Yeah, I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe there's trouble trying to fix Mir's issue or for some reason there's some difficulty in making the new board? It does seem to be going down a lot lately.

I'm not seeing a new board up yet anyway, so I hope it's just not my browser lying to me.

Anyway, I think what I'm going to do is make a new thread for this mission so we can keep all the REC stuff contained. I'll give it a "Legacy" designation, so whenever the new board does go up, it'll be easy to find which threads to move.

New thread is here: https://www.sw-e.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=12337

But I figure we can keep using this OOC for now.

Feel free to decide how the match between Faye and Kalja ends, Pryde.

Um, Faye will probably do something very unFaye-like and use deception. She's older than Kalja so maybe she might subtly feign that she's getting slower, unable to keep up the way she used to, lure Kalja into a false sense of security then surprise her. Mostly because the rigid Faye of the past would never use deception.

Aaaand, I don't really think I'll be ending the fight or describing it in much detail since I'll be writing from Cadence's perspective and she's not going to be paying much attention to it. Her mind's going to wander. :P

It is pretty nice interweaving working on my book and writing here. I hold myself to such an impossibly high standard that sometimes it takes me an hour just to write one paragraph, or even a sentence. ><

But here I can relax and make all the mistakes I want. :P

Pryde, Mir...

I'm working on filling in the rest of Kalja Sairu's history on the wiki, so I'm reading through old threads to refresh my memories and I came upon this post by Mir about a vision of the future that Akain has in the firstSearch for Kalja thread. Since we're dealing with the future of the Legends timeline now, I thought it was interesting enough to repost:
Akain’s eyes opened and he was sitting in a decently furnished room that looked like it was part of a house or an apartment. He didn’t know where he was, but he looked up and out the window and saw that he was on Onderon. He looked down and realized that he was sitting Indian style on the floor. Then he heard a noise behind him and turned. There was a baby sitting on the floor. From a quick inspection, it looked like the child was close to two years old. He had black hair and brown with gray flecks.

The face was familiar though. He immediately thought that perhaps it was one of Rhyana’s twins, but the child didn’t looking like Rhyana or Derek and there was a distinct lack of silver which he’d come to associate with the Jedi Padawan from Silseris. He watched as the baby played with blocks and his hand moved. It wasn’t under his control. He was a watcher, looking in on a possible future. He couldn’t control himself, this was his future self. His fingers grasped one of the blocks and helped the child stack them. He wasn’t sure what the two year old was making. Suddenly the child looked up at him, eyes wide, a look of surprise on his face.

The door to the room opened, but they couldn’t see who it was. All of a sudden, a woman’s voice called out. “Akain Karna!” Fear crossed the child’s face. Akain felt fear cross his own visage, but he didn’t know why. There was a little bit of noise in the direction that the voice had come and then the voice came again. “Akain Karna, senior!” Suddenly the child smiled a huge smile, revealing two identical dimples on either side of his mouth and four teeth, two up top and two on the bottom. His face lit up and he lifted a finger and pointed at Akain.

The baby…was his? He looked in confusion as a woman came around the corner. His eyes went wide, though his future self had seen it coming apparently. He had risen and taken the child in his arms and placed him in a baby bed. Then he turned to see an older version of Caitlyn DeVries. Akain of right now’s eyes were still wide and his jaw dropped just to help his mind try to understand what he was seeing.

Her brown hair was longer. He realized that he’d never seen her with her hair beyond her shoulders and he had to admit, he liked it more than the way she had it now. His eyes moved down over her face now. It was the same, just a bit older. Perhaps…five, six years? It was then that he realized that the face of the woman he loved was set in a rather angry look, and if the child had been happy when she’d said Akain Karna Senior, that meant it was directed at him.

“Hey, sweetheart.” His older self said.

“You!” She said in anger and he smiled innocently. “Don’t try that, its not going to save you.”

“What happened?”

“I can’t believe I let you talk me into agreeing with Daer’Gunn’s request that I teach that class on Jedi History. Do you have any idea how annoying eight year olds are?” He shook his head, deciding that agreeing with everything she said would save his skin. “One of them tried to put a dead….thing….on my chair today. I swear, I didn’t know they’d give me a class of juvenile delinquents when I signed up for it.”

She lifted a hand and ran it through her hair and Akain’s eyes focused on the two rings on her left hand. One was a white gold band with an Arkanian diamond set in it, and the other was a white gold solid band. An engagement ring and a wedding ring. He looked down at his own left hand ring finger and smiled to himself.

He liked this vision, even if Caitlyn was going to use a Force Bomb on him. Okay, so maybe that wasn’t going to be good, and what heck was a Force Bomb, anyway? Akain looked up in time for Caitlyn to look down and then at the carpet. “You tracked mud into my house.” He looked down at his muddy boots and then back up at her. “Your excuse is?”

“Um…I just got back from something offplanet?” He said and immediately regretted mentioning it. Unfortunately he hadn't been able to think of anything besides the truth, and he never lied to Caitlyn. Her face changed to concern as she headed over to the cradle where Akain Karna Jr. was fussing. She picked up the little boy and settled him in her arms.

“Offplanet? A mission? What happened, why did you need to go?”

“I volunteered.”

“You didn’t tell me.”

“I didn’t want you to worry or anything.” He said, reaching out and tousling the child’s hair. She looked at him and rolled her eyes.

Akain’s eyes opened and he was back in the training room. He didn’t venture a look at Caitlyn. He didn’t even have time to think about what was going on. He just looked at what was now ten remotes. When the hell had two more remotes gotten in on things? He hadn’t even noticed. The vision had been that gripping.

He barely had a moment to breathe before he was under again and he wasn’t able to notice Caitlyn experiencing the vision either.

He had his child sitting on his shoulders, his legs dangling in front of Akain’s chest. He reached a hand up to make sure that his son was secure. Jr. merely grabbed two fistfuls of Akain’s long hair as the two of them moved through the hallways of the Temple. He didn’t know when this was, in respect to whatever he’d seen first. Caitlyn was a few steps in front of him and she lowered down to the ground her arms outstretched, a smile on her face.

A silver haired boy, ran into Caitlyn’s arms as another came running after him. “Aunt Caitlyn.” The child said.

“Look who I found, Akain.” Caitlyn said.

“Where are your parents?” Akain asked.

“Mother and Father are out on the grounds waiting for you.” The other boy said. “Come on, Uncle Akain.” The two brought the three over to where Rhyana and Derek were waiting. They were sitting on a blanket out under a tree with a cooler. Derek rose when they came. Rhyana was attempting to bottle a feed a little girl. It looked like they’d had another child.

“Akain, Caitlyn. How’s the little one?”

“As well behaved as a child of Akain’s can be.” Caitlyn responded while Akain Jr just grinned showing off to anyone who cared the fact that he was teething. Akain swung the baby down off of his shoulders and onto the blanket next to his mother who took a firm grip on his hand, wise to her son’s love of wandering off and driving his parents’ crazy. Derek smiled and grabbed two beers. He handed one to Akain. They took a few steps away from the rest of the group.

“Have you told your wife yet?” Akain shook his head slowly.

“I…don’t know how. I know she wouldn’t like me being involved with something like Ok’rimos.”

“You know what he’s done to people. Hauc has to be stopped. I spoke to Isaac and he’s spoken with-“

“It’s not that simple, Derek. Isaac’s married, but he doesn’t have a family to think about. I still can’t believe that Rhyana agreed to it.”

“It took some convincing, I’m not going to lie.”

“I agree with what you all are trying to do, I was there for that meeting. But that doesn’t mean I can just sacrifice everything for that. You know the trouble I had to go through to get those two rings on Caitlyn’s finger. I’m not going to jeopardize her life for-“

“You know that Hauc helped Lyli and trained her. That woman damn near killed Caitlyn.”

“Hauc knows what’s going to happen if he threatens my wife or my son. I doubt that he wants that big of a problem in his life. I’ll talk to her, Derek. I don’t know if she’ll go for it, but I’ll talk to her.” He sighed. “You’re talking about a fight that could rival the old wars with the Sith, back when they were powerful and controlled systems. You’re talking about something bigger than that damn Darksider war with Trayus and the Sith.”

“You were behind this a few months ago, what happened?”

“Akain Jr. got lost. Like really lost. Caitlyn and I couldn’t find him and for a moment I feared that Hauc had sent people to kill him or kidnap him. I can’t drag the two of them into this, Derek.”

“Caitlyn will help us if you explain things to her.”

“Odds are she might volunteer to take the fight to them. Look, you have the blessing of having two kids who could take on half the Jedi Order without batting an eyelash even if they’re just tapping into their raw potential. They’re only five. No dark sider is going to send anyone to try to hurt them.” He looked at his son, playing with Derek and Rhyana’s daughter. “I want to be around to watch my son grow up, Derek. I want to be there for him like my parents weren’t able to be there for me.”

“You’re taking the fight to the people who robbed you of your parents.”

“Master Leidias would say that you’re talking about revenge.” Even years after he’d stopped being her padawan, had been knighted, and had helped cement the fact that she was a Jedi Master, Akain still used the honorific. Derek smiled.

“Yes, I know where Kalja stands on the issue. I would have gone to her, but I know what she’d say.”

“Exactly. Ok’rimos is a good thing. Being proactive against dark siders never hurt anybody in my mind. But the people who are a part of it risk a lot, and I’m not sure if I can fully consider myself someone who could do that.”

Derek was about to say more, but Akain was whisked out of the vision and back into the real world.

Just had to go and make things worse by giving him something to feel jealous over. He's probably a bit older than Cadence, maybe fifteen? I dunno. I figure he's probably top of the class, but he's got his mother's arrogance. He's good, and he knows it. Which is probably why he doesn't have a master yet? That part I kind of added in just before finishing the post. Just had to rub salt in the wound like the asshole that I am.

I feel kinda bad about that last remark about Cadence, though. I was pretty harsh on her, poor girl. ><

As harsh as Cassian was, he messed up big time by saying all of that in front of his father. You don't treat a guest like that, especially one staying in Sigarr's house. It's like touching the thermostat - it's just not done.

That boy is in a heap of trouble. :oldrazz:

Anyway, I got his name added to the Halomek family tree. I'll leave it to you to take care of his wiki entry.

In his defense, their roles were reversed back when Cadence thought she was going to be hot shit. She kind of deserves it.

He'd point out to his father she was just as bad to him. Except the difference is he actually has the talent to back it up whereas she doesn't. He might also add something about her lack of respect for the Order which she flaunts by wearing street clothes instead of Jedi robes. A bit ironic since Faye never wore the Jedi robes either. >.>

Totally should have had a Salmurian sneak on board with them.

But also, that vision is interesting, because Akain def kept a lot of that personality despite the years.

When he started out, he was using stun batons and Kalja had to convince him to carry a lightsaber. He definitely didn't want to fight people back then. Now he still doesn't want to fight people it's more of a well if we gotta, I'm just not the one that's going to lose so act accordingly.

Also, unrelated, 2007-2008 was almost 20 years ago.

I've already had a few too many "you're old now" moments to affect me much anymore. Learning the LotR trilogy was over 20 twenty years old... that one really stung.

Also, if you wanted to sneak a Salmurian onto the Windfall it's probably not too late. Kalja Falanis doesn't have her mother's all-seeing eye in the Force and it's a safe bet Cadence wouldn't notice either.

Minor spoilers: the ship is going to get an overhaul courtesy of Mav and REC, so she could be the first one to find the Anuran hiding onboard.

Well, I originally introduced Sasha in case there was a Tosh spinoff. But there's a good chance I'm doing that one alone since you guys have a clear plan on what you're looking to do. So idk maybe.

Mav is a fellow racer so maybe she can make a cameo in your thread as a rival depending on what you want to do in it.

I actually planned for her to be a racer before you posted that background for Tosh, so that was a fun coincidence.

My idea was basically Tosh finally linking up with the Night's Watch on Caitlyn and learn how deep that rabbit hole goes. And he was going to have to learn some shit.

So much more of the "Akain" side of things that the Akaitlyn duo would or could teach their kids.

All part of Akain trying to figure out more about the Spear and how people look alike.

This would be a good time for a Joker gif. "Do I look like a guy with a plan?"

I do actually have an idea, though. It involves convincing Cadence to sing at the party. Her performance is going to rock Cassian's world. He's going to realize the talentless hack he mockingly calls the prodigy actually is.

Full disclosure, you gave me this idea way back when Kalja heard Cadence sing the first time. She does a very specific thing when she sings on a scale only one other person has managed to achieve and she's doing it without realizing it and without any proper training. Faye's going to point it out and Cassian's not going to take it well.

Color corrected per your suggestions, Pryde. I tried to cover up the fact that his other hand was gloveless by going with black for the hands.

Those lightsabers in the back though... they're like the Doug Dimmadome of lightsabers. They always go offscreen no matter how far away it is, lol.

If you want, I can try some renders on my side of things. Just give me the keywords.

I was hoping to have more to post, but nothing was coming.

S'ok, we can move on. I think that's a good way to end the scene.

One of the hardest things to remember about writing third-person close or first-person is that I can only describe things the character sees. I only mention it cause I was literally about to describe Mav and Kalja sharing a look, then realized Cadi's not even looking at them so she wouldn't see it. ><

The idea that I had that I couldn't do—because you know, third-person close—was that when Kalja says, "Cadi no, you don't—" Mav actually stops her with a hand on her shoulder before chiming in with, "I made you something." But Cadi wasn't looking at them, so I couldn't do it.

I was debating whether it would be Mav saying I made you something or Kalja saying Mav made you something, but then decided on Mav because of what Kalja said about patience. >.>

I figure Mav would probably be the first to remember Cadi saying she writes music when she's upset, so even though she looks okay... *Shrug*
