik nodded motioning one of his commandos to escort the Koral brothers to an awaiting shuttle.

"Also I'd like to give my furry friend here some armor. Not a full set but a helmet, chest plate, and arm gauntlets." Toricha roared thankfully, Garen had begun to understand some of the language now.

"I see, Manda'lor there is one more thing I wish to discuss with you. It involves Locklear's mission." Garen nodded.

"You may all leave, Toricha follow these commandos here and they will lead you to a temporary apartment in Kedalbe. I will come and see you in a few days. Kevin, Laura, I will see you later." The party left, leaving only Garen and Jesik.

"Manda'lor, Togra has found several indications that Cadden traveled through the Udine system, he also mentioned that at least one installation in the asteroids was at one time operated by Mandalorians. He has some information on a datapd that looks very promising."

"Good, he was indeed the right choice for the hunt."

"He says he travels with Guan Blackthorne, Cadden's son. Togra says he is different than his father yet still quite like him."

"An interesting choice of an ally. Make sure he knows his mission parameters. Is that all Jesik?"

"Yes Manda'lor, as you instructed Mandalmotors is working as much as possible to continue our fleet buildup."

"Good, we need a strong capable fleet if we seek to have the influence Blackthorne envisioned." Jesik nodded, the two men walked away. Garen returned home to see Valery and Carissa, almost on the spur of the moment he asked Valery to marry him. She accepted.

In the bellows of a massive Mythosaur skeleton stood Garen and Valery, Garen was in full armor polished to a shine and with a fresh coat of paint and Valery was in a shimmering golden dress fit for a Kuati Noble. The pair stood on a pedestal, Admiral Regar stood behind them reciting the wedding vows in Mando’a. Before the two were first several ranks of Supercommandos and Warriors that personally served with Garen in one battle or another, including Kevin, Toricha, and both Koral brothers. Behind that rank were nearly two hundred supercommandos in gleaming armor and behind them ranks of warriors stood solemnly. Behind the military spectators were thousands upon thousands of civilians, filling up the small canyon they were in.

As Regar finished the speech Garen nodded to him and he returned the gesture. He then wrapped Valery in his arms and kissed her passionately. A roar of cheers rose from the crowd and the volume only increased when Carissa ran up and hugged Garen’s leg. He released his wife and raised his daughter on to his shoulder, grinning proudly over the crowd.

One would expect there to be some measure of ease for a few days even weeks after the wedding, this was not the case. The next day Garen had met with Regar, Aden, and Dinsan to further discuss battle tactics for the upcoming event. The ‘council’ all had their helmets removed and were gathered around a tactical display that had just been shut down. The meeting was nearly over.

“Regar you must begin training your selected crew immediately. I know we have most of the ship’s systems understood but we need complete control of the ship for this to succeed. There can be no mistakes; the attack will fail if there are.” Garen said. He walked over to the observation platform on the other side of the room. The others followed him and listened. He set his hands on the railing along the edge of the platform and looked out on Kedalbe. He then continued to speak. “Aden get Mors, you two will be with me during the assault as my sub-commanders. You pick out the best commandos for the job and Mors will give them advanced Zero-G training.

“Dinsan I need you to gather a significant force of Warriors with supporting Air-speeders and armored support to take the capital. The contract is not complete unless it is a total victory, land and space. The Admiral will help coordinate our ally’s attack with our own. Our forces are better equipped, better trained, and more disciplined. So we will bear the heaviest of the resistance.”

“Will our Ally’s troops be sufficient to take them down? We’ve all fought them before; they do not fight like a file and rank army….they fight more like us.” Dinsan queried with a hint of doubt in his voice.

“They are determined and have good commanders, we can depend on them to do their share of the fighting. I assure you. Anything else?” No one spoke. “Regar what is the status of the fleet currently?”

“It will be ready on schedule, I had to pull some crew off leave but the rosters are filled now.” Regar answered with that heavy, commanding voice he always seem to have.

“When they return they can resume their leave, we are not going to war. It’s a simple contract, in and out.” Garen said moving away from the railing and returning inside. He grabbed his helmet and put it back on, the other commanders did likewise.

“Sir, you know nothing is that simple.” Regar said.

Garen faced him, regret leaked into his voice but his decision held firm. “We know many trades, but there is one that we excel at beyond all other species. We are warriors, we live and die on the field of battle, death and destruction is our main export. Lives are always going to be lost, but they are lost doing what they were meant to do…what they were bred to do. Trying to avoid this is pointless, as a nation we must sell our greatest product...war.”

Radis and Beric circled each other, both were bloodied and bruised...and grinning widely. "Comeon little brother, if you're so tough why don't you beat the shebs out of me like you said you would?" Beric taunted Radis.

Radis smirked and came at Beric, immediately he landed a quick three punches on Beric's jaw. Beric recovered and landed a powerful elbow in his midsection, as Radis doubled over Beric brough up his knee into his sternum and sent him backwards coughing. As Beric approached, hoping to finish the fight, Radis lunged out and speared Beric.

Beric went down and Radis immediately took the high guard position and began dropping heavy fists on Beric. Beric kept his arms up and deflected a fair share of the blows but Radis landed several hard punches on his ribs while Beric was protecting his face. Beric used his superior strength to roll himself and Radis over, Radis broke the guard and rolled out from under Beric.

The two rose up again and looked at one another, circling each other once more. "You look a little tired Beric, you want us to take a break so you can rest." Nedth Dinsan and several Supercommando trainees watched the brawl, there was a murmur of shock and awe at the two brothers. They had spent all day under going the rigorous supercommando training and now to finish off the day they were having a 'friendly' sparring match as Nedth put it.

Beric tilted his neck to the right and a solid crack was heard, he repeated the motion to the left and another crack was heard. The larger brother came at Radis, Radis stepped into Beric’s powerful hook and threw his elbow up perpendicular to Beric’s arm. With his free hand Radis did an open hand palm strike into Beric’s sternum. Beric lost his breath but managed to bring his forehead onto Radis’ nose. Radis stumbled back from the headbutt with blood dripping down his nostrils. Beric continued to cough for a few seconds as Radis came up on him again, this time with a powerful roundhouse kick.

Beric reacted quickly, stepping into the attack and catching the kick. Beric brought a commanding fist into Radis’ jaw but before he could land another blow or throw him to the ground Radis jumped up with his other leg and brought it around to strike Beric. Radis’ heel caught Beric in the temple and it sent both of them down panting and bleeding.

They rose slowly and turned at each other again, both aware that this fight was over. Nedth made sure they knew by stepping between them. “A brilliant show of your training and determination, the final trials are close at hand for both of you.”

Garen walked solemnly across the grass plain, Kevin Rasok was close on his right and both men had their helmets in their arms. The glow from the sun just rising over the horizon was majestic, it warmed Garen’s face but did not force him to squint against its brightness. Garen stopped at the edge of the crater, it was dead center in the middle of the plains here. A giant brown swath cut out of the gorgeous green meadow, in the center of the brown swath was the wreckage of a Xen’Chi cruiser. It was dark and silent now, in contrast to its brightness while unleashing volleys of plasma while it was still a warship. Now it was just another carcass of an enemy of the Mandalorians, they had a lot of these craters. Garen was torn, the feeling of seeing these craters and the Xen’Chi ships in them filled him with pride and joy but at the same time he disliked the scarring it left in the planet.

Kevin seemed to be reading his mind. “The crews are moving as fast as they can, scavenging any raw materials from the crashes before hauling the undesirables into space to be disposed of….we left the bodies where they were.”

“Good…” Garen said simply, the Mandalorians had no memorial services for their dead and usually buried them in mass graves or left them where the fell. After field stripping the corpse of course, the only thing that mattered was their armor. Aruetiise would say that the Mandalorians armor was what made them the fighters they are. They would be incorrect of course, it was the fighter inside the armor that made the armor. Their spirit and soul would move on to the Manda, their armor would be worn by their descendants in remembrance of them.

Garen looked at the mangled skeletons of the Xen’Chi sticking out of the wreckage in random places. If he remembered correctly there were survivors from this crash, they had been eliminated by the original defense force before they were overrun by the mass of landing troops that came in the second and third waves of the assault.

Garen lifted his helmet up over his head and put it on, then he turned around and moved towards the speeder bikes parked a hundred paces away under a tree. Carissa was climbing the tree giggling and laughing as she hung upside down from branches of it. Kevin had his helmet on and walked alongside Garen again as they returned to the speeders.

“Toricha is adapting well to Mandalorian life, the blacksmith said he had some trouble crafting a helmet to fit him.”

“The wookiee will do fine in our culture, he was a pitfighter after all.” Garen commented.

“Your brothers training is nearly complete, their trials are to take place in one month’s time.” Garen nodded as he mounted his bike and Kevin mounted his.

The pair made their way home but Garen’s comm. went off in his ear before he made it home. “Manda’lor, I have returned with news and…a visitor who wishes to speak with you.”

“Good to hear from you Togra, I’ll meet you at the spaceport.” He switched channels with a combination of blinks.

“Kevin, go get Toricha and both of you meet me at the space port. Locklear is waiting for us, as well as an unknown visitor.” Garen diverted his direction and headed to the spaceport, his cape flapping in the wind violently. He looked over the news in his HUD as he traveled, noticing activity around the galaxy actually picking up instead of dying down. The meeting on Nexus between the Jedi and Empire was a cornerstone, he had no official delegates there but the pair of mandalorian Supercommandos there served the job of showing mando interests well enough.

Garen’s speeder pulled into the spaceport, if it could be called such. It was more of a large landing area with a large ring structure around it to store items until later removal. Garen spotted Togra as he approached, his black and gold colors on his Beskar’gam reflecting the mid day’s sun, Garen’s visor automatically compensated for the glare.

Su’cuy burc’ya, tion'cuy? Garen said into their private comm. link as he gestured to the ship setting down Identified as the Hellfire.

“Cadden’s Ad.” Togra responded turning as Garen stepped up next to him. The two watched the ship set down and the ramp descend.

“Did you drop the gear and datapad off with Valery?” Garen asked as Guan walked over to them, obviously recognizing Togra and possibly assuming Garen to be a friend or guide. Leaders of an entire people usually didn’t greet visitors personally, but most leaders weren’t mandos.

“Yes mandalore, as you requested.” Garen nodded and switched to the voice projection on his helmet.

“Blackthorne, what do you want?” The name seemed unfitting to the face he saw, it lacked the hardness of Cadden…still, his eyes were those of a warrior. Togra remained silent, if Guan was expecting him to help him he was wrong. It was rare enough Togra had done this much for him, the kid must have earned his respect, Garen thought to himself.

Guan was unsurprised when he heard the other identify him by his last name. And, while he detected a sense of belittlement in the Mandalorian's question, he was determined to do what he had come here to do. He had come all this way, he was not about to back out just because Mandalorians were not willing to respect him. Yet.

Despite his deductive reasoning, Guan figured he should play it safe. The only Mandalorian he knew here was Togra. And while he had assumed that Togra had brought the Mandalore to him, he could not be entirely certain. "I come here seeking training," he responded. "My father is missing, and I fear that my brother has fallen to the Dark Side. I wish to learn to know how to fight a user of the Force unconventionally. How to obtain the upper hand, and defeat my enemies." He paused only briefly. "I'm told that Mandalorians are among the few that hold such knowledge... and that fewer still surpass their abilities."

What he said was not an attempt at flattery, but rather truth. He learned from his father the resolve of a Mandalorian warrior, and how ruthless and cunning they were capable of being. Guan just hoped he was not making an ill judgement based solely on one man.

OOC: I haven't decided yet whether or not Ryy'Suuk and Neddac are with him, but if they are, I'll keep them onboard the Hellfire for now.

OOC: Either way works for me. And I was in a rush before and just now noticed my post was incomplete. I cut the first half out of it, its since been edited with the remainder. Nothing you need to change though.

IC: Garen was perplexed, he turned to Togra and the hardened warrior merely nodded, acknowledging this was no joke. Garen then looked back at Guan, though turning his head was unneccessary with the wide view his HUD provided. He crossed his arms and looked over Guan, he sized him up as if he was a Xen'Chi warrior about to attack and he had to identify weak points in his armor. It was harder to find weak points on a Jedi, they didn't exactly wear armor.

"What you say is true, we know how to take down force users well though we haven't needed much of the skill lately. The Xen'Chi Chosen were the only recent forcers we've had to take out...so far." Garen considered the request, he could train the Jedi to fight like a Mandalorian. That for sure would throw his brother for a loop, his father on the other hand, already knew how to fight like a Mandalorian and such knowledge wouldn't do Guan any good.

“The kid’s nehutyc, Mandalore. Gotta give em that.” Togra commented over their helmet comm. “Well, either that or really stupid.”

“I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt.” Garen said before he switched back to his voice projector. “We start tomorrow, I hope you brought credits cause we aren’t going to pay your room and board. Meet me at noon at a local pub in Keldabe, lararyc Morut.” Guan looked at him puzzled, obviously he would have no clue as to what it meant or even how to spell it but that was the point. If he had the guts to enter random bars in Keldabe searching for him while mandalorian warriors armored head to toe stared at him then Garen would gain a little more insight into what kind of man he was. The task was trivial but it had a vague purpose, alternately Garen was sure Guan could find him in the force. Garen knew he could disquise his emotions somewhat, he did it in battle often but it was more out of instinct. He’d have to work on not exposing his thoughts and emotions, but maybe it would work. If not, he didn’t really care.

Garen turned to leave as Kevin Rasok and Toricha pulled up in a land speeder. Toricha was wearing armor that made him look even more fearsome and deadly. A mandalorian Wookiee was no joke. Kevin walked up to him and gestured to Guan, “Who’s that.”

“Guan Blackthorne, one of Cadden’s sons, he wants training.” Kevin grunted.

“So you’re gonna train him?” Garen nodded, then opened the comm. channel to Toricha and Togra as well.

“And you all are going to help me.” Togra sighed and Kevin shook his head, Toricha, as usual, did nothing to give away what he thought.

Garen turned around and looked at Guan again, he switched again to his voice projector so Guan could hear him. “I’m Garen Starfall by the way…I knew your father well…Don’t disgrace his name.” Garen turned and walked away, heading back to his speeder. Kevin and Toricha walked up beside Togra.

Kevin spoke to Guan. “The Mandalore hath spoken.” He said sarcastically, trying to relax Guan and assure him they weren’t going to skin him alive.

Despite the frequent times he spent with his father, Guan couldn't help but feel a bit out of place here. Aside from Togra, whom had his own sense of friendliness toward the Jedi he had clearly grown to respect, if at least just a little bit, only the warrior that spoke to Guan remained friendly on the matter. Don't fool yourself, he thought, it's just a test. My father was a Mandalorian, but he was also a Jedi. There is no reason for contempt.

True, he understood that Garen's attitude toward him was one that was not going to give way of high hopes or expectations, but something inside Guan pushed him to prove the Mandalore wrong.

Of course, it was already a fact that he would have to learn their language. The lararyc Morut. He had absolutely no idea what that even meant. But Guan didn't come all this way for nothing. It would be awkward, perhaps even difficult, but he was up to the task. There were bigger things than him that had to be taken care of, and if that meant that he would have to go to every pub in Keldabe looking for Garen, and likely receiving little to no aid from the populace in general, then it was a small price to pay.

He looked at the one that had spoken to him. Fortunately for Garen, Guan had access to a credit account, so paying for room and board would not be a problem. He expected about as much; Guan seldom met a culture that would be kind enough to allow full services free of charge, and those that did often required a price heavier than credits in return.

"I'm a stranger to these parts," he said. "This is my first time to Mandalore. I will need to know where I will be staying." He had a feeling that tomorrow was going to be a long day.

OOC: Yah, think I'll bring them along. I've already too much to deal with, I don't need them to be in the way and complicate things. They'll play a minor role here, so they shouldn't be in the way at all. Matter of fact, now that I think of it, their presence might help Guan out anyway, since Garen ought to know both of them.

Togra switched to his comm with Kevin and Toricha, as to exlude Guan from the conversation. "I live in a small apartment not far from the spaceport, I doubt both of us would be able to live there. We can't exactly let him rent a room in one of the local Inns either, we need to watch him." Kevin sighed.

"He can stay with me, Laura and Venik won't mind. They might even enjoy the company. He can work with me in the smithy or the farm, maybe he's good with a hydrospanner. He'll pay for room and board all right, just not the way he thinks." They closed the comm and Kevin refocused on Guan.

"You can stay with me, you'll sleep, eat, train, and work there." Togra nodded, then turned to Kevin.

"I just remembered, I've got something I'd like you to work on for me." Kevin looked over to him and shrugged.

"Why not, bring it over with the kid. Me and Toricha will meet you at my farm." They turned and walked off to their land speeder.

Togra turned to Guan after he watched them leave. "Come on, get in your ship and I'll show you where to land." Togra embarked on the Hellfire with Guan. The ship lifted off and traveled to the outskirts of Keldabe where Kevin's farm was located. They landed in a small clearing beside the house. The house was small, it looked as though it was made from natural materials, it was only a story high and contained maybe six rooms connected with a large family room.

Fifty meters from the house was a smaller building, inside were fires and anvils and other blacksmith tools. Kevin was no master Blacksmith, but he was good and he enjoyed the repreive it provided from farming. Togra and Guan descended from the ramp, Kevin and Laura Storm walked up to greet them. Kevin had his helmet off, he looked scruffy but warm and comforting, unlike the cold blooded killer people would assume he was.

"You can stay in your ship if you want, or you can stay in the house. We have a storage room with a cot and desk for guests." He said casually, Togra stepped off the ramp onto the soft ground and crossed his arms.

"You can leave your companions on board to watch your ship if you don't trust us, otherwise they are free to roam as they wish. Just don't start any trouble, us Mandos are a bit jumpy at Aruetiise that go poking their head where it doesn't belong." Kevin nodded then followed up Togra's statement.

"I know Garen you said you were going to pay for your stay here. You are, but not in credits. I think it would be better if you worked with me to earn your stay, a little manual labor never killed anyone...okay maybe a couple people. If you work, I feed you and give you a place to stay, if you would prefer to stay on your ship thats fine but you still need to eat." Laura had her hands on her hips and looked slightly agitated.

"Oh, almost forgot." Kevin said smiling and throwing his arm around her. "This is Laura, and this is...where's Ven'ika?" There was a shuffling inside the house and a twelve year old boy walked out, blaster pistol strapped to his hip and small armor plates on him. "There you are, this is Venik. Like I said, you're welcome to stay here as long as you're on Mandalore. I know Garen can be a real Muun sheb, you can come to me if you have any questions or such." He waited for Guan to absorb all this.

Guan nodded. "There is one thing," he responded. "I was wondering... could you teach me your language?" Given the exchange between the Mandalorians, and his inability to comprehend speech through the Force, Guan knew it would be beneficial to learn the language while he was here. He figured Kevin was not going to start with the name of the cantina Guan had to find Garen at, that would be too easy for the Jedi.

__________

Kyr Aden put the finishing touches to his armor. It was a dark blue, with a dark, forest green pattern to it, designed to grant him a level of stealth while on the job. Looking over the helmet, of which included a pair of Jaig eyes, recognized for his bravery and skill during the Xen"Chi War. Many supercommandos, and some shock troopers as well, were given such an honor at the end of the campaign.

Placing the helmet on his head, the Mandalorian warrior left his workshop. Just as he stepped outside, he saw his second-in-command, Jeston Kadil, approach. "Me'bana?" he asked.

Jeston responded, "A visitor has arrived."

"Tion'ad?"

"Cadden's ad."

Kyr did not respond. He knew Blackthorne had two sons, but was skeptical that either would return to Mandalore. They were Jedi, not Mandalorians. Though one of them, Jerik, had proven his mettle in combat. "Kaysh me'copaanir?"

"Hibirar."

Now that was interesting. Kyr nodded in response. "Let us hope he is up to the challenge," he said. It was not his place to second-guess a descendant of Blackthorne's. "Are we ready to depart?"

Jeston nodded. "By your orders."

"Good. Inform Ruusaan we are leaving. They may follow us out, or meet us there." Jeston nodded, and left Kyr to his thoughts. It is no coincidence that Blackthorne's kid is here, but a couple months after his disappearance. However, he had no time for gathering a specific purpose of a visit. The Shadow Warriors and the Black Brigade were running on a tight schedule. They had a contract to fulfill.

"Fine, we will start after your first training session with Garen and Togra. We'll...combine our session since I already had something planned." Kevin smirked and then turned to go inside. "I'll show you where you can bunk." Togra and Toricha left the house on a speeder, headed back into Keldabe.

The room Kevin showed him was a storage room with a cot and various crates placed about. It wasn't small, but it was kind of crowded. "It ain't much, but you'll get a good night's sleep."

Garen was in work overalls, something both rare and astonishing. His hands were dirty and his face covered in sweat. The smell of fertilizer lingered around him, Valery didn't even register the smell. Her time as a medic and nurse had rendered foul smells inert on her senses. The two were both outside, Garen was finishing throwing recently harvested crops into a repulsor cart attatched to his landspeeder. "So oh Great Mandalore, what kind of police force do we have. Since you think we are such a perfect people."

Garen looked at her and smiled. "On Mandalore the victim is the enforcer of the law." She nodded, accepting.

"Fine, but what about Concord Dawn? Or Bandomeer? these worlds aren't filled with fully armed and armored Mandalorian warriors that people would fear. They can have drug rings, terrorist cells, who knows what else." Garen stopped and sighed.

"Cyar'ika Mandalorians are not a police force, they have their own militias to take care of that stuff." SHe put her hands on her hips and stared at him, it evoked such a mix of emotions in Garen he wasn't sure if he wanted to take her to bed or hide in the speeder.

"You're Mandalore, can't you create some elite group of people that can go around stopping major crime rings and such. Most of us were bounty hunters at one point, just use that mentality as a law enforcement force." Garen tilted his head slightly as thoughts ran across his mind.

"A small group of Supercommandos that operate above the law...answerable only to me...that will put so much fear into crime organizations that they dissolve on their own. Such a group would be useful..." Valery smiled and turned, tossing her hair seductively.

"Come on Mandalore..." He walked up behind her and followed her inside. "We need to make Carissa lunch." SHe finished, Garen's sigh was inevitable and loud.

OOC: Huh, I was playing catch-up and remembered about this. Dang it.

What do you want to do in regards? Just pick it right back up, or skip ahead? I'm fine either way, it's your choice, as you're the one doing all the initiative here. :P

And now I need to remember what my Mandos were gonna go do....

OOC: well the battle is coming, so I suggest will simply skip to the final preperations for that since Guan is going to be coming with Garen. I'll post sometime soon, and dont worry about the wait...i couldnt have done much anyway.

Everything felt different today, the scent in the air, the breeze that made his small cape flap in the wind and ran over his face uncovered by his helmet, even the sun’s warmth felt stronger. Garen felt this many times before, it was a sign from the manda, the calling of battle. It stirred his insides, made him yearn for a pistol grip in one hand and the hilt of a beskad in the other. His eyes gazed over the men and women assembled before him in the open plains that had been made into a staging area. About seventy mandalorian supercommandos, all trained and hardened warriors hand selected by Garen himself for the battle. He would lead them, as he had so many times before, he knew almost all their names, and some were close friends and comrades.

Regar walked up next to him, his golden armor gleamed in the bright sun. “Mandalore we are ready, the (The wrecked bucket) Jari’eyc buyca is awaiting the arrival of your force. Then the fleet shall jump to the rendezvous point where we shall meet the Muir strike force.”

“Excellent, Board the Saber now, we shall be there momentarily.” Regar nodded and returned to the AIAT dropship awaiting him just a few meters behind the pair. Once the ship was gone Garen looked over his commandos, clad in their armor and anxious for battle. “My brothers and sisters, battle is upon us again. This time we do not fight for survival, but for glory, credits, power, and position. What we gain in this battle will be vital to protecting Mandalorian assets in the future. Board your vessels now and prepare yourselves for glory!” He turned and put his helmet on as he approached his own Basilisk war droid, the commandos behind him dispersed to their fighters and war droids.

Once he mounted his metallic war beast he felt the engine roar and was instantly reminded of how good it felt to ride several tons of armor and weapons into battle for the single purpose of annihilating an enemy. His droid flew into the air, it moved towards the Xen’Chi cruiser Jari’eyc buyca waiting in the upper atmosphere of Mandalore for its deadly cargo of Mandalorian commandos and their war machines.

As Garen and his troops boarded the ship in their war droids and Star Vipers its engines fired and it began its ascent into space. It joined the First Mandalorian Assault Fleet in orbit over Mandalore, together the fleet cleared the gravity well of the planet and jumped to lightspeed to a rally point only they and the Muir Commonwealth fleet joining them knew.

OOC: This battle will be continued on a different thread.

Re: The Mandalorian Protectors

Post by Cadden »

They are coming for you, a voice whispered in his head, barely audible, but loud enough for him to comprehend every word, every underlying tone. Give in to your fear... there is no escape... not in this life... not in the next....

Guan bolted awake, his hand flying for his lightsaber, and flicked the switch. The blue glow illuminated the sweat dripping down his brow. Nothing. He saw, nor felt, anything unusual about his surroundings. Double-checking, as his Mandalorian training reminded him to, proved his senses were still keen, and Guan heaved a sigh of relief. Disengaging the blade, he took his Jedi cloak and wrapped it around him, and made his way outside his place of residence.

The night air was brisk, but not too cold. A perfect Mandalorian summer night, it seemed. He gazed up at the stars, and wondered what these voices were telling him. This was the third time he had heard them, and the third time they made no sense. "Guan," a voice spoke behind him. He turned to see a Mandalorian, clad in black and yellow-gold armor. Burke Kandosi, he recalled, one of the Black Brigade. He had fought with the blonde-haired, blue-eyed Mandalorian before. A good man, a good warrior. "Me'vaar ti gar?"

Guan took a moment before answering the question. He thought about it, not because he didn't understand the phrase the Mandalorian said, but because he himself was unsure of the answer. Finally, he responded, "Naas." Mandalorians don't typically concern themselves over philosophy, he had come to realize, and reminded himself, much less Jedi philosophy. These voices, these... visions... they would not understand. Not like another Jedi would.

The other Mandalorian approached him, and stood beside him. "Your father is out there," he said in his native tongue. "When Mandalore makes a promise, he keeps it. We will find him."

"It's not my father I am concerned about," Guan responded. Though, that was only partially true. Cadden was typically known to disappear when he went off on his own crusade, but not for this extended period of time. His trail had gone cold back on Udine, and Guan was no expert tracker. He couldn't even find out through the Force where his father had went. It was as though... he didn't wish to be found. "It's my brother."

Burke looked at him. The Mandalorian had never met Jerik, but he did know that Cadden had another son. He didn't say a word in response. "He was acting rather... unusual... in the later times that I had seen him. I fear that he has gone over to the dark side of the Force."

"The Force," Burke responded, a tone of bitterness in his voice. And Guan couldn't blame him. The Force caused the Mandalorians so much trouble over the generations of their existence. Usually, they wound up in the Sith's employ, but Cadden's attempts appeared to be changing that trend. "Is this why you decided to join our ranks?" Guan nodded. "Take note, Jedi, that Mandalorians do not like being used."

"I'm not using you," Guan responded. "I'm learning from you, so I can fulfill a task that, I'm afraid, only I can do."

Burke withheld a laugh. "I thought Jedi were supposed to be humble, boy," he responded. "Or has your order finally wisened up to self-reliance?"

Guan did not take these words kindly, but also knew they were well-intentioned. "I do not wish to kill him, but if it comes to it, I will." Regrettably, he added to himself. "I merely seek these skills in the event that it does come down to bloodshed. But he will listen to me, listen to reason."

"From what I understand from history, Sith seldom listen to reason," Burke argued. "If what you say is true, then -" he was interrupted by his comm. unit sounding off. "Yes?"

"We have an incoming vessel, configuration unknown."

Burke sighed. "Have you informed Mandalore?"

"No sir," the other responded.

"Very well... keep it that way." They didn't need to inform Mandalore unless it was urgent, after all. "Assemble a group of commandos. Instruct the craft to land at the following coordinates." After finishing the instructions, Burke turned to Guan. "If you don't intend to fall asleep any time soon, feel free to accompany me."

Guan nodded. It might do him some good. He followed Burke to the destination he instructed the control tower to relay to the craft, and joined the dozen commandos in the welcoming party. Soon, a strange ship touched down on the surface, a fighter craft by the looks of it. It was painted dark red, with black outlines. An unusual pattern, he thought, yet so familliar....

The canopy opened, and out stepped an all-too-familliar face. So-to-speak. An individual, clad in pitch black armor, blood-red outlinings, with two lightsabers at his side, came out of the cockpit and leapt to the ground. His black-and-red cape flowed in the mild wind as he looked around the welcoming committee.

Guan couldn't believe it, but the Force told him it was true. Burke and the others seemed equally, if not more, taken aback at the sight of the individual, though they held their doubts.

"Mandalore?" Burke asked. The individual reached up and removed his helmet. The face was proof enough for the others, and they lowered their weapons. Cadden Blackthorne, the man they were all out looking for... came to them.

__________

"You have been gone a long time," Garen said to Cadden, in the command center on the world. "We had to move on... I cannot take back my title, just because you came back to us."

"I still have much work to do, old friend," Blackthorne responded. "Work that requires me to spend extended periods of time away from the Mandalorians. I am not here to reclaim the title Mandalore. That's what I was training you for. To carry out my legacy. I just regret that the transferrence of the title was not under better circumstance."

"We have heard of what happened on Onderon. Where have you been?"

"Amassing an army," Cadden said, though he denied himself going beyond that. He looked at Guan, then back at Garen. "Those that attacked Onderon are strong. I've already fought their leader, the one that killed my father." Guan felt himself twinge at the mentioning of the creature known as Sivter, though he suppressed his emotions. "I was not able to kill him, but soon that will change."

"You still seek vengeance, father?" Guan asked.

"I'm not a Jedi," Cadden reminded his son. "I am seeking out alliances," he continued. "There are two large threats about to reveal themselves to this galaxy. Threats that have gone either unnoticed, or uncared for. The first is this Cult of Shadow, those that attacked Onderon."

"And the second?" Burke asked.

"The Sith." There was an uneasy silence in the command post. Finally, Cadden continued. "Those that attacked Taylon recently are of the Sith. Their numbers are strong, and the war against them will be difficult to win."

"What do we know about them?" Guan asked.

Cadden shook his head. "Very little. I have warned Cazzik about the threat, though I do not know if he took any heed of it." Garen stroked his chin. "What I need most, however, are warriors. Mandalorian warriors. If you were to fight, and help defeat, the Sith... then undoubtedly your slate would become clean, and those you seek to win the trust of will find little reason to do otherwise."

"How did you come across this information?" Garen asked, sparing a glance at Guan, who simply shook his head. The young Blackthorne could not sense anything unusal about any of this, which was reason enough for Garen to trust Cadden. For now. A man who disappeared for that long could not have gone unchanged, however.

"I have my ways," Cadden responded, with a slight smirk. "This armor is not just for show." Garen's expression told Cadden it was not enough. "I did my own investigations on the matter. The invasion fleet that attacked Taylon was marked as coming from the direction of Sith space. Needless to say, I uncovered some valuable information on the matter."

"And what of that other Jedi that left with you?" Burke said. "Togra mentioned that you left Onderon with another."

"He is out gathering other allies to the cause," Cadden responded, calmly. "I assure you, the Mandalorians will not be standing alone in this matter. Our forces are growing stronger, but they are still too few in comparison to the Sith's."

There was a moment of silence. "Give me a day to think on it," Garen finally said. "I'm sure you and your son would like to speak." Cadden nodded. "I will have your answer by dusk." WIth that, the Mandalorians took their leave. Only Cadden and Guan remained.

"Father," Guan finally said, "what happened to you? Why didn't you tell anyone of your plans?"

Cadden sighed. "To be honest with you, Guan, I did not want the Jedi to think that I fell to the dark side."

Yes... that's right... feed him the lies.... Rahk'neqah's voice interrupted. Soon, his usefulness will run out... and you will know what to do....

I will not let you claim my own son! Cadden shouted back to the spirit. I will die before I see you harm him!

Rahk'neqah chuckled. In time, my friend. In time.

Guan frowned, as though he had been able to interpret the small exchange. "Is everything all right, father?" he asked.

Cadden nodded, and smiled. "I'm fine," he responded. "Just... tired. I haven't gotten a whole lot of sleep lately, and I think it's catching up on me."

Guan nodded. "Come," he said, "you could use the rest."

Garen did not return home he went to speak to Kevin Rasok and Togra, the two had become trusted advisors.

"What should I do? Cadden is back and requests me to lead us against the Sith..." Garen said rubbing his chin in thought. The trio sat around a circular bar table with their helmets off and placed on the table. The bar was fairly well deserted and the bar keep was wiping down the bar and flipping the stools up on top of the tables.

"The Sith have not made an aggressive act directly towards us..." Togra chipped in.

"Yet, we are on the chopping block just not on the top. They'ed rather not face an army of bes'kar clad vetran warriors before they've weakened their other major enemies." Rasok added.

"Blackthorne said he had an army, but how large? He was gone a single year how could he amass an army big enough to challenge the Sith." Garen said, looking at Kevin.

"Maybe he was very persuasive in finding new allies." Kevin shrugged.

"He gave off an aura...when he asked for our support I felt compelled to say yes almost immediately." Garen said nodding.

"Looking at it from our state's standpoint, the spoils of war will help our economy emensely. The Xen'Chi war brought our military might to new heights. Maybe this war with the Sith will do the same and make us even stronger." Togra said leaning back.

"What of the Jedi's reaction to this? Our outpost on Duxun is so close to the jedi on Onderon they're going to notice the influx of recruits there." Kevin said as he took a cloth and rubbed a dirt spot off of his helmet.

"The Jedi are expereincing a slight power vacumn right now with Daer'Gun stepping down from the Grand Master spot." Togra pointed out.

"That Jedi always had my respect as a warrior, shame he stepped down...and that he isn't Mando." Kevin mumbled.

"The Jedi will not affect the Mandalorians' decision to to war. We are not a comitee and do not need anyone's permission. I think the Empire would be more interested in our sudden arms build up...we'll have to tighten our security to prevent too many information leaks." Garen said.

"Speaking of a build up, whats our current status with the Navy and our ground forces?" Kevin asked.

"I estimate, factoring in that Cadden wasn't joking about his allies, that our forces will be sufficent for a short campaign. We have lessened our war production to focus on things like our economy and agriculture. Rebuilding the scarred Mandalore was quite a task." Togra answered swiftly.

"We did more than rebuild, If we convert our factories to producing war materials we can certainly field a large enough force to divide into two or three assault fleets. The MandalMotors shipyards have been greatly expanded to solve our unemployment issue and now the larger shipyards can be put to good use building up the Navy. Our current force will suffice for a few months, by then we will have both reinforcements and a seccond fleet constructed." Garen said as he ran through calculations in his head.

"That would put a strain on the economy I think." Kevin returned also doing some calculations. "Maybe too much strain, might go into a depression."

"The spoils of our victories will give our economy a surge and increase morale in the home front that will cover our spendings." Garen said, a smile creeping up on him.

"So we all agree?" Togra said picking up his helmet and putting it on.

"We do." Garen said nodding to Kevin which was returned. "I will inform Admiral Regar to prepare the fleet for launch."

The Mandalorian warriors put on their helmets, left the bar tender a considerable sum and left. Garen would tell Blackthorne tomorrow that he has the support of the Mandalorians...

"So, tell me, what happened?" Guan asked. "Why are you raising an army? Why now? And why not ask the Jedi for support?"

"I did ask the Jedi for support. But they turned me down. They told me to go to Onderon, meditate on the issue. Meditate... when my father's killer is still at large." Cadden took a sip of the warm beverage before him. "But more than anything else... meditate, when I'm probably the most capable warrior the Jedi Order had at its disposal."

"Had?" The word caught Guan's attention, and for that Cadden cursed himself for being so careless. "You no longer affiliate yourself with the Jedi, father?"

"They betrayed me, Guan," Cadden retorted, quickly regaining his stature, and making sure that his defenses remained raised. Guan could not know the truth. Not ever. If he did.... "They refused to aid me in my fight. And look at where they are now... you said so yourself, the Jedi have done little to heed my warnings about the Sith. Why should I affiliate myself with cowards or distrustful bigots?"

Guan thought on the statement for a moment. his father had changed, somehow, but he couldn't quite place his finger on it. Something was... different... about him. "What forces did you amass?" he found himself asking.

"Allies, both unlikely and forseen," he replied. "Some Jedi from Taylon joined me in my quest. Several of them died, but the others are helping rallying more to this cause. The unlikely?" He paused for a moment, as though he were deciding whether it was a wise idea to mention this alliance. "A renegade Imperial faction." Guan couldn't help but react to this bit of a news. It was not like his father to ally with Imperials. Not after all that they had put them through. "I know what you're thinking, son... but this is different. These Imperials distance themselves from the rest of the Empire, in any way they can. As a matter of fact, if given the opportunity, they would gladly wage open war against the Empire."

"My enemy's enemy is my friend, right?" Guan said, not sure what to think of this news.

"No," Cadden responded, "my enemy's always my enemy. But we can both get smart and put that aside while we deal with a common threat." Guan couldn't help but grin at Cadden's statement. That part of him hadn't changed.

"So, what do you plan to do if Garen accepts your proposal?" Guan asked.

"I will continue to do what I have been doing. Finding allies, amassing an army with which to defeat the Sith, and the Cult of Shadow."

Dusk had come, and Cadden and Garen, as well as those they chose to bring along with them, met once more in the command center. By the time they had all assembled, Garen was already speaking.

"After consideration," Mandalore said to Cadden, "we see no ill-gain of allying ourselves to your cause, Blackthorne. However, you do understand that we have little more reason to fight for you other than the spoils of war."

Cadden nodded. "Of course. And spoils that belong to you, will go to you, to be sure." He knew the Mandalorians too well. "Make no mistake, in the coming months, you will soon realize that you will have no one else to trust. I guarantee it. This war will not be like the others. Do not be surprised if your enemies make the first move."

After conversing for a time longer, Cadden took his leave. He was escorted by Guan, Ryy'Suuk, and Neddac back to his ship, where they parted ways once more. Once he was cleared of the planet, Cadden heard Rahk'neqah's voice once more. You have done well, the voice complimented him. Better than I had expected.

I know these people, he responded.

Then you know what to do next. Rahk'neqah made it certain that Cadden knew it was not a question. There is no turning back. You must play this through. If you do not, they will suspect, and an alliance merely for the spoils of war will never last you long enough, or be strong enough, for you to win this war.

I only need them long enough to destroy Sivter.

And the Sith?

He dwelled on the Nomad Soul's question for a moment. The Sith are the rest of the damn galaxy's problem, he finally responded. I am not driven by hatred, fear, desire, duty, or any rationale. I can no longer feel any of these. All that remains is vengeance; cold and hard and final. And with those words, the fighter disappeared into hyperspace.

Garen waited until Cadden had not only departed from the room, or even the surrounding area, but the planet before he began discussing the conversation with Togra and Kevin who had also been in on it.

"Did you feel it too?" Garen asked looking at a hologram of the mandalmotors space station where the fleet was undergoing final preps.

"I did, he was so convincing. When he spoke I needed no proof of his words I simply took them as fact and continued." Kevin said.

"I agree, but did you two catch what he said...something about the enemy making the first move." Togra said changing the view of the hologram to one of a group of stars, more specifically the stars in and around Mandalorian space.

"I did, and it troubles me that he said that. We are not ready for a full scale war, the sith making the first move could be.....disastrous." Kevin said solemnly.

"Our military is not ready to deter an invasion fleet appearing over one of our territories other than Mandalore itself, we need to speed up the preparations...we need to be battle ready and mobile within a week." Garen said.

"I find it remarkable how we are all just believing that the Sith truly will strike us first." Togra said looking to the others. "Are we making our choices here? Or are we getting caught up in an ex-leader's charisma, and ex-leader I'd like to add that may have an agenda other than what is in our best interest."

"Of course he does, he is Cadden Blackthorne and he is a Mandalorian he would never do something that did not benefit him in some manner. We must be prepared in case the Sith strike, just the possibility alone is enough for me to worry I am not allowing his influence to make choices for me." Garen stated defensively, he felt attacked by Togra's outburst. That Togra would accuse Garen of simply being Cadden's dog was insulting, even if at one point the two were close friends.

"Very well." That was the closest a Mandalorian got to an apology usually, Garen respected Togra enough that he needed no further addition to it. Simple acceptance of an explanation was enough for Garen.

"Then let's get moving." Kevin said and soon after the trio swung into action, readying the Mandalorian war machine...

Togra stood directly across from the two Mandalorian Supercommandos. None bore any armor or wielded any weapons, they stood inside of a circle drawn in the dirt with a gathering crowd of spectators watching. "Begin." Togra said dropping into the customary mixed martial arts stance Mandalorians took, the Mandalorians greatly encouraged mastering several different forms of martial arts both a strength and weakness. While they could not rival a grandmaster of the martial art they contained an encyclopedia of fighting styles the grandmasters did not...and to Mandalorians there was no 'fair' in battle, it simply was battle.

So Togra was not surprised when both of the supercommandos came at him together instead of one at a time, the three bodies were blurs of motion only a combat trained eye could see. Togra ducked a punch and rolled out of the way of a kick, he stopped in a kneeling position and brought his right arm up in time to block another kick with his forearm. Togra immediately struck the inner thigh of the owner to the leg that attempted to kick him with an open palm strike. The strength of the blow knocked the Mando off balance but Togra could not follow up the attack as he was besieged by the other Mando.

His second opponent landed a fist on Togra's jaw sending him backwards to the dirt floor. He landed on his back and immediately rolled to dodge and elbow strike that instead merely kicked up dirt. Togra used his right leg to kick his opponent in the side, the impact sent the warrior rolling away. The first combatant now approached Togra's prone form, Togra quickly put his hands against the ground above his head and rolled back pushing up and springing his feet under him. He landed on both feet and dodged the first punch with a slight head movement, the supercommando had expected such a move apparently. Togra used his arms to block a ferocious second and third blow, as the warrior came with an upper cut to try and slip past Togra's defenses Togra stepped to the side and spun so he was back to back with his opponent. He reached over his head quickly and seized hold of the man's neck. Togra bent his body, using his lower back as a lever to bring the man off the ground. Finally he pulled with his hands and flipped the man over his head, face down in the dirt, the move took not even a full second.

Suddenly a shin struck Togra in his side and he took an involuntary step away from the blow due to its force. The adrenaline in his veins kept the pain away but he knew he had just broken a rib. Togra managed to turn in time to catch an elbow that landed just above his eye. He backed up to the edge of the circle from the strength of the blow and felt the warm blood running down his face as he dropped back into a ready stance. The remaining mando tried to kick at Togra's wounded side again, Togra braced himself. He took the blow and held the leg against his side. Simultaneously and with blinding speed he stepped forward, placing the foot closest to his enemy behind his only leg still on the ground and sent a powerful forearm strike to the man's throat. The Mando dropped like a ton of duracrete, hitting the ground hard he was too dazed to even offer a defense. Togra looked to both warriors and concluded that the one he had just dropped was too stunned to continue or even flee and the other was flat out unconscious.

"Match over, last man standing claims victory." He turned to the group of spectators, the blood trail that ended at his chin was now dripping onto his fatigues. He ignored it completely. "That is how we fight in hand to hand, the only difference being that if they were truly enemies I would have killed them both. The best defensive posture is an overwhelming offensive attack. If you keep your opponents on their heels they will not be able to strike killing blows on you. Remember this as the most important rule of Mandalorian Brawling, make your enemy fear you. Respect is not enough, if you are in a bar fight pick the biggest opponent there and rip out his throat and I assure you no one will step up to fight you."

Re: The Mandalorian Protectors

Post by Topgun220 »

The sounds of the beast could be heard coming closer, Garen heard it and his heart raced with anticipation. This was his escape, his escape from the politics and duties of being Mandalore. Out here in the great Mandalorian wilderness the only thing that mattered was survival, man versus beast and ageless battle. He took only his two Beskads, swords made of Mandalorian iron Garen's weren't true Beskad's they were longer and thinner, and several vibroblades. He left his armor on his camp an hour's trek from his current location. He now wore camo patterned fatigues with black, green, and brown war paint on his face and a green bandana that caught the sweat from his head and kept it from his eyes.

The Beast approached the small clearing, it was huge... Nearly five meters from tail to head it's tail had several large bone spike on the end specifically designed for one purpose, to kill. It's hide was made of a thick bony material and its long snout contained a mouth with rows of razor like teeth. Fear gripped Garen but that merely drew a grin, hunting was his natural high and fear only pumped adrenaline into his blood to ready him to strike.

The beast moved in towards the bait, a small canock ripped open. When it reached its meal it stopped and sniffed the air, Garen knew it had just picked up his scent. The Mandalorian wasted no time, as jumped from his branch his hands reached over his head to find the two beskads’ grips. He landed on top of the beast, plunging both of his blades downward through the thick hide. It was not a killing blow, the beast violently swerved and threw Garen off its’ back. Unable to maintain his grip on his swords both stayed lodged into the beast as Garen flew some ten feet into a tree.

The impact of his body against the tree shook it from its base to its highest branch. Garen rose, wiping blood from his nose. Silently he stared at the creature as it stared back at him, he saw his reflection in the large predator’s eyes in more ways than one. The beast roared and started towards Garen. Garen yelled back, a bone chilling battle cry, as he pulled free two vibroblades and held them in a reverse grip and sprinted to intercept the animal.

As soon as Garen was close enough the beast whipped around, its tail on a direct course with Garen. Garen sprang into the air, barrel rolling just above the giant bone spikes. He landed low but on his feet, quickly he moved in. He was fast but not fast enough, the animal swung its tail back. It was not as powerful as before but it came fast at Garen. Thankfully the midsection of the tail impacted into Garen’s chest, no bone spikes. Still Garen was sent flying through the air, he skidded to a halt on his back at the other end of the clearing.

He cursed as he rose up again, brushing off the dirt on his fatigues. Garen couldn’t tell if he had broken a rib or if it was simply bruised, his breathing was not affected however so he ignored the injury. The beast grunted as it came at him again. Garen switched his grip on the blade in his left hand and threw the knife into the front right leg of the animal, right where its knee cap was.

The beast roared in pain as it lost its foot and skidded across the ground, its inertia carrying it into Garen. Garen ran at the animal, using its hide as a stepping stool he ran atop the creature and pulled both of his swords free before springing off its back and landing on the opposite side of the clearing. He turned slowly and examined his blades to ensure they were not damaged. The beast used its teeth to pull the blade out from its leg and returned to all fours. It stared down Garen, now aware just how dangerous he was.

It then did something there was no way Garen could have predicted, it rolled up into a ball with its spiked tail jutting out. Garen’s eyes grew wide, it rolled straight at him. He dove to the side, barely missing the tail as it slammed down into the ground where he had just been. It continued to roll until it slammed into a tree, obviously it could not see too well while in that ball formation.

Stunned the creature unfurled and flipped onto its feet, scanning for Garen but failing to find him. Suddenly Garen was falling onto the neck of the beast, only his right hand held a sword. The left held a vibroblade that as soon as he landed on its neck he rammed into its hide. Garen gripped the handle of the knife with all his strength and wrapped his legs around its neck to further steady his position.

The beast flung itself around, rumbling through the jungle it plowed through brush and small trees. Garen was pulling in the sword on his right hand for a killing blow when he just managed to see a low branch out of his peripherals. He had no time to react, only cringe. The impact knocked him back, his knife pulled free and he almost rolled off the beast entirely. He managed to again jam his blade into the beast’s hide, just above the tail.

Garen placed his sword back into the sheath on his back and instead pulled out another vibroblade, he always kept an excessive amount on him in combat. He stabbed the second blade into the hide and pulled himself higher up, removing the first and stabbing it back into the hide higher up he climbed the beast’s back. Once on top of the creature’s back he stood pulling his knives free and lunged for the head. As he came over the top of the head he slammed the closest blade into its skull.

He continued his descent past the head, hitting the ground in a roll. As the large predator crashed into the ground behind him he finished he roll and turned to see the beast flat on the ground, its breathing labored and slow. He walked over solemnly and removed his blade from its skull. He bowed his head in respect for the animal as it passed away, he waited until he was sure the beast was dead until he began skinning the animal. He would use the meat to feed his warriors and the hide would be hung in his household as a trophy, next to some of the Xen’Chi skulls he had collected.

As Garen nursed his wounds and cleaned his weapons back at his camp he picked up his comm. and paged Kevin.

“Manda’lor?” Kevin’s voice seemed tired, the warrior was not used to all the logistics he had to go over to ready a war fleet.

“Kevin give me Ruusaan Kahd’s comm. frequency.” Garen said as he ran a cloth along his sword to wipe away the blood still on it.

“Got a secret project you want worked on?” Kevin said chuckling slightly, Garen cracked a grin.

“You could say that.”

“I sent it to your ‘pad.”

“Thanks Kevin, keep up the good work and take a break will you.”

“I’ll see if I can find time. Ret'urcye mhi Manda’lor.”

“Ret'urcye mhi.” Garen closed the comm., checked his datapad and switched frequencies.

“Ms. Kahd this is Starfall…I have a special mission for you and your team...”

The Hennst farm near Keldabe smelled like blood. Nothing new there.

Galeth hung the last of the carcasses in the iceroom and sat down on the stump outside it, wiping a bit of sweat off his forehead. Those nerfs were heavy; he'd slaughtered four of them, enough meat to last the wife and kids for a few months.

While he was gone. "Val guur'agol." He chuckled. If there was one thing he'd passed on to his sons, that would be it. The Hennst boys could out-eat just about anyone, and the oldest was only barely thirteen. A man, of course, by mando standards, but Galeth hadn't lived mando until he was eighteen, and he still liked to think of his boys as boys.

Sobering, then, that he would have to rely on his oldest just in case. The rest of the adiike weren't growing up fast enough. If the Sith proved capable, Galeth might have to leave the farm, the kids, and his sick wife in the hands of his thirteen-year-old ad'ike.

He wiped down the knife and resheathed it beside the beskad he carried everywhere, even when - like now - he wasn't in armour. The knife itself almost qualified as a sword. Sitting back, he watched the sunset. Probably one of the last he'd see from here for a while. The Vanquish should be ready to go - he'd had the boys working on it for a couple of hours now - and all that remained was to eat dinner. He sniffed, hoping to smell the meal that Sath had prepared, but the blood seemed to hang in the air. He stood and headed across the courtyard for the log house.

"The specifications on this armor... is it possible to work beskar in such a manner?" Garen asked skeptically.

"I know of two people in the entire galaxy that can work it to the specifications, but it can be done."

"A man in such armor... would be..."

"Yes he would, which is why they must be completely loyal and the greatest of warriors."

"The cost to produce the armor is equal to that of capital ship!"

This armor... will make the user invulnerable..."

"We must keep this completely secret, none can know Karric. The Jedi would certainly not approve of this project." Karric nodded to Starfall.

"Only the designers myself and you know of the project. It will take many days to complete a working prototype."

"This could change the face of the galaxy, Karric we will need this armor in the coming war."

"I can not guarantee it will be ready by then, but we will do our best."

"That is enough my friend."

A Week later...

Garen was searching for a reliable commander, the coming war that Cadden had warned him of would leave Garen needing to rely on others to command battles while he commanded his own. Guan was his first choice, a jedi turned mando of the Blackthorne bloodline was a wise choice for a commander. But he had left Mandalore to go to his father, Garen would never request that he stay but the young man would certainly have been useful. Garen then contacted Togra Locklear about the spot, Togra immediately turned him down. "I'm a warrior not a commander, you need someone to lead a charge into a Rancor nest you call me, but if you want someone to coordinate a planet wide battle plan get someone else." Togra was an invaluable warrior, Garen had to agree with his assessment though.

So now he was calling Galeth Hennst, Garen's wife Valery had advised him on a commando with solid combat skills and an above average grasp of strategy, not to mention a long list of combat experience. Garen had summoned Galeth to Garen's farm which coincidentally was not too far from Galeth's own farm.

Hennst pulled his swoop up in front of Galen's farmhouse. He kicked the landing gear down and keyed the shivering engine off. Looking around, he walked up to the front door and knocked. "Mand'alor!" he called.

He'd intended to look his best. For a Mando, that meant full armor, and as always Hennst wore his beskad at his hip. As he waited for the door to open, he took off his helmet and braced it on his left hip.

Garen strode over to the door, his recently cleaned and repainted blue and gold armor shone brightly. His tattered black cape hung behind him, despite the fact that it was quite worn he had no desire to replace it with a new one until it was entirely gone. His helmet was set on the dinner table where he intended to speak to Hennst. Valery had taken Carissa into Kedalbe to buy some new clothes and tools, so Garen had chosen this time to meet Galeth. When he would have no distractions.

Garen opened the door for the Mandalorian he had summoned to his home. "Su cuy'gar vod!" Garen welcomed him into his home. "Come sit with me at the table here and have a drink of ne'tra gal." As Hennst took a seat at the dinning table Garen grabbed two mugs full of the thick and rich black ale. Passing one to Hennst he sat in front of him. "Galeth Hennst I have heard much about you from others, but before I make a choice about anything I'd like you to tell me how you perceive yourself as a warrior and a Mandalorian. Take your time, and make sure you drink plenty of ne'tra gal to stay relaxed I am your host first and your Mand'alor second today."

Hennst felt the corners of his mouth turn up at the traditional greeting. He'd always found it a little bit amusing. He took the mug and the seat, drinking while he thought about his answer.

"How I perceive myself..." Another draught. "The first thing that comes to mind is my children. I do what I do for them. I've regretted a couple of my jobs, sure, but in general, no. I don't know anyone who recognizes the way the galaxy really is quite like Mandos do. We're thrown into deep water right away - and that puts us in the unique position of being the only people who know how to swim. Fighting the Xen'Chi...we did it because we were the ones who could. That's how I want my sons to be: Mandos who can do what needs to be done, and who have a solid definition of necessity."

Garen took a healthy swig of Ne'tra Gal and smiled widely. "Thank you for confirming what my wife told me Hennst." He said simply, Galeth looked slightly confused so Garen continued. "I asked her about your command abilities and battle skills... she told me you were a good man and a great Father. Apparently she knows your wife." Garen nodded and leaned back in the chair taking yet another swig of ale. Suddenly he became very serious, he kept his warm demeanor but his tone dropped.

"Galeth there is another war coming, this one too will be fought out of necessity. I need loyal commanders that I can rely on in the field. I've read you reports and studied your tactics under fire. I think you're the right man for the job, I won't lie you were not my first choice but I assure you there were plenty others I could have chosen. Our conversation does make me certain that you are the right choice. However I will not force this on you, you must accept it. I can not tell you how large a force you will command, who you will fight, or where, but I guarantee you, you will make your sons proud." Garen let the words hang, he could not force Galeth to accept. The choice to command was a personal one, a person didn't accept the position as a commander. You accepted the responsibility of the lives you would command, each death was your own. Garen himself often said he had died thousands of times already, each time one of his warriors died he died... The pain was not for the weak of heart and even the strong and fearless Mandalorians were vulnerable. Command was not a goal but a burden, one only the strongest of men could bear.

Hennst grimaced and downed the rest of the ne'tra gal. "I'll do it, Mand'alor," he said. "Whatever you need done, as long as my family's taken care of if I don't return. And I mean really taken care of. If Manda'yaim is beseiged, they get off with the first. That's my only condition."
