OOC: Shadows of the Human Mind
This is an OOC thread for my spiral worlds thread, The Shadows of the Human Mind. This thread is alittle X-men, alittle Island of Dr. Moreau, alittle secret agent stuff, a little supernatural, and just a lot of other stuff all mixed up. That probably doesn't explain it too much, eh?
Well, I don't want to say too much, as it kinda wrecks the reveal, so go read it, then we'll talk.
Here.
Read it yet? Gooed.
Oh, and if you're a mod, could you please fix this typo? Post three, the seventh paragraph down or so there's this little phrase:
-"Visiting hours are over, Miss." A very deep baritone voice spoke, sounding a combination of . The last word Ezekiel heard before the doorway closed was "Zek!"-
if you could just change it to:
"Visiting hours are over, Miss." A very deep baritone voice spoke. The last word Ezekiel heard before the doorway closed was "Zek!"
That would be appreciated. Now, on to business.
I'm on a recruiting call for people interested in joining. I have a couple of roles I should like to fill. I will be somewhat vague in the description here, so if you're interested at all, get with me over messenger and we'll flesh out the details.
1. Ezekiel's partner (Female agent)
This is the most specific role I would like to fill. Ezekiel's partner from the organization their from. May or may not have been captured, that's still open to debate.
2. helping agents
If one were so inclined, one could be an helpful agent sent to investigate Ezekiel and partner's disappearance.
3. Sympathetic prisoners
Friends Ezekiel might make in the soon to be introduced prison. Likely to be other experiments of the good doctor's.
4. Sympathetic (or not) antagonists
Either Obsidian Sword members or fellow doctors and scientists who may or may not be helpful to the agents.
That's basically it. I may post more information here regarding the organization that Zek came from and all that soon... But in the meantime, if you have any questions, you can get with me over messenger, or post 'em here.
Thanks for the interest and all that.

Coo coo... Alright, I guess I'll just post information on the organization here for you both to read at your leisure. You're welcome to take creative license for whatever, though if you have any big ideas, I do ask that you run it by me.
The specific setting, by the way, is modern day with a twist, obviously. A darker and more supernatural modern day.
Shadow Watch Combine
The Shadow Watch Combine's original inception traces back to the 1970's, when genetic experimentation was slowly becoming more common. It began in England as a simple advocacy group by a rich philantrophist named Jacob McConnel. McConnel had a strong scientific interest, and as such kept a very close watch on scientific community news. Originally, Shadow Watch was called People's Choice, and had no other function then to advocate ethical science.
People's Choice was remarkably ineffective, despite McConnel's best intentions, and he began to realize that a stronger hand would be needed to make a difference. He saw a real danger growing in public science labs, but even worse in private ones. There was experimentation happening that he thought to be dangerous, reckless, and completely inethical. And the world seemed to becoming a more and more accepting place for these types. Not because people endorsed them more, but because the legal systems of the world were slowly becoming more ineffectual at dealing with corruption.
In 1986, Jacob McConnel met with an American named Royce Courier at a science convention in Washington DC. Courier was a scientist and business man with a strong knowledge of the paranormal. The two men were fast friends and spent almost the entire conference talking at a nearby cafe. McConnel spoke of his growing concern about the unethical science work that had been conducted for the last twenty years, while Courier spoke about his growing concern of the increasing number of paranormal activity over the last years. The governments of the world were unprepared to deal with the situations that were arising. They both agreed that an organization was needed that could act outside of the law, yet would not be shunned by the governments. An incognito vigilantee force, as it were.
Royce Courier had been the leader of a small group called that had simply called themselves the Watch. Their primary function had been to hunt down and deal with paranormal entities that had been becoming reoccuring. While very few of these entities ever were seen by the public eye, the Watch ensured that they did not cause damage or undue panic.
By the end of their talk, the two men agreed that their organizations should be joined to form the Shadow Watch Combine. Their mission statement was simple: to investigate possible paranormal activities and/or unethical scientific work. Courier Industries, a world wide construction firm, was to be their store front, and also provided a surplus of income.
By 1995, they had secured over 150 trusted members and had agreements with the governments of the United States, England, Germany, Japan, Spain, and Canada. People who are recruited into Shadow Watch usually undergo a fake death so that they can drop cleanly out of society. This is done mostly for security, which is upheld to the highest degree possible. Only very trusted members are allowed to live a double life still in public society.
They operated as a mercenary special force, mostly. If a government got wind of something happening within their borders that they could not deal with discreetly, they would contact Shadow Watch. They also did their own investigatory work, however, tracking down missing biological, chemical or nuclear missiles, shutting down labs and factories that made any of those, and even were involved in the occasional drug bust. Ultimately, they were beneficial to all, but outside of any government's laws. They were a secret, a rumor that never made the evening news and was never mentioned at a UN meeting.
Organization and equipment:
There are three seperate bases world wide. The main complex is a small island off of the Bahamas. There is also another base in western Germany and another small base in southern Japan.
Each base as a slightly different command structure based on the installation's needs and objectives.
The basic structure is somewhat militaristic, which most find convienant, as much of the Combine's staff as some sort of military background. It is as follows:
Silhouette
Commander
Overseer
Observer
Warden
(Shadow) Watcher
Silhouette:
Silhouette is the codename referring to either Jacob McConnel and/or Royce Courier. While they do not make a great attempt of keeping their public lives a secret to members of the Shadow Watch, it is still considered inaproperiate to refer to them by name unnecessarily. This is mainly a security precaution, as an accidental slip of their identities to the wrong people could make them the target of numerous assassinations.
Though both nearing sixty, Jacob McConnel and Royce Courier are both very active with the Shadow Watch Combine. Both of them have busy public lives as well, however, and as such do not spead as much time as they would like overseeing direct operations. However, they are both still the leaders of the Combine, and are the ones who make the majority of the high level choices.
Commander:
Each base has a Commander. The Commander is responsible for the entire operation of the base as well as the all of the deployments of agents assigned to that base. Basically they just ensure that the base as everything it needs to continue running smoothly.
The base commanders are:
Japan: Suki Maeko
Bahamas: Darren Welsh
Germany: Kyle McQuade
Overseers:
Overseers are in charge of a specific division of the base, such as research, operations, air wing, etc. They do just what their name implies: oversee the things under their command. Like most positions of authority in the Shadow Watch, Overseers have rather unspecific duties, giving them the flexibility to do what they need and delegate whatever else.
Observers:
Observers are typically noncombatants such as maintenance specialists, scientists and researchers. They might include people who special in paranormal knowledge as well. Most of the Observer's work is around the base, like the Overseer and the Commander, but Observers do occasionally go on operations when their particular expertise is needed and as such are usually kept to the Shadow Watcher's physical standards.
Wardens:
Wardens function as a kind of sergeant for the Shadow Watchers. They themselves are highly trained, even more so then the Shadow Watchers are. Typically a Warden sees after a single operative team, which is comprised of about ten Shadow Watchers (though not every Watcher necessarily goes on every operations). Between seeing after the needs of those under him and continuing the required training, Wardens have notoriously busy schedules. Wardens will occasionally go on missions with their operatives, but typically do not.
Shadow Watcher Operatives (Class I - IV):
Shadow Watchers are hand picked from various special forces and civilian groups with great care. They are generally selected for a specific skill that they possess to a high degree, but the Combine looks for well rounded people that can handle themselves in a variety of situations. As they deal with paranormal situations on occasion, they work hard to track down people with unusual abilities, be it telepathy or telekinetics or just knowledge of things not of this world.
Class IV are newly recruited Watchers, while Class I's are akin to squad leaders.
Equipmentwise, the Shadow Watch Combine is well equipment with a wide and large arsenal. They work hard to procure any sort of firearm an agent desires. Through deals with governments and donations, they have acquired quite a collection of military gear, including a heavily modified airwing.
Well, if you read all that without getting bored, you're doing good. Vague, get a hold of me next time you're online, and we'll work out the deals of the partnership. Topgun, do I have you on my messenger thingie?
