Hunting down a Family

Post by Topgun220 »

There was a silence as Garen finished slapping his leg armor on and strapping it into place. He stood up straight and looked at Valery in the doorway of the shed, the cool breeze toying with her long black hair. Garen held his neutral face of determination, she couldn't dissuade him from this. He needed to do this for closure, and hopefully to reclaim what was left of his family.

She didn't try to dissuade him though, instead she surprised him. "Carissa and I will be waiting for you Manda'lor. Take care of yourself." Garen grabbed his helmet and his carbine. He walked over to her in the doorway and looked at her, he took in every line, every curve of her face and committed it to memory.

She kissed him lightly on the cheek. "Ni kar'tayli gar darasuum. " He said just slightly more audible than a whisper. She smiled at him.

"Ni kar'tayli gar darasuum manda'lor. " He returned her smile and put his helmet on. She moved to the side to allow him through the doorway and he moved through, not daring to look back and risk changing his mind. He took his speeder bike all the way to the spaceport in Keldabe where he found his newly purchased ship from Mandalmotors, a Sathas Freighter. He requested the addition of advanced sensors and comm equipment so it could act as a command ship for fighters. It was the Carasuum, or the Eternity in basic and it was his ship. There was a particular Mandalorian leaning on his ship, Garen recognized the red and gold armor. It was Kevin Rasok, they fought together in the battle of Bandomeer. Rasok was wounded in that battle, though it didn't keep him out of the final battle.

"Su'cuy manda'lor." Kevin said as Garen approached.

"Did she send you?" Garen simply said stopping before the warrior.

"She did." Garen rolled his eyes though the gesture was unseen behind his visor.

"This is a personal matter."

"I'm not letting another Mandalore disappear on personal business." Kevin's tone was now determined. Garen was not going to change his mind, besides he might need a hand.

"Alright then let's go." Garen walked into the freighter with Kevin in tow. He sat down in the co-pilot's chair without a word. Garen sent out his prepared messages to Kyr Aden, Jesik Regar, and Nedth Dinsan to take charge of Mandalorian assets in his absence. He also included his reasons for departing in the message, he felt they should know.

As the Eternity lifted off the ground and headed out into space Kevin took his helmet off. Garen did likewise, Kevin had brown eyes and short black brown hair. A long scar ran its course from below his left ear down to his chin, it was only a year old at the most. Meaning he received it during the war with the Xennies. Garen had quite a collection of scars from that, and he was sure Kevin had more than just the visible one.

"So where to?" Kevin asked waiting to punch in the coordinates.

"Commenor." Garen said simply. Rasok didn't ask why or anything, he just put the coordinates in and by the time they cleared the gravity shadow they left the system.

As the stars stretched and their journey to Commenor began Kevin checked calculations, engine systems, weapons, and all the other stuff packed into the freighter and Garen pulled out his datapad. Garen rechecked the info he had gotten earlier. His brothers had departed with Ranni Koral for Commenor, he kept trying to dig deeper but he would have to download what the commenoran database had on them first.

“I understand this is personal Starfall but I’d be more useful if I knew what we were walking into.”

Garen weighed the pros and cons of telling Kevin about his brothers, in the end he figured there wasn’t anything to lose by doing such. “We’re looking for my brothers, they were taken to Commenor by a ‘guardian’ when we were little. Haven’t seen them since.”

“You have any leads?”

“Just the name of the guardian, Ranni Koral.”

“We’ll find them.” Kevin said simply before going back into the cabin to sleep. “Call me if you need me Manda’lor.”

“Garen, Kevin, call me Garen.” Garen called after Rasok.

“Right, if you need me Garen…” Garen nodded as Kevin went into the cabin and the barracks.

Garen decided to sleep in the pilot’s chair, he drifted off with thoughts of his brothers swirling around his head.

Commenor…

Footsteps rang out down the alley as the young man ran towards the corner of the alleyway. His right hand clutched his left arm which was scorched black from a blaster shot. He ran right around the corner and unfortunately right into the chest of someone.

He was knocked back to the ground on his rear. His head was in severe pain, it was like he ran into a brick wall. He looked up slowly and saw the cause of this, it was another bounty hunter…this one raised his blaster and stunned the injured man.

“Good work Rad’ika, worked like a charm.” The bounty hunter called out to his comrade walking from where the fugitive had come from originally.

“I’m getting sick of these petty contracts Beric. You think Ranni would have wanted us to be pursuing these pointless contracts on this scum.” Said the smaller and younger of the bounty hunters to his comrade.

“Udesi ner’vod, Riggor guaranteed me better contracts now that we proved ourselves.”

“Things were easier in the 501st, the empire would just say ‘do this, kill that’ ya know sometimes I miss those days.”

“Don’t be ridiculous Radis, we make more in a month as hunters than we did in a yearly salary in the corps.”

“Still, I do miss the guys.” Beric threw the neutralized fugitive over his shoulder and walked side by side with his brother towards a waiting speeder at the end of the alley.

“Yeah I do miss them too, we can always send them messages you know.”

“Oh yeah sure, ‘hey guys how ya doin! We’re here living the dream while you’re out there fighting an alien invasion force! With love, R&B.’”

“You’re right, I bet the guys we knew are all gone by now anyway.” Beric tossed the body into the trunk of the speeder, he locked him in shackles around his feet and hands before closing the trunk.

“Let’s go get paid, then we can hit up Deni’s Den.” Radis jumped into the passenger side of the speeder, putting his blaster rifle in the back.

“Sounds like a plan.” Beric said getting into the driver seat and taking off.

Chapter 1: Without a Trace

Post by Topgun220 »

“So where should we start looking for the info?” Kevin asked Garen as they walked through the spaceport, passerby’s made sure to give the two armored warriors a wide berth. The exploits of Mandalorians in battle against the Xen’Chi were far ranging and of course exaggerated. However that’s how they liked it, Mandos liked to be feared.

“There should be a terminal up here.” Gaen said as he took a sharp right and Kevin followed as if he anticipated the move. Garen had already downloaded a map of the spaceport to his helmet and he saw where he could find a holonet terminal.

Garen approached the terminal, a pair of middle aged men were using it. Garen was going to wait but one of the men saw the Mandalorians approaching and tapped his friend’s shoulder nodding to Garen and Kevin coming their way. Needless to say the two men quickly departed leaving the holonet terminal for Garen and Kevin to use.

Garen accessed the terminal, the first thing he saw was the imminent meeting at Nexus Station. The Jedi and the Empire were meeting, Garen made a mental note to contact the Jedi Order about that proposition he made through Togra Locklear. He didn’t like the idea of the Jedi and the Empire making some sort of alliance, both groups had nearly wiped out the Mandalorians. If that was possible, which it wasn’t, because, as he often reminded himself, being a Mandalorian was an Ideal, not a species…it was a way of life.

He passed by the galactic news and opened a search engine, he input Ranni Koral’s name. He found nothing, not even a registered ID. The man was a ghost, Garen felt annoyed now. He actually had to dig up the information himself somehow.

“Nothing on him in the database.” Garen said to Kevin, they used their helmet comms. They had no desire to share their conversations with Aruetiise.

“Maybe we should try some…unofficial sources.” Garen stood straighter, unofficial sources were unreliable but he didn’t have much else to go on.

“You know any on Commenor?”

“Actually I do, I used to work here when I was a hunter. I’ll get in touch with my contact and see if he can set us up with a local crime lord willing to spill us some info about a particular individual.”

“Sounds good, while we wait for it to get set up we should get some living accommodations. I don’t feel like sleeping on our ship and we might need a staging point in the city.”

“I sent him the message, we should get a response in a few hours. I’m right behind you boss.” Garen nodded, closing the holonet terminal down and walked towards the exit. He downloaded a map of the city while he was searching for info on the terminal, so he pulled it up in his helmet now and looked at it. First the two rented a speeder from a dealership close to the spaceport.

They drove into the city and took up residence in a hotel not far away from a street filled with cantinas, casinos, and clubs. The most likely place to find scum dwellers that could lead to more information on almost anything they needed. After Garen and Kevin finished getting all their gear stowed away, mostly weapons newly purchased from local dealers, Kevin received word from his contact. The two were going to meet with Riggor Radiz, a big time crime lord of the city underworld.

“I think we should go with the shock and awe affect. Maybe we can scare this scum into giving us the info without firing a shot.” Garen said as the strapped on their gear.

“I agree, people don’t exactly talk to fully armed and armored Mandalorians like they would to a pair of guys asking for information.” Garen smiled as he put his helmet on again and they left the building. Garen took his EE-3 carbine and his two DL-22 blasters as well as the two Beskads sheathed across his back. Kevin took a pair of Mandalorian auto-blasters which were automatic blaster pistols designed by Mandaltech. Aside from them he carried a Srraka blade on his right leg he took from the dead grip of a Xen’Chi commander.

Garen and Kevin arrived at the Cantina Kevin had indicated not long after departure. Garen walked in first, the wind toyed with his cape as he strode inside briskly. The doorman didn’t say a word, the look on his face was priceless. Garen walked up to the bartender, he immediately respected the large human. He bore scars on his face and exposed arms and he showed no fear for the Mandalorians as they approached.

“We don’t want any trouble around here.” The barkeep said giving Garen a stern look and reaching under the bar to what Garen knew was a hidden blaster or scattergun.

“Keep that scattergun under the table and we won’t have any.” Garen kept his visor aimed directly at the Barkeep’s face but he really was looking around the cantina at its various patrons. When he noticed the bartender’s arm rise up and rest on top of the bar he spoke again. “We’re here to meet Riggor.” The Bartender nodded.

“Go through the VIP section, try not to disturb too many people on your way through.” Garen turned and walked to the door the keeper pointed to. Patrons continued to watch in complete silence and the volume did not return until Garen had walked into the VIP lounge.

A pair of Twi’lek girls lay on the chest of some drunken enforcer who was barely able to point to the door to Riggor’s hideout. Garen opened that door and found himself at gunpoint from a pair of guards who must have known he was coming. Must have been the bartender, he thought to himself as he walked inside the room.

It was fairly large, about fifteen meters in width and length and a five meter high ceiling. It was dark, cloudy, and various colored lights dimly pierced the darkness. There was a desk at the back of the room and several tables to Garen’s right and left with dozens of guards of various species sitting there watching him and Kevin.

Garen walked up to the desk, behind which sat a middle aged man with short black hair spiked up into the air who was well built and looked a little too young to be a crime boss. “Riggor I assume?” Garen said not even acknowledging the ‘kid’ and instead looking at his various bodyguards sizing them up. He figured if he had too both he and Kevin could possibly take the guards, if he shot out the lights first and relied on his vision enhancements in his helmet. Then he could pick them off from the cover of darkness and-

“You assume correctly, though I suggest you do not do so again.” His thoughts were cast aside as the young kid spoke to Garen like he had him right where he wanted. Garen stifled a laugh.

“I want information on a certain individual, Ranni Koral.” Riggor took a long drag on a smoke and blew it into the air with a deluded sense of confidence. He had absolutely no idea who he was talking to.

“You Mandalorians think you can just demand information? I’m not afraid of you.” He wasn’t, whether it was because of overconfidence or stupidity Garen didn’t know and didn’t care to.

“We’re willing to pay for the information.” He said, still without leaking the least bit of emotion into his words.

“I don’t want your credits, I want your services…I’ve heard how good your kind is at killing…I’ve got a lot of killing to do.” Garen opened a secure line to Kevin so they could talk in private.

“Can we not just threaten to kill the brat if he doesn’t give us what we want?” He heard Kevin saying as Garen was going over in his head what could happed if he did such.

“No, we might actually have to kill him. He obviously knows something about Koral, if we have to do some dirty work to get it then it looks like we’re getting dirty.”

“And I just cleaned my armor too.” Garen closed the channel and reactivated his helmet speakers.

“Fine.” Garen simply said. Riggor smiled, it was a broad grin filled with youthful stupidity and joy in getting a new toy to play with.

“I have your contact info, go home and I will send you your first mission tomorrow.” Garen and Kevin turned and left the room and then the cantina. Neither of the two mandos were happy about doing Riggor’s dirty work but killing a few thugs that a crime boss considered mortal enemies was easy compared to fighting the savage warriors of the Xen’Chi. They spent the night in their hotel checking weapons and cleaning their armor.

Chapter 2 Rigged

Post by Topgun220 »

“Oh boy, our first mission.” Kevin said, the statement reeked of sarcasm. Garen walked over to his comrade across the room. Kevin handed him the datapad and Garen looked it over.

“You know the place?” Garen asked putting the datapad down and beginning to strap his armor on again.

“Yeah, I’ll drive us there. How you want to do this?”

“Well it’s a free entry arena, I’ll enter.”

“Riggor says the games are Rigged, besides no blasters. How are you going to kill him with his bodyguards all around him?”

“That’s where you come in, I want you to wear civilian clothes and sneak up on this Doriic while I cause some serious havoc.”

“Already so I kill Doriic while you make a nice distraction. I wonder what the reaction will be to a Mandalorian arena fighter.”

“I guess we’ll find out.” Garen left all his weapons in the apartment, taking only his two Beskads (swords made from Mandalorian Iron) and a vibroblade. Kevin drove over, parking far away and walking in far ahead of Garen so as not to arouse suspicion the two were together.

Kevin had to push and shove his way into the club, without his armor he felt kind of naked and exposed. Not to mention he lost the fear factor wearing the armor provided. Garen simply walked up to the door and the doorman had no trouble getting him through the crowd. People actually cheered as he walked inside, they knew he was here to fight.

Garen was taken to a desk where a twi’lek male sat behind typing information into a datapad. He didn’t look up. “Name?” The Twi’lek asked. Garen waited a moment for the alien to look up at his face, when he did, he finally responded.

“No thanks, just get me a fight…a challenging one.” The Twi’lek nodded and then Garen was lead to a ready room. His helmet gave him a warning signal, it had filtered out a nerve agent in the air. Apparently it was rare, slow acting, and scentless. So that was how Doriic rigged his games, somehow Garen expected a few more surprises.

Meanwhile Kevin had made his way into the crowd. He saw a group of bodyguards escorting a quarrian by the betting tables. Kevin walked over, careful not to get too close. Doriic was a quarrian, it seemed like he was this quarrian beside him now.

“Betting or just standing over here?” The lady behind the table asked. Kevin looked at her and fished some credits from his pockets.

“Ten thousand on the Mandalorian.” Her eyebrows rose curiously as he gave her the credchips. Garen would not be happy if he lost that money, of course if he did lose the money Garen would be dead.

“Interesting bet my friend.” Doriic said next to him. “Do you know of the Mandalorians?”

Kevin put on his most sincere smile for this exceptional piece of scum. “Just rumors, but most times they end up being true.”

“Betting on rumors is risky you know.”

“I feel lucky tonight.” Doriic nodded.

“I hope you get lucky friend.” Doriic turned and left, the bodyguards staying close to him. One bodyguard stared suspiciously at Kevin as he left, it was a very large and fearsome Trandoshan. Kevin hoped he would get to kill the lizard, he didn’t like the way the reptile was looking at him. As the group sat down at the north end of the arena Kevin slowly moved over to them. The thermal detonator he had stashed away found its way into the palm of Kevin’s hand and a vibroblade found its way into his other hand. He kept both of his hands behind his back as the announcer’s voice boomed into the arena and the combatants from the last fight left the arena, one leaving a trail of blood as he was dragged away.

Garen stepped into the arena, looking down at the mutilated corpse of a Human fighter. Huge gash marks were on his chest and blood flowed out from the wounds. Garen looked up to his opponent circling the arena as the Announcer spoke.

“Now here’s a real treat! Our great champion Toricha the savage faces a fully armored Mandalorian warrior! This will certainly be worth your money folks!” Oh, you’re all going to get your money’s worth now, don’t worry about that.

Garen approached the wookiee, large with brown fur slightly tinted red growling and roaring some profanity or another in their strange language. Probably about how he intended to rip off Garen’s arms and beat him to death with them. Garen smiled widely to himself, since no one else could see it.

He took out his two Beskads, the blades were exceptionally light being made from Mandalorian Iron. The two large blades the Wookiee took out were certainly not light. Garen remembered fighting a Xen’Chi chosen with blades of similar size and make, beings that used such heavy weapons had to be very experienced with them or they would not be able to use them effectively. The large furry create walked towards Garen, there was a loud slam behind him as a metal grate was shut solidly.

The wookiee swung down hard, Garen sidestepped the attack and moved in closer to the beast. The wookiee, surprised by this seemingly stupid move, dropped his blades and grabbed Garen by the throat. Garen was lifted off the ground, he dropped his swords, more for dramatic effect than out of pain, and he kicked his feet as if struggling.

As the wookiee roared and grunted Garen was thankful his helmet filtered out the smell of his breath. After a few moments Garen decided it was long enough and he stop struggling. The wookiee looked at him for less than a second as Garen brought a powerful backhand from an armored glove into his face. The wookiee released his grip and Garen dropped gracefully to the ground dropping to a knee and grabbing his two Beskads. As the wookiee turned back, fueled by rage, he lunged forward with his blade.

The sword went deep into Toricha, the wookiee then lunged forward at Garen himself. This Garen did not expect, sheer rage and willpower resulted in the massive wookiee simply shrugging off the near fatal wound to any other being. Garen was impressed, until the wookiee grabbed his arms and literally threw him across the arena barely missing long durasteel prongs protruding from the arena walls.

Garen rose to watch the wookiee pull the blade from its chest and toss it aside roaring in anger. The crowd cheered like scavengers watching a predator rip into its prey, waiting for scraps. Garen although impressed by the wookiee’s resilience was not scared, on the contrary he was excited to have a competitive fight.

Toricha ran at him, picking up one of his large swords as he came. Garen took two steps and broke into almost a full sprint, the wookiee swung madly at Garen. However, Toricha had underestimated how fast Garen was. The armor he wore wasn’t slowing him down much also being made of Beskar like his two swords. Before the blade was even close to cutting into Garen he lowered his shoulder and tackled the furry being.

As they rolled they separated from each other and Toricha lost his grip on his blade. Garen rose much more quickly than his opponent, as Toricha was getting up a pair of boots slammed into the side of his face. The wookiee rolled and this time rose to his feet with surprising speed, Garen couldn’t attempt such an attack again. Instead the wookiee ran at Garen in an attempt to rush him. Garen’s reactions were sharper than a vibroblade however, he rolled onto his back and jutted out his leg. Toricha felt the foot stick into his stomach and he fell into the reversal. He was thrown over Garen’s body and landed several feet away.

Garen continued to roll backwards, he ended up on his feet next to one of his beskads. He grabbed the weapon and ran over to Toricha, he slid the blade under the neck of the wookiee but stopped. The wookiee went to grab the blade but Garen pressed the metal against the Wookiee’s neck and he understood not to try anything. Garen looked up into the crowd, he scanned it and found Doriic. The quarrian stood and activated a microphone to address the entire arena.
“Kill him, or I kill you.” Garen’s helmet continued to stare at Doriic, Garen however was not looking at him. He was looking at the guards around him, taking threat assessments. The trandoshan would be tough, the rest were scum…but there was lots of scum.

“Do it yourself.” Garen said standing up straight and pulling his blade away. Doriic simply nodded and his guards made their way to the arena. The Trandoshan hung back, Garen noted.

Garen walked over and picked up his other Beskad and twirled both blades in his hands. The roar of the crowd was immense, Garen was enjoying putting on a show for them. He decided to give them an even better show, he drove his blades into the ground and they stuck there. He stepped forward, cracking his knuckles and neck as the group of around ten bodyguards closed in on him in a circle.

“Who’s first?” Doriic laughed and Garen pulled out a concussion grenade from his equipment belt.

“Shoot him.” Doriic said, just as Garen anticipated. He armed the grenade and dropped it on the ground. He increased the sound dampeners in his helmet to maximum. He would be deafened but he would not be stunned as the others would be.

Garen rolled to his feet and was already upon the closest thug. He grabbed the guard’s arm holding his blaster and smashed the weapon from his hand by a strong open hand strike that shattered his forearm. Aiming the weapon for the guard with Garen’s own finger in the trigger guard he gunned down the remaining thugs with uncanny accuracy. As the last one dropped Garen quieted his hostage in a sift motion that snapped his neck.

Garen turned to face the awestruck Doriic and he could also spot the tinge of fear in the trandoshan even as he jumped down to face Garen. As the lizard slowly drew his pistol Garen readied his mini-grenade launcher on his gauntlet, he shoved an explosive round into the tube and closed it before aiming it at the Trando.

The trandoshan cast aside his blaster as if that was his intention all along. Garen approached the reptile as it approached him, Garen was focused and knew exactly what his plan was and had already worked out on the fly adjustments for different scenarios.

The trandoshan swung a powerful yet controlled fist at Garen’s head. Garen ducked to a crouch and threw his body weight behind a solid straight right punch that impacted on the gut of the Trandoshan.

The green scaled alien brought his nee up and caught Garen under his chin, sending him backwards tumbling. After a single roll Garen recovered and by simply tapping his fingers in his palm in a preprogrammed sequence both of the vibroblades in his gauntlets switched out. The trandoshan either couldn’t stop his momentum or didn’t see the blades. Regardless Garen took one step forward at the charging reptile and drove the two blades into his chest. He then rolled back, using his opponent’s own weight and momentum to throw him over Garen’s head and off his blades.

Wounded the Trandoshan got up a little more slowly and grabbed one of Garen’s Beskads. The bodyguard threw the sword at Garen with surprising accuracy, the Mandalorian could not move out of the way fully before it cut across his upper right arm. Blood dripped down the wound but Garen ignored it entirely, he was already moving in for the kill. The Trandoshan was on one nee with the other extended out. Garen stepped onto his nee and jumped towards the Trandoshan’s opposite side, as he went across his body Garen drove his right blade into his enemy’s exposed neck.

The trandoshan slammed a powerful fist into Garen’s chest which threw him backwards reeling in chest pain from a broken rib. However, the trandoshan clutched his throat for a few fleeting moments as its life slipped away in vain.

As Garen looked up to Doriic, the surprise he saw on his face was priceless, matched only by the surprise on his face when he noticed Kevin roll the thermal detonator under him. Somehow the criminal jumped out of the stands and into the arena. The explosion tossed chairs and a few bystanders into disarray. No innocents were killed, a few were a little banged up. Kevin immediately left, stopping by the betting desk and grabbing a handful of credits worth at least fifty thousand.

“Hey!” The man behind the table yelled reaching for a blaster. Kevin punched him in the face, his powerful fist sent the man tumbling backwards stunned and bleeding.

Kevin got outside and ran to his speeder, he knew his job.

Garen got up and brushed the dust off of his shoulder pads. He looked at Doriic on the ground struggling to rise to his feet. The Quarrian was having a hard time breathing, Garen enjoyed how Doriic’s tentacles flailed about in fright as he scrambled backwards on his hands and feet trying to flee the approaching Mandalorian.

“Why are you doing this!” The boss demanded. Garen leveled the blaster at the Alien’s head and fired. He turned around, tossing the weapon aside, and ran towards the exit. He heard an unexpected roar behind him, it was Toricha. The wookiee was trying to ask him something Garen guessed.

“You want to come with me?” Toricha nodded and Garen shrugged. “Fine.” They made it outside and Kevin paid no attention to Toricha as he got into the speeder with Garen. The wookiee roared again and Kevin glanced at Garen. Garen noticed and looked back.

“Yes?”

“Can you understand him?” Kevin asked looking back at the road and where he was flying.

“No.”

“Well he just swore a life debt to you.” Garen slowly turned to face Toricha.

“He’d make a good mandalorian.” Kevin couldn’t help but grin.

“So would you.” Kevin knew Garen was smiling behind that mask. They were back at their apartment after taking a complicated route that doubled back on itself to throw off pursuers.

Chapter 3 Pub Problems

Post by Topgun220 »

“Hey sweetheart.” There was a loud crack as the waitress’s hand slapped Radis’ face.

“You don’t call for three weeks and now you show up expecting me to just take you back!”

“Baby I was busy with work and all.”

“And your other three girlfriends.” Beric commented quietly so no one could hear. He took another sip of his drink to further mask his statement.

“You would lie to my face!” There was a series of smacks as she battered him. Radis retreated and walked back to the bar with Beric. Once in his seat he turned to Beric who passed him his mug of ale.

“You’re a horrible liar.” Beric commented as he took another sip of his ale. The cantina was rather quiet except for the small episode with Radis and his ex-girlfriend.

“Yeah well it used to work.” Radis took the cold mug and pressed it against his cheek for a second to ease the sting, then he took a sip from the mug.

“You say the same thing over and over again and of course she won’t believe you.” Just as Radis turned to rebuke the cantina doors opened and Radis spotted a very attractive woman in clothes reminiscent of a Corellian smuggler.

Beric raised an eyebrow at his brother in an apparent loss of words. He turned around to see just what he was looking at. He too spotted the woman but broke his gaze after only a few seconds. She sat down at the bar several seats away from the two.

“Thanks for the tip vod, I think I’ll go use your advice.” Beric shook his head in mild disappointment. As Radis rose up to walk over to the recent arrival four commenor security officers strolled in. The group walked over and stopped in a semi circle around the woman. Radis paused but then continued to walk over.

“Don’t do it Radis, don’t get involved over another woman.”

“Something isn’t right here.” Beric knew he was right, something was certainly not right. The cops body language suggested they were not taking the girl in under suspicion of some crime, but for entirely different reasons.

Radis walked through the officers and sat right next to the girl, the cops were thoroughly shocked. “Are these uniformed scum giving you trouble sweetheart?” The girl didn’t bother to look at him.

“…I can handle myself.” She said softly. “Get lost hotshot, before you get caught in the middle of something you can’t talk your way out of.” Beric shook his head as Radis’ jaw dropped to the ground.

“Come on Radis, she wants to get killed let her.” Beric called over to his brother, Radis got up and walked out of the group. One of the security peronell had the bright idea of cracking a joke at him.

“That’s right, run back to your boyfriend.” Radis froze and Beric rolled his eyes.

“Here we go again.” Radis turned around walked up to the security officer and looked him dead in the eyes.

“You want to say that again?” The girl got up finally and walked over to Radis, she put a hand on his chest.

“You really can’t take a hint can you.” Radis was unsure what to do. “Get lost tough guy, these guys aren’t real officers, they’ll kill you for pissing them off.”

The officer grabbed her arm and pressed the barrel of a blaster to her head. “Saying things like that can get you locked up you schutta.”

Radis punched the officer in the face, knocking him cold to the floor. The others stared in total shock and awe at their fallen comrade and Radis. “Kill em!” One of them shouted, Beric reached for his own blaster and fired a shot into the chest of one cop aiming his weapon at Radis.

Even before the second officer hit the floor Radis tackled a third into a table behind him, crashing through it on his way to the ground. The only two officers still standing opened fire on Beric who fell backwards trying to get up from his stool. He hit the ground hard and was surprised when the girl pulled out a small holdout blaster and gunned down another of the officers while she ran for cover behind a table.

Beric fired from his position on the ground, killing the last standing guard. Beric got to his feet but before he could even holster his weapon the officer Radis had originally punched out tackled Beric. Radis was pounding on the officer, his fists caught the officer’s jaw again and again. The battered officer managed to grab a bottle of ale and smash it over the head of Radis before he could kill him.

Beric threw the cop on him into a table stand to his side. The officer grunted in pain from the impact, Beric quickly got up and a sharply kicked him in the face to really knock him out cold.

Radis rolled off the officer slightly disoriented, before he could recover the officer got up to shoot Radis on the ground. There was a whine of a blaster. Beric turned and saw the officer aiming his weapon at Radis simply standing there frozen. He spotted the girl’s holdout blaster pointed at the officer’s back…smoking. The cop collapsed and Radis got up and dusted himself off.

“You Di’kut! We just killed a squad of cops!” Beric screamed at him.

“They were gonna kill her!”

“They were just gonna take her in!”

“Uh guys.” The girl tried to interject but the brothers were far to involved in argument to hear her.

“You don’t know anything Beric! You sat back there and watched just like you always do!”

“WHAT! I saved you, you ungrateful brat!”

“Yeah only when I was about to die did you back me up.”

“Guys really now.”

“I don’t go rushing headlong into situations that serve us NO PURPOSE! Just cause you think she is going to sleep with you you want to defend her against the POLICE!”

“Shut up Beric you don’t know me!”

“Yeah I’m only your BROTHER!”

“GUYS!” She finally yelled.

“What!” They turned on her and asked at the same time, she subdued laughter.

“Not that I want to interrupt your testosterone fueled screaming match but although they were crooked cops they were still cops…Which means more are coming to come and kill you.” There was a pause as the two brothers forget about their argument and remembered that they were still in a life or death situation.

“Speeder.” Beric said and Radis nodded.

“Lets go!” Radis said grabbing the girl’s arm and running outside. Beric ran after them, tossing a considerable amount of credits to the barkeep.

Radis was in first and quickly fired up the speeder, by the time the girl and Beric were in he shot off into the streets. They quickly made it to their hideout, stashing their car in a garage so it would not be spotted. After doing a hit on someone connected to the government the two brothers came to this hideout often, it was owned by a friend of theirs in name only and its shabby exterior hid the wealth of weapons, armor, and equipment inside.

Radis and Beric had the girl take a seat on the comforter in the holonet room. They stood in front of her about to interrogate her.

“Who are you?” Beric asked. “Why are you running from the cops?”

“I am Laura Storm, I’m an expert slicer and I happen to uncover some very incriminating files about the good police chief. He’s working with several local crime bosses and taking bribes. I’ve got enough stuff that if I went to the press or a higher up, he’d be put away for life.”

“Great, the whole police force is going to come at us.” Radis said. Beric rolled his eyes.

“Police? No, I’m afraid of the hit men they are going to send. Riggor was probably paying the chief, as well as a bunch of other crime bosses. They are going to want to keep the chief in power.”

“So…we’re dead?”

“We are not dead…not yet.”
