The Xavier Institute for Higher Learning. OOC:
I've decided to have a go at a new character, and I'm accepting anyone who wishes to make a "teacher" or a "student" for the Xavier Insitute. If you wish to join in, let me know here.
I need to know your characters name, powers, level of effiency with said powers, and where I can locate your character at to recruit them to the school.
I think I need at least 5 different teachers.
and as many students as we can throw in. I want to make it feel as much like a school, as it is a training for mutants.
And of course, you have to be a mutant to teach or be a student of the school, it is the only qualification that must be met. Mutants from the weakest, to the strongest are welcome.
And you are Encouraged to develop your character in the thread, so starting out with very little knowledge of your powers and what they do is also encouraged.
Uniqueness is also encouraged, I don't want all the character to be copy characters of the original X-Mansion.
Thread can be found here

I suppose a little more information about this might be helpful.
I'm wanting to restart the X mansion with the hopes of building a new X-men team. But at first I want to work on character development of all the characters, so I can decide who should lead the X-Men.
Sooner or later I'll end up rebuilding a LOT of what the Xmansion had. Including the fighter, and Cerebro. But for now, Jarlan is more or less concerned with helping mutants to control their powers, and help them fit in with the rest of mankind.

Hey, here is my character.
Character name: Zachariah Garner
Eye Colour: Blue-grey
Hair Colour: Jet black, long, with a jelled spike look to them.
Sex: Male
Age: 16
Mutant Ability: Able to generate Electricity in his body. He can shock people with it, but only when touching them, and only enough to knock them out. He can also power machinery, but he needs to be touching it. He can control it, so he can touch people without adverse effects.
Background: Zack was born to Amelia and William Garner, in the city of Vancouver, where he has lived all his life. He grew up fairly normally, went to school at five, and lived a pretty normal life until age ten. At that point, his power manifested itself, after touching a computer in school. The sudden shock burnt out the computer and Zack was forced into an unconsciousness state. However, he woke up a few minutes later. His parents were upset at the whole ordeal, and sent him to a hospital. It was found that he had mutant abilities. However his parents were not pleased with the idea, and strove to keep him as “normal” as possible. They began to home school him, and kept him indoors as much as possible. After about 6 years of this, his power began to appear more and more often. Although he had learned to control it, he wanted to know more. After a bit of searching, he found a school that was for mutants like himself. His parents, naturally, were against the idea, but he managed to convince them that his powers needed to be used, not ignored. So, at the age of 16, he left for Xander’s school.

The semester is over for me and now I've got some time to write. I've been ITCHING to do some mutant role playing. I have a few characters I want to get back into action, but I especially want to start developing my original hero character here - the Element. Would you fellas like another student?
I sort of see this bio giving off the wrong impression as far as HOW I'm going to be roleplaying him, so I figured I'd also post a sample bit on the thread. If you guys don't like it, I'm cool with making another character or changing this one to fit in. If you're interested, I also had thought up a brief story-line that involved a guy who sees the future attempting to find and kill Damien because he believes that in 30 years he'll become a tyrant. Just a fleeting thought.
His origin thread is here
And the first place I posted with him is here
Name: Damien Jackson
Alias: The Element
Bio: Damien is an unnatural being - a creation of science originally designed to be an adaptable "super-serum" for giving government volunteers any power desired. He is an experiment gone wrong. Damien has no family - he doesn't even have a belly button. He is a reserved young man, very much so an introvert, and though deep inside him there is a unfathomable power, Damien is a good soul.
Age: 15
Height: 5'7
Weight: 130lbs
Hair: Medium length to jaw-line, curly, dark brown/black
Eyes: Dark brown
Build: Slender, lean muscle
Home: Phoenix Arizona
Clothing: Black pants and form-fitting long sleeve shirt. On top of that, Damien wears a thin hooded sweatshirt with a navy blue jacket that has zippers on the sleeves. Finally, a pair of black leather driving gloves.
Costume: Not yet determined
Weapons: A metal baton about 20 inches in length.
Abilities: Molecular manipulation and absorption. The ultimate extent of his powers - in theory - is that he can control the physical properties of matter. Inside him is the very essence of mutation, meaning that he can potentially change any object he touches - which includes giving & removing powers from organic beings.
Drawbacks: His power is extremely unstable, and very difficult to control. It would take a lifetime to understand it. Without being able to use it correctly, Damien is completely defenseless. But upon learning bits and pieces, Damien risks endangering himself and others. As far as he knows, his power is simply to make soft things hard, and hard things soft. Also, his power is very much dependent on physical contact, which makes him a melee fighter.... and unfortunately he has no combat skills or enhanced physical prowess.

Is there a "Brotherhood" involved lately?
I read through the thread and thought it would be cool to be discovered, or even rescued - particularly from another mutant. Either way, I think it's more fun and probably in this case more likely to be found by a member of the school. Unfortunately I don't think word would get across to Prescott, Arizona of the school.

Good news - I've got a friend who is gonna join the thread. She is going to play a student, 15 years old as well. I'll have Damien spend a little more time in Prescott cause that's where she is going to be.
How do the mutants typically discover that this institute is designed for them while keeping it a secret to humans?

typically Jarlan sees something about them in a paper, or something... or even through spies he has here and there... and he goes to investigate, or sends Alessandra to investigate them... Then they are given a full scholarship to the school, if they are mutants. If they are not, then they keep searching... Jarlan has spent years looking into mutants, and watching for new mutants to arise... He pretty much for now, does it all through those means...
Sometime in the future he will have a cerebro made, and use it... sparingly at first, then more as time goes on to find them..

Ah, okay, right on. I can see how this would work. A new character on their way is definitely an option, but I also imagine that Damien has left a significant paper trail.
He saved a guy in an accident by pulling him out of the car before it exploded. Then he accidentally froze a scientist's muscles by shaking his hand. Then he ran away from his foster parents by hitching a ride with a trucker heading north of Phoenix.
I think it's pretty probable that some one would take notice of him. Finding him might be difficult, cause now he's laying low.

Name: Kiley Riloh Jensen
Alias: Affinity
Bio: Kiley is the only daughter of Mark and Elizabeth Jensen, the owners of the Jensen Family Diner. She works part-time as a waitress and spends the rest of her time trying to find ways to get out of Prescott. She discovered her ability to influence others when she accidentally put several customers to sleep while handing them their menus. The first victim she assumed to be a narcoleptic, but after the third or fourth she realized that there must be something else going on. Though Kiley is a good-hearted person, her strong desire to leave Prescott has sometimes caused her to make unethical decisions (such as using her powers to make customers leave larger tips, or convincing her parents to let her borrow their car). However, unable to resist her conscience, she usually ends up giving the extra money she makes to Prescott's many homeless people.
Age: 15
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 105lbs
Hair: Medium length, medium brown
Eyes: Green
Build: Average
Home: Prescott, Arizona (hopefully not for much longer)
Clothing: Band t-shirt over long sleeved thermal. Jeans. Slip-on sneakers.
Abilities: Gains a physiological connection with any person she touches, giving her the ability to heal them, read their mind, and understand their power. She can also control their physical state of being, such as putting them to sleep or making them unhealthy.
Drawbacks: She must be within a few inches of the person, or touching an object that they are also touching, creating a circuit.

While I have absolutely no problem with people doing things with SHIELD, just next time send me a PM or something to tell me about it before you start writing it.
I figured you just didn't know that I was RPing SHIELD, and like I said, there's no problem with you doing it, I like your idea.
If you want, in addition to the red tape that would have been involved, you could say that SHIELD didn't have the funding to continue the project, since the way I've written SHIELD is that after the war with the Chrell, SHIELD was strapped for cash.

Ah! Yeah, sorry, I was away for quite a while. And Xan - though I've strayed from mentioning shield here, it's a definitive piece of Damien's past in the other threads and on Wiki.
My original post with this character was in July of 2007, when there wasn't a shield thread going on. He's an old character, but I figured by removing my equally old shield character, Dr. Wraxter, I could effectively update the story and cut any ties I had with shield.
I wasn't planning on doing any shield rping personally, I was actually eliminating that possibility (I typically don't like chasing myself), but I was definitely thinking about looking up who was doing shield these days to ask them about it. Now that you're here, might as well, right? It would be kind of cool to have an organization or two after him for his abilities while he's still weak, that way the school could be his protector.
I'll go ahead and update the Wiki too, and mention the lack of funding. That's a good idea.

Yeah, I didn't have a thread at that point, I was just setting everything up in my head, though I think I had claimed Nick Fury and SHIELD with him.
The school he's going to already has a SHIELD presence in the form of a sleeper agent.

Since WoH SHIELD is drastically different than the Marvel SHIELD of either the normal or Ultimate continuity, odds are that they would just recreate the experiment now that they have funding, find a weakness and exploit it in Damien's case.

We could say that the lead scientist of the original experiment was the main brains behind the operation, and with him dead and his research long washed away, that it's not possible again? Otherwise they could potentially create an army of elements, I imagine
I vaguely remember hearing that Cap America was the only successful test with the super serum, and that they couldn't recreate it after that. I was always kinda confused about that idea - was that true in the Marvel universe?

It's a possibility. Obviously I'm not going to do it without getting the okay from you first, though.
Basically, this SHIELD is much more anti-super, regardless if they're hero or villain. They'd be for a registration act, but a global one, since this one isn't strictly part of the US or the UN, but rather semi-autonomous global organization.
They want to be able to control the supers to ensure that things like the Chrell Invasion don't happen again, or someone like Dr. Doom or Iron Man is able to amass as much power and influence as they did.
Sort of a Homo Sapien version of Magneto's ideals.
While they do have supers working for them, many know of how the organization operates and are okay with it, or are under false impressions.

As far as I'm concerned, you already have the okay from me! I like an unpredictable environment, especially when it means dealing with the decisions of others. Reading and reacting to other people's posts has always been the exciting part for me.
However, I will admit that I feel like this concept for shield would be problematic. I don't know if we're gonna be portraying the governments as super accurate, but if that was a goal of ours then there would be all kinds of cloning laws and human rights laws and whatnot that would try to prevent shield from sanctioning such an experiment - even in Marvel, I imagine. This version of SHIELD, as a global organization, doesn't have to answer to any specific country's laws and thus their methods are free of jurisdiction, but even with that freedom, breaking those laws seems more like the action of a criminal organization, know what I mean?
So basically, I'm cool with it. And I can see how this concept would be much more acceptable for this type of SHIELD, cause from you say it sounds a little more on the antagonistic side from the hero perspective, sort of "civil war"-esque. But I do think that doing something like this would tip the neutral scale more in the "bad guy" direction. Kind of like Pinehurst in heroes, or something - yah know, like doing bad things with good intentions. Am I making sense?

Yes, you're making that sense, and that's exactly what I was going for when I made it.
Eventually, with a changing of the guard, SHIELD is going to slowly go to what the Marvel version is, but for now, its this way.
Think of it as formed out of the thought that perhaps the world is in danger often by villains because of the very fact that they have powers and that the Chrell came because of the heroes. Same way that Galactus comes because Earth has so much life energy. So in a sense this SHIELD is blaming the supers and using supers to fight/control the entire super population.

Notorius, when your characters get there.. do you want them to be put in the same 101 class?... or what, your choice...
and as far as class schedules go, we can all decide what class they have with who and when... ((feel free to make up a professor character for a certain class))
Anyway... PG17, Zachariah can be in Xander's 101 class.
