Shaina ran through the halls, passing through anything that was in her way, and finally found her room. She immediately passed through the door, and saw the back of someones head.

"Hi! I'm Shaina, I guess I'm your roomy." She said as she headed for her bed.

Sariah was so caught up in reading about Mystique that when she heard the voice it didnt' occur to her that the door hadn't opened. She turned around and saw the second most different looking person she had seen. The first being herself in the mirror.

Shaina turned and looked at Sariah dead in the eyes, as Sariah looked up and down Shaina. Both girls slightly gasped at the differences of each other. Shaina through her backpack down on her bed and walked over to Sariah.

"Ahh... I see now."

"You see what?" Sariah asked looking the girl over as she started to walk around her. Sariah backed into the desk to keep the girl in her sight, but it didn't stop Shaina, who walked around her anyway, walking through the desk.

"I see why the professor changed my room. He wanted me to meet you." Shaina smiled and put out her hand. "I'm Shaina Rayne, it's a pleasure to meet you.

Sariah reluctantly put out her hand and took Shaina's. "So, you walk through things?"

"Yeah, ever since I was 12 and my sister mutated. Guess it troubled me so much that my sister was a mutant, that it triggered my mutation, and I started walking in my sleep. Which creeped out my parents when I'd walk through one wall, and then through the other. They basically kicked us both out, and we made our way through the streets."

"That's dreadfull." Sariah then told Shaina her story and the girls sat down and talked for quite some time.

She had been feeling a little wicked tonight and so she’d splurged. Instead of lo mein, she’d gotten shrimp lo men. Alessandra held one of the little shrimpies in the clutches of her chopsticks and satisfied her hunger. The woman smiled happily as she continued to eat. Alessandra had more than just that, she had the General Tsao’s chicken with the pork friend rice, two egg rolls and a quart of Wonton soup. One of the other women sitting at the table looked at her with pure envy in her eyes. Alessandra didn’t need to be a potent telepath to understand that, no sir. Yes, yes, they all wanted to know how she did it, but she’d never give her secret away.

Alessandra looked at the clock on the wall. It was two in the morning and they were nowhere near done. They had just finished working out what they were going to do about the jurors for the case. That had taken an incredibly amount of time and it was understandable considering how important juror selection was. Alessandra had given her thoughts on the matter more than once and there had been a few arguments and a few Latin phrases tossed between the enemy lines. In the end, no blood had been shed and everything had worked out for the best.

Now they had to get to work on how they were going to present their evidence.

The firm that Alessandra worked for was both defense and prosecution. In this case, they were prosecution. They represented a man by the name of Lincoln Maxwell. His claim was against a large local company and was regarding his disability pay which the company had cut out from underneath him. It was a great deal of money considering how he had been injured on the job and he needed it. Furthermore, they were accusing him of harassment. They were claiming that after they pulled his disability pay, he made threatening phone calls to various people in the company who had clout and rank.

There was evidence that he had made phone calls, repeatedly, but he was saying that he hadn’t made any threats of any sort. There were no logs of the calls, so there was no way of either side being able to prove that he had said what he had said. With the exception of that, Alessandra felt that they had a strong case and that they had a good chance of winning. They had figured out which jurors they wanted, they’d have to see how the other side messed up their plans in that regard. Both sides knew that the fight was going to be for the jurors.

The case itself could go either way, depending on the jurors. The company was within its right, as the way that Lincoln had suffered his accident had been technical. There were various qualifications to what had happened and whether or not he was eligible. There were also loopholes in the company’s policy that gave it to him regardless. Still, if they exploited those loopholes, it was possible that new policy would be written. It was in these times that Alessandra considered why she was behind the stockholder theory.

If you didn’t think of things the way that the stakeholder theory suggested, you could hurt a lot of people. The way the company had behaved, in addition to angering one employee, they had angered probably a great number of their employees. They had lost a great deal of the trust that the employees had in the company’s leadership and had done same with the general public in addition to angering some of them.

Instead, if they had considered all the options and the outcomes of those options, paying Lincoln Maxwell his money was probably cheaper than what they were going through right now.

It was the stupidity of people that kept the lawyer side of Alessandra in Prada and Armani.

The chauffeur left Kiley and Damien at the entrance of the auditorium, looking a little confused and a lot startled. He told them to follow the students ahead of them, and as they approached the door they saw that the girl holding the door open was quite unusual looking. Kiley watched as Damien looked her up and down, and chuckled to herself. She had to stifle a giggle as he awkwardly tried to start a conversation with her by asking about the schedules. The young woman directed them to the back of the room beyond the open door.

"After you." He motioned for Kiley to enter the auditorium. She smiled and walked inside, and Damien followed. They headed towards the consoles at the back of the room. Kiley stood in front of one and entered her name. The screen pulled up her schedule and her room assignment. After comparing her schedule with Damien's, she saw that they shared a class called Mutant 101. Other than that, their schedules were completely different.

Kiley, excited to see her new room, took her suitcase from Damien's hand and held it. "I'm gonna go check out my room... I'm sure I'll see you in a little bit. Good luck!" She grinned as she turned to head down the hall to where the student housing was. After pausing to ask an older student for directions, she headed off to go unpack and take a look around.

Midnight at the mansion

Velana finished a few more of the floor tiles before heading to bed, leaving Mouse working on the prototype for the new student, whom Jarlan hadn't said what his name was.

Mouse worked for several hours on the modification that Jarlan had asked for. Mouse looked over the new design and felt satisfied with what she had done, but wasn't sure how to make it adjustable, since it would have to be surgically installed into the users throat. Then like a lightning bolt the idea flipped in her mind.

Mouse put up her hand, and with a few select moves she created a virtual repensentation of her hand. Then she created a texture for the hand, to make a glove. She started putting in some wiring with a wireless remote into the glove its self. Setting the finger tips up as a trigger, so that certain, unusual movements, would allow the user to set the vocal device to the wanted level. From complete scilence to letting out a small burst, to letting it have free realm. After feeling satisfied with the design she began working on the prototype.

Two hours later Mouse walked into Jarlans office.

"What can I do for you?"

"You're still awake?" Mouse smiled and walked over to the console.

"Yeah, just making sure that all the schedules are working well."

"I gave you Lajja for a reason, Jarlan." Mouse walked over and picked up Lajja, setting her on the console.

"Finally, I didn't think he'd ever let me out." Lajja came back.

"Lajja, Would you please monitor all the schedules of all the students, and ensure that nothing is overlapping please. And also, I want you to insure that Jarlan doesn't try to make me have any classes."

"Of course Mouse." Lajja turned and looked at Jarlan. "You look tired, you should get some sleep."

"I agree Professor." Mouse paused for a moment. "But, before you do, I finished this!" Mouse handed over a small device, and a glove.

"You're done with the prototype already?"

"I've had it half done for some time. Just waiting to figure out how to synth my voice, haven't figured that part out yet. But this one was a lot easier. With the exception of the glove triggering device. All the user has to do, is learn which switch does what. Once he has it down, it should work like a charm. And at night, he can switch it of, and take off the glove, which will allow him to have a sound sleep. You just have to convince him into the surgery."

"Thank you Mouse. I am sure that Drew will like this, very much. Now I just have to wait for my surgeon to get to the school."

"Get some sleep. Alessandra is worried about you, and let Lajja do the work for you. If you don't, she's set to start nagging you." Mouse smiled at Jarlan and waved to both of them as she left the room to get some sleep herself.

"Thanks," Damien said, stepping up to the console after Kiley had walked off. He typed in his name and a strew of information appeared. Schedule, room assignment, and personal information such as birthday, social security, etc. for legal reasons. Jackson spotted a line that said "mutation," and listed on it was "unknown." Hopefully, that would change after some time.

"Professor Jarlan Xander," Damien whispered to himself as he read the name of the teacher for Mutant 101. Xander... wasn't that the name of the owner of the school? Jackson was a little surprised to see that the headmaster was also a teacher, but he was also quite interested in meeting him.

Damien wandered to the dormitory area, avoiding everyone along the way. He held a printout of his information out in front of him in order to give him more purpose and luckily no one interrupted his walk. He reached his room after a little searching and found it empty still. According to the paper, a Zachariah Garner was assigned to this room as well. Damien hoped he wasn't a socialite.

Jackson took what few items he had out of his back pack and put them in the drawers. Seeing his clothes in a larger container reminded him that he didn't have much... the basic toiletries and two pairs of clothes - wash one pair, wear the other. Damien claimed the bed closest to the door - he liked being near the exit. He sat on the bed to test it out, and as he did he noticed a post-it note resting on the pillow.

"Homework due: Meet some one new!"

Damien stared at it for a second. He didn't like it when teachers forced him to interact... even if he knew it was good for him. Jackson sighed softly and thought about this homework... Kiley. Yes. Kiley was new. He would come to class and say that he met Kiley.

Although there was a shed of guilt being generated by this lazy plan, he didn't feel particularly bad about it. He was worried about something else - for his first day of classes, Damien planned on asking the teacher if there was a cure. Jackson played the scenario out in his head as he laid there, waiting for tomorrow.

The first night at the school with everyone there, went rather well. With a few cases of nightmares, and a few other cases of pratical joking on roomates. For the most part nothing much had really happened.

The sun came up, lighting up the entire school. It was a lazy Saturday, or so it seemed, as no one was up, except Velana, who was sitting in the kitchen closest to her room. She had been up since 6am as always, and it was now rolling around to 9am. The only sounds she heard came from a few of the rooms, as some of the students started to get up from their long night. Velana sat there reading a technical book, trying to understand what she and Mouse were doing.

"Good morning Velana." Shayla walked into the kitchen. "Looks like it may be a quiet day."

"Heh, already isn't too quiet." Velana smiled at her, then looked back down at the book.

Shayla still wasn't sure what to make of the woman. And wasn't even sure what her abilities really were. She only knew that they had to do with the fact that she wouldn't touch anyone, which obviously meant that human contact wouldn't be a good thing.

"What'cha reading there?"

"It's a book on engineering and wiring."

"Wow, way over my head."

"Mine too. But working with Mouse has sparked a bit of interest in me."

"How is preparation for you classes going?"

Velana again gave her a smirkish kind of smile. "Actually, as it stands, I don't have any classes, that I know of."

Shayla looked over the papers in her arms. "Says here you have a few classes."

"What?" Velana took the paper from her hand, which was a schedule of her classes. "Well, at least they aren't anything I can't deal with."

Shayla layed down her papers and took out a bowl, cereal and milk.

"What, no bacon and eggs?" Velana quipped and then caught herself.

"Nah, I prefer cereal on Saturday mornings. Old ritual in my family, cereal and Saturday morning cartoons."

Velana softly laughed at the cartoons comment, and returned to her book.

"Hey, they are fun! I see no reason not to watch them."

Velana didn't reply to her, and just kept reading.

"Well, have a good day Velana." Shayla said picking up her things, and started for the theatre.

As she reached the theatre she sat down in the back, and flipped it on. Turning on the T.V. portion of it, she sat back and started watching the cartoons.

Drew returned to his room shortly after the sun went down. He decided to write his first letter to his mother, telling her about his meeting with Jarlan and the experience of talking with a telepathic. It was exhilarating, to say the least. He also heard that there was another teacher with this same ability, and he hoped to meet her soon. If he was lucky, perhaps there were students who could read minds, but Professor Xander hadn't mentioned that.

Once he was satisfied with the letter, Drew switched off the lamp resting on his desk and sat down on his bed. The other bed was still empty, but according to his room assignment there was supposed to be another boy - Sean. Drew thought about staying up to meet this boy, but he was starting to get tired. Traveling from Illinois had worn him out a bit. So instead, Drew put on his voice constricting mask and laid down. The mask covered his mouth and held his jaw shut, and though it was uncomfortable it typically succeeded in preventing him from sleep talking - at least from sleep talking really loud.

Drew closed his eyes, controlled his breathing, and very slowly grew drowsier with every minute.

Shaina woke up, realizing that she had sunk into the bed during the night again. After phasing through the rest of the bed, she got up, noticing Sariah sleeping on the computer console. Shaina placed her hand on Sariah's back and nudged slightly.

"Psst. Sariah, the bed is much more comfortable." She slightly giggled as Sariah raised her head off of the console, she looked up at Shaina.

Shaina suddenly jumped back.

"What?" Sariah asked as she got up. "What's wrong?"

Shaina was at a loss for words for several seconds then walked up close to her. "It's... It's like.. looking in a mirror." Shaina touched Sariah's face, feeling the soft pink fur on her. "It's exactly like looking in a mirror."

Sariah got up and went to the mirror, as she saw two Shaina's standing in front of her, then suddenly her body changed back to it's original mutant state.

"Can you do that again?" Shaina ased as she looked in the mirror.

"I don't know how I did it that time."

"Well, at least you know what your mutant power is now, you can look like me." Shaina smiled at her and nudged her slightly. "Come on, I think we should get breakfast.

Sariah stood there looking at herself for sometime before nodding and walked down to the kitchen with Shaina.

Jackson was too excited to sleep well. He went to bed early, hoping to make tomorrow come faster, but instead it was a miserable, grueling process. At one point he heard his roommate enter, but Damien pretended to be asleep. There were a few hours that he was not awake, but not enough to cover the whole night. It wasn't until around four AM that he fell asleep for more than one hour.

The sun coming through the windows quickly aroused him again. Damien sat up stiffly and sighed - silently damning his insomnia. The other boy was still asleep, facing the opposite direction so Jackson couldn't see his face. Quietly, Damien slipped his clothes back on and glanced at the clock - 7:42am. Jackson groaned at how early it was and wandered out of the room.

The halls were pretty empty. Damien took this time to explore, and with so many places to go it was easy to get lost for two hours. Most doors were open, and a few of them lead to rooms that were unfinished. There were a lot of classrooms, but they blended in quite well with the rest of the school. Really, the place looked more like a massive mansion than a learning institute.... which was really pretty cool. The place felt comfortable. Damien's previous high school felt more like a prison with a silver and blue mascot.

Jackson walked into one room that appeared to be under construction still - well, at least a little bit. There were some tools lying around and it was dirty. Damien spotted a metal cylinder on the ground, possibly meant to be a piece of scaffolding or something - it looked discarded. Jackson picked it up and looked it over; it was nearly two feet long, fairly heavy for its size, and the circumference was about equal to that of the narrow portion of a baseball bat. Damien spun it like a baton and smiled at it.

The material was simple. It was a type of steel, he knew that much, and it hadn't been mixed with any synthetics. It was a more natural, raw formation of minerals. Damien could feel it... just by touching. Jackson removed a glove from one hand and touched the steel again, this time more intimately. Yes... the simplicity of it felt familiar, almost as if the metal he was holding in his hand was a phantom limb - he felt like it was attached to him, a part of him, and yet not there.

Damien closed his eyes and concentrated on this idea. As he held the metal in his hand, suddenly he felt something soothing. Like many times before, he could see a googolplex of tiny dots surrounding him. His body was no longer a solid object, but just a microscopic piece of a gargantuan whole. The metal bar was its own entity, its own group of tiny dots - absolutely fascinating. Energy and matter in its millions of forms swirled around him, all of it so hopelessly overwhelming! Damien felt like these dots he saw, reminiscent of the Matrix, were under his command. The metal, his skin, his clothes, the floor, everything he touched - with a thought it conformed to his wishes. But how? How would he control it? His head already ached with concentration and the dots barely swirled, barely changed color, barely responded to his thoughts. He could feel the power, but he couldn't harness it. It was like pulling the trigger of a gun on safety, trying to move an atrophied muscle, or trying to open a door with the wrong key. It... was... starting... to... hurt!

Damien snapped out of his daze and nearly dropped the metal bar. Jackson didn't understand his power, but he certainly knew he had one. Only problem was, all it ever seemed to do was hurt people he touched, or break things. Jackson released a defeated sigh, feeling like he once again failed to figure out his ability. Damien set the metal bar down, and as he did, he glanced briefly at the skin on his hand. Suddenly, the young man found himself doing a double take - his skin was silver.

"What the hell?" Damien brought his hand closer to his face, frantically examining the skin. It was steel...

"Oh God, no, what have I done!?" Damien whispered hoarsely. He flexed his fingers and found that that they still moved, albeit slower. Jackson felt a strong fear deep within his chest and instinctively pulled back his sleeve to reveal his wrist. There was normal flesh on his arm, but the silvery metal was creeping its way down to his elbow as if he'd been doused with liquid metal.

"What?!" Damien's voice raised a little louder now as panic set in. He didn't want to wake anyone up, but he suddenly felt a great need for medical assistance. Jackson darted out of the unfinished room and jogged down the hallways, glancing into each room in hopes of finding a professor. He stuffed his gloves into his pockets and ran as silently as possible. Damien was doing well until he noticed that the metal had gone past his elbow and he couldn't see flesh any longer. As he ran, the boy pulled off his sweater to reveal a plain short-sleeved shirt underneath. The metal was spreading fast now, like a poison, traveling past his shoulder and spreading across his chest and back. Jackson clawed at the metal with his other hand thinking that he could peel it off, but the metal was not on top of his skin - it was his skin.

Now more scared then ever, Damien pulled his shirt off as he ran, holding it in his normal hand. Jackson rounded a corner and found himself in the kitchen, spotting the first adult he'd seen all morning. A woman, with brown hair and green eyes, sat there calmly reading a book. She had gloves on, which Damien noticed right away, but he wasn't in the position to ask about it. No, he was out of his mind insanely scared.

"Help!" he said, just above his normal voice, which was amazingly unusual for him. His entire left arm was hard and shiny, like polished steel, and his skin was still converting to metal as he stood there. His chest, his side, his back, a part of his stomach, and half of his neck were falling victim to this change. In a matter of seconds the metal was going to cover the entire surface area of his body. Damien stood there, panting, holding his shirt and sweater in one hand and just staring at Velana like she would know what to do.

"I just touched a metal beam in one of the rooms! I didn't mean anything by it! I don't know what's happening to me!"

Velana looked up from her book, and layed it on the table.

"Quick question for you. Does it hurt?" Her Russian accent could be heard even more so, with the cold demeaner that she said it with.

Jackson found himself caught off guard by Velana's serenity, as well as her foreign accent. He was still panicked, but her calmness made him feel less scared.

"I... I..." Damien looked at himself, watched as the silver stretched to his other arm and crept up his neck. Jackson tapped one of his metal fingers against his chest, resulting in a light ting ting sound, but he felt nothing.

"It... uh..." Damien considered the sensation and replied with a tone that hinted at his utter surprise. "No?"

"Then why so panicked?" Velana picked up her book, and began reading it. "I'd suggest grabbing a bite to eat, and relax." She said as she turned the page, and kicked out the chair in front of her, moving another chair over, and then putting her feet up.

***********

Jarlan had fallen asleep after he finally went into his room, around 2am. He fell into a deep sleep, something he hadn't done in some time. The dreams and nightmares kept him from even wanting to sleep a lot of the time. Something always seemed just to real, as if he wasn't really sleeping.

As the light shone through the window he found himself waking up, actually feeling quite refreshed. Crawling out of bed, and getting dressed didn't take too long, and then he made his way into his office around 8am.

"Lajja?"

"Yes Professor?"

"What did you make of the schedules?"

"I found 114 errors in the records, including names and scheduling problems, and have fixed them all."

"Wow, impressive, how did you do that?"

"I noticed a faculty member listed who had no classes, and gave the students who were conflicting to her classes. I made sure to check her records, and she is qualified to do the classes of which I gave her."

"Who's the faculty member?" Jarlan was afraid of the answer, knowing that both Mouse and Velana had no classes for the first semester.

"On Mouses direction that it not be her, I found Velana Prova to be a highly accredited professor. It would seem that she would be a perfect choice for the classes I gave her."

"Well, I hope she doesn't have a problem with them." Jarlan whispered.

"I am sure she will have no problems at all, Jarlan."

"Oh." Right when it happened, Damien figured his skin changing would warrant a medical emergency, but he had forgotten in his panic that this was a mutant school. Everyone here was a mutant. His condition must not have been an emergency at all.

Damien's skin finally finished its transformation. From head to toe, including his eyes, hair and teeth, was as hard, slick, and reflective as steel. Damien flexed his average sized muscles - he was a skinny kid - and marveled for a moment at how the metal bent with him. Jackson explored the kitchen a moment, his heart still racing, and tried to calm down by rummaging for food. He found the silverware eventually, and just out of pure experimentation he stuck himself with a knife. Naturally, the knife just harmlessly tapped against his stomach.

"I hope this isn't permanent..." he thought, pulling his shirt back on. It felt weird slipping the shirt on over metal, especially with his senses so dulled from the transformation. Damien put his hoodie back on as well, pulling the hood over his head and slipping the gloves over his hands. More then ever he wanted to hide now... he hoped that only the professor had heard him pleading like a little boy.

Damien found the cereal, a little hesitant to eat it thinking that it wasn't his, but Velana had suggested he grab a bite to eat... so he did. The young man shyly took the open seat nearest to Velana and set his bowl in front of him. He felt a little nervous about trying to eat with metal teeth, so on his first spoonful he was careful not to bite down. Funny, though, because his lips were steel as well therefore just pulling the spoon out make a light shing sound.

"That's going to be annoying," he whispered to himself. Luckily, his insides must have remained normal because the food went down just fine. He felt it travel down his throat and a chill sensation in his belly. Damien looked over at the professor, a woman he didn't know, and he was reminded that she wore gloves. He decided to stop thinking about the metal for a moment and instead ask her about her mutation - perhaps they had the same one?

"I don't know what I am," he said softly, almost quiet enough to make him think that Velana didn't hear him. She remained silent, reading from her book. Velana was very chiseled for a woman, very rough around the edges. She struck Damien as the "tough love" type... she was foreign, so possibly came from a tougher life. Her accent reminded him of something eastern European, like one of those countries with "vakia" at the end of it. Or the Ukraine, Finland, Serbia, Hungary, or just good ol' Russia. Damien was no linguistic expert.

"All I did was touch it," Damien continued. He paused between cereal bites and flexed the fingers of one gloved hand. "Do... you... change when you... touch things?"

Velana flipped the page of her book, then put a small bend on the page and closed it.

"Only when I touch people." Velana looked over the now fully metal boy. "But I change inside more than outside." Velana kicked the chair from out of under her feet, and scooted slightly closer to Damien. "If you want to know what my mutation is, just ask." Velana sat back in her chair and looked at the boy for a minute, before he finally spoke up.

"What is it.. that you do?"

Velana smiled. "Whenever someone touches my skin, or I touch theirs, I take part of their life away. If they aren't a mutant, this can lead to a coma, or possibly even death. Now, when I touch a mutant, I not only take part of their life force away, but I also take whatever mutation they may have. For instance, if I touch you, then I would have whatever mutation you have, for a while. However, if I were to kill you..." Velana paused to let her words sink in. "Then I'd take your powers forever." Velana picked the book back up, and pulled the chair back under her feet. And began looking through the book again. "Oh, and before you ask, the downside of my power, is the fact that every person that I've ever touched in my entire life, is part of me now. I know them more intimately than any person should ever know someone else. And those that have died because of my touch are the most prominent voices that I hear. I take on the traits of the person who touched me, their very personality, and I can never get rid of that. I can fight it, and become myself again, but it's a long fight, and I'd prefer never having to go through it."

Shaina and Sariah made their way to the main kitchen, where they ran into a few other students who were making themselves breakfast. Shaina smiled as she walked into the kitchen grabbed the bowls of cereal, handed one to Sariah, and acted as if all the other students weren't even looking at her, or Sariah.

"Doesn't it bother you that they look at you like that?" Sariah quietly asked Shaina.

"Nah, the way I figure it, they're just to dumbfounded about my natural beauty that they can't help but stare." Shaina smiled, knowing she was talking loud enough for the students to hear her. "Let's go see what's going on in the theatre."

"We have a theatre?"

"Yeah, I haven't seen anything but news on there recently, but it is Saturday morning."

The two girls walked in and noticed that the theatre was on, and several students were already sitting in it, eating their breakfast, and at the very back Shayla O'malley sat there smiling and laughing at the cartoons playing. Shaina grabbed Sariahs hand and pulled her over to where Shayla was sitting.

"Mind if we sit here?"

"Not at all, pull up a seat." Shayla smiled at both girls and then began watching again.

Sariah started to eat, and felt herself actually begin to get comfortable with being at the school.

Jarlan made several calls, making sure when the surgeon would be able to come to the school. The medical room in the basement was completely done, and was a complete clean room, completely sealed off from the rest of the basement, and only surgeons and nurses were allowed to enter.

After verifying that everything was set up, Jarlan walked over to Drew's room. After knocking multiple times Jarlan entered, knowing that Drew couldn't hear, and that his roomate must not be in.

Jarlan put his hand on Drews shoulder and lightly pushed him, until he looked up at him. "We need to talk about something." Jarlan said in his mind.

Drew was partially asleep and undisturbed by Sean. If Legion had attempted to wake him verbally it had no effect, so the boy slept very well. Once mid-morning came, Drew felt a light, albeit firm, touch on his shoulder.

"We need to talk about something." It was Jarlan again. Pleased to "hear" his voice, Drew sat up in his bed and smiled.

"Okay," he thought, stretching a little bit and immediately taking off his mask.

"The bed was comfortable. What did you want to talk about?"

Jarlan sat down on the bed.

"Well, we need to talk about something that Mouse has created, that will hopefully work very well for you. But we need to discuss what all it entails."

Jarlan reached into his pocket, and pulled out the black plastic piece and a glove.

"This is a vocal inhibitor, it would have to be surgically put into the lower part of your thorax, and the glove, will wirelessly control the inhibitor, so that you can use your gift, and yet block it off completely when you don't want to blow things away."

Jarlan put the glove on, and held the piece in his hand.

"With the glove, you just have to use contact points in it, to make it shut." Jarlan pushed his forefinger to his thumb and the inhibitor slightly opened. Then Jarlan pushed his ring finger to his thumb, and the inhibitor opened up all the way. Then Jarlan pushed his middle finger to his thumb and it closed completely off. "So, are you willing to undergo a surgical procedure in order to have this put in?"

Velana's power sounded miserable to Damien. It made her a very formidable mutant, but her abilities were also a burden. At least she wasn't the touchy-feely type.

"I'm sorry. Sounds like... a crappy deal." The boy swallowed the last bit of cereal and sighed. "I was hoping maybe we were the same, but... we can't be." Damien set his spoon down inside the bowl - all that was left was a shallow pool of milk. He got up from his seat and brought the dish to the sink, where he proceeded to clean it. For a moment he was reminded of his time in Prescott.

The other kids at the school seemed to know just what their powers were and how to use them. Damien felt behind in that regard. He had all weekend to think it over, but he really wanted to get to class on Monday and see if there was a specific learning process. Jackson didn't feel like doing anything but working on his power... he was becoming a little obsessive.

Damien switched off the water and then touched his face to see if his flesh had returned to normal, but the cold, hard touch of steel was still there. After stifling an exasperated sigh, Damien turned and headed for the hallway. Before exiting the kitchen he turned his head to Velana to bid her farewell.

"Thanks again, Professor... uh..." Damien hadn't noticed that he didn't catch her name.

"Just call me me Velana, unless you have me in a class." Velana looked over the boy. "Take a seat."

She waited til he sat down.

"Believe it or not, I've had to deal with so many different powers already in my life, that I may be able to help you with your's right now. I want you to close your eyes, and think about everything about your skin, the feeling of it, the way it's made, and what it is made of."

Drew almost "said" whoa, which would have been a disaster, but he choked back the expression and let his mind do the talking. The technology of the glove and inhibitor was very impressive, and he had to admit that the glove actually looked really cool. However - Drew had never had surgery before, and just that fear factor made him hesitant. A multitude of questions popped up in his head, so he struggled a little keeping them focused. He was getting better at it.

"I like it. I like it much better than this mask, but how is it powered? Will I have to have batteries put in me? Is it a dangerous surgery?"

"It is a minor surgery that can be done within a few hours. With the right surgeon, it will be very quick. It is powered with a renewing power source, in fact it is created to be recharged by your voice." Jarlan smiled slightly at him. "So, anytime you talk, it recharges the power supply, much like wind power. Whether it is off or on. So, this will give you a peace of mind about saying things, when you feel like saying things. And yet, will keep you from accidently destroying things."

Damien took a deep breath and tried Velana's suggestion. He closed his eyes and focused his mind on his skin. Jackson concentrated, bringing himself into a semi-meditative state and found himself in a place he had been before. The world broke down into molecules that he could see, hear, taste, touch - all with his mind.

Metal. His skin was composed of iron and carbon. Damien wasn't even sure what the elements were and how they worked in relation to each other, but he could feel them there.

"I see..." Damien spoke, his eyes still closed. The silvery skin on his face started to brighten, started to shift, looking much like it did when it first enveloped him. As he concentrated, the steel looked more alive, like it was becoming pliable. "I see elements... or... cells... something like chemicals or minerals."

Drew nodded, gaining much more confidence in the procedure. It sound like this device would greatly improve his day to day living.

"Just one more thing," he thought, looking the glove over more carefully. "Does it come in other colors?"

Drew grinned at Jarlan.

Velana looked up from her book, and watched as the shiny skin began to shift. "Concentrate on the molecules that are most life like. The ones that really make you, who you are. Ignore the others, the difference is going to be that most of your skin is made up of water, which is a mixture of two gases, oxygen and hydrogen. hydrogen should be easy enough to pick out, since the molecule is very small. Concentrate on the smallest particles, and what is around it, and that should be the normal state of your skin."

Velana looked back down at the book, and realized that she had finished it, and put it on the table.

***************************

Jarlan smiled at the comment. "Well, I'm sure we can arrange a way to cover the black glove up with whatever color you want, but the glove its self, is one of a kind."

Damien listened intently and followed very carefully. It seemed overwhelming at first - trying to find a specific type of molecule among a galaxy of particles - but when he actually applied himself it wasn't difficult. Even though he would be more effective with science training, the boy's body had an innate ability to understand the chemistry of the universe. Damien found the tiny atoms jittering about, and they felt right. They just felt like hydrogen. They were a part of a whole that made up his original epidermis, and as he focused on them he felt a change.

Electrons started shifting about. Like some sort of fusion or fission, the atoms were changing, converting before his eyes. The metal was disappearing, the iron and carbon were mutating into the organic material of his skin.

Jackson's face was the first place that returned to normal. His hair, his eyes, his nose, his mouth - the steel seemed to just wash away. After a few more seconds, Damien was back to normal.

"Fair enough," Drew replied. His light-hearted demeanor hinted that he was mostly kidding. "Black is pretty cool anyway. So when do we do this? I'm ready to toss this thing -" Drew picked up his old mask, holding it with disdain.

"I'm hoping to have the surgeon here tomorrow, and if everything is to his liking, she'll do the surgery then." Jarlan smiled and stood up. "I'll let you know for sure when it will be, as soon as I know. Any other questions?"

-----------------------------------------------------------

Velana smiled as he returned to normal.

"Looks like you found them." Velana kicked the chair out of under her feet again, and stood up. "I suggest a little practice, and a lot of chemistry study. By the way, what is your name?"

"No, I'm quite all right," Drew shook his head. "I look forward to meeting the doctor. Thanks again, Professor."

Damien touched his own face, and Velana was right. Jackson smiled and felt a great sensation of pride. Sure, maybe he didn't exactly understand his power, but it was coming along.

"Damien Jackson," he replied softly, looking back up at her appreciatively. The boy was very happy to have received such valuable assistance from his teacher, but as always he could just barely muster up a smile.

"Thank you... I agree. Science. I can tell I'll need it."

"Not just science." Velana looked down at the papes that Shayla had brought to her.

"Chemistry." Velana smiled as she penciled down Damien Jackson on the paper. "Do you have your schedule with you?"

Jarlan nodded and walked out of the room.

OOC: Papes? Hehe, sounds like the newsies

IC:

"Yeah," Damien said, but he was thinking, "I stayed up all night staring at it." He was too anxious to sleep. He put the schedule in his pants, and since he only had two pairs it was pretty easy to not lose track of it. Jackson took the piece of paper from his pocket - which was very hard with leather gloves on - and looked at it again.

As Kiley approached her room, she glanced again at her room assignment. She was sharing a room with somebody named Shynira. Hm, that's an unusual name, she thought to herself. The door was unlocked so she walked inside and looked around. She didn't see anybody in the room, but Shynira must have been there because one of the beds was covered in somebody else's belongings.

Kiley walked over to the unoccupied bed and set her luggage down next to it. As she opened her suitcase and began unpacking, she couldn't shake the feeling that she wasn't alone. Perhaps she was just going crazy from being in a new place. She felt like somebody was watching her. She looked around nervously a few times-- even looking up at the ceiling for cameras-- before finally speaking.

"...Hello? Is anybody there?"

Shynira watched as her new roomy walked in, and took the other bed. She then stood and walked over to her, but as she got closer, the girl suddenly seemed to 'feel' her presense. Shynira watached out of curiosity, til she heard her ask if anyone was there.

"Yeah, I'm right behind you." Shynira said while standing directly behind her, then moved as she turned around. "Sorry, didn't meant to startle you." Shynira made herself visible beside her. "My name is Shynira."

Kiley jumped a little as a voice right behind her replied, "Yeah, I'm right behind you." She turned to look behind her but there was nobody there. Out of nowhere, a girl appeared next to her.

"Sorry, didn't mean to startle you. My name is Shynira."

The girl smiled at her, and Kiley smiled back. "Oh, it's, uh... it's okay. I didn't know you could do that. Uh, I'm Kiley."

"You're new here, huh?" Shynira walked back over to her bed and sat down. Kiley continued putting clothes away as she replied.

"Yeah, I just got here today, actually... what about you?"

Damien handed Velana the schedule and watched curiously as she took it from him.

"I've been here for a while, so I know must of the school. Perhaps tomorrow I could show you around or something."

Shynira kicked off her shoes and leaned back against the wall her bed was against.

"But, for now I think I'm gonna go to sleep."

**************************

Velana took the schedule and after comparing it to her own she crossed out one of the classes on his schedule. A life science class, and penciled in a new class. The new schedule for his 3rd hour read. "Velana Prova, room 310, Chemistry 101 College level." She then handed him back his schedule. "Don't worry about the College level, you should catch on pretty quick."

Damien watched as his professor altered his schedule then promptly handed it back to him. He looked down at the paper and the words that had been changed. Where there once had been a freshman level high school course was now a freshmen level college course. Damien looked at it like it was about to jump off the page and stab him.

"Don't worry about the College level, you should catch on pretty quick." Velana's voice was confident. Jackson looked at her a little skeptically, but there wasn't a shred of doubt in her voice or her eyes. Her faith in him, or rather her experience in understanding other mutants' powers, gave him faith in himself. He knew that he had a knack for chemistry that was greatly augmented by his mutation, but it took Velana's mentoring to get him to understand that.

"I'll do my best," Damien said, folding up the paper. Jackson had never been excited about education as a child, but lately he couldn't wait to get to class. His power was directly related to chemistry, he knew this now. It seemed obvious as he looked back on his past experiences, he just hadn't put the two together. He had taken biology and briefly outlined molecules, atoms, electrons, neutrons, and the periodic table of elements - but he had yet to go in depth. It was simply ignorance that was holding him back.

"Thanks again, Velana."

Velana stood up and headed towards the door.

"So, I'll see you in my class Monday then." She then left the room and headed down to the basement, where she figured she would find Mouse working on something.

Sean had woken up pretty early as he always had, a strange dream had been running through his mind where he'd been stuck in one body and it had felt more than a little weird. But pulling himself together he'd slipped into a pair of track bottoms and a plain black t-shirt with pacman on it and snuck out of the room.

Making his way to the gym he took stock of the size of the mat and stood at one corner and took a deep breath before closing his eyes and focusing. With a glimmer 5 more of him appeared in a line along the edge of the mats and began to stretch quietly. After about 5 minutes of stretches and a few coordinated warm-up exercises the copies paired off and began working their way through the various kata's for the ju-jitsu that Sean had been learning since he was 6. Having already gained instructor status and the second dan of his black belt, he found training against himself the best way to improve as he was by far his own harshest critics. He'd been banned from competing in tournaments and asked not to return to the club, albeit publicly, after he shared his secret with his original sensei even though the two are still friends.

After running through the movements a couple of times a few of his duplicates faded away and the remaining four of him faced off. Taking it turn about 3 would attack one which would have to defend themselves properly. Fighting against himself he didn't hold back one inch and only through hard practice and the fact that he knew himself well enough he managed to avoid any serious injury. Roughly an hour later and it was nearly 8am. With a glimmer and a slight groan as he nursed a few sore ribs and a nasty bruise on his arm he made his way to the showers and took a long warm soak in the hot water before heading out in search of breakfast.
