Punishment: An Eye for an Eye

Post by Nichalus »

***WARNING...GRAPHIC CONTENT***

Her glassy blue eyes stared up into his, unmoving...accusing...pleading, and they would forever be etched into his memory.

The fact that the side of her head was a gaping wound of shattered bone, pieces of grey matter exposed beneath her now gore speckled auburn hair, was almost an after thought in his deeply traumatized mind. How many times he had run his hands through that hair, the smooth, silkiness feel of it sending impulses of electricity up his arm, creating a soothing emotion within his own body. It was one of the few things in Alec Chambers life that soothed him, and calmed his mind from the images of his work life.

But work life is what brought him to the present. Work life is the reason why his wife now laid in front of him with those shining blue eyes staring back at him. Her face was now a mosaic of blood that crisscrossed her beautiful facial features. Blood ran over the small mole below her lips, that he teased her about. He wanted to reach out and wipe the runnel of blood away from it, so he could see it one more time. But he couldn't due to the large gentlemen in gray suits and ties, that held his arms behind him so tightly, that if they applied just another ounce of pressure, his shoulders would pop out of their sockets like a greased ball through a child's hand.

"You fucked with the wrong people this time Alec..." A even larger man stood in front of Chambers, his shoulders were extremely broad, so much so he would have to turn sideways just to enter a room. His Russian accent was thick, but so monotone that one knew that if one listened too long to it, sleep would follow. "Fury was told not to interfere with the situation in Kashlov, he was warned what the consequences would be if we so much as sniffed that SHIELD was on our soil."

Alec could only continue to stare into his dead wife's eyes. Tears of anguish rolled down his cheeks to mix with the blood that flowed from his fractured jaw, and bloodied lips. Hell, he was barely aware of the Russian even speaking to him.

"Daddy?" Came the low, shock filled voice of his son Tyler, who now stood in front of the Russian. The Russian's thick fingers lying on Tyler's shoulders.

Tyler's eyes looked into his Dad's eyes, his 5 year old mind trying to comprehend the blood, bodies and broken furniture that were littering the living room of his house.

They were incredibly stealthy in their approach to his modest cabin in the lush woods of his Montana home. Here he had sought to escape the surroundings of his cold and sterile work life. A place where he could look at the mountains, watch the swaying of the giant pines that surrounded his house, and pretty much the rest of the 25 acres he owned. A place where he thought he could have a family, away from the bustle and dangers of the big cities.

Fury had told him years ago when Alec told him, well he had to report it to Fury, that he was going to marry. 'Your making a 'big' mistake Alec. Guys like us can't afford to bind ourselves to emotional attachments. They are a liability.'

Right now, he wanted nothing more than to punch Director Fury in the face...namely for being right.

Even with all the security sensors surrounding his property, the Russians had managed to bypass or deactivate them all. The one they didn't get, was the Walmart Brand Infrared 'Beeper' system that his wife had picked out and brought home to Alec after a grocery run to the city. Alec had laughed at her for wasting money on the cheap ass devices, when he explained that the devices out on the property now, were million dollar designs and built at the S.H.I.E.L.D. Labs.

But he had seen the hurt on her face, and he immediately apologized and together he placed them at the corners of the house, hidden among the neatly trimmed bushes. Alec had heard the distinctive 'ding' of the device being tripped, and for the briefest of moments he wondered what the hell Tyler was doing up so late playing one of his electronic games. But then his training and instincts kicked in.

He grabed his iPad next to him, tapped the controls, and the infrared cameras that were mounted in the high trees surrounding the house, pulled up on the pad's screen. What he saw next filled him with dread. Several heat blooms were moving in from all sides of the house. The unmistakable silhouettes of automatic weaponry held in their hands.

"MILLIE!!! GET TYLER AND GET IN THE SAFE ROOM NOW!!!" Alec screamed, and then the world exploded around him...

Alec barely managed, in the second before his large bay window exploded, to kick the edge of the large oakwood sofa table and tip it up, and block most of the flying shards of glass and metal. The force of the blast slammed the table against him, propelling him painfully hard against the rocky fireplace mantle.

Three black masked and fatigued covered men entered through the shattered window and carefully approached the table, that was now tipped up and leaning against the fireplace. They could see Alec's unmoving leg behind the table, the pants tore and shredded by the flying glass, and blood running from the wounds they caused.

One of the attackers, with his assault rifle aimed at the table, kicked Alec's leg, which did not move, nor was a sound heard. That is until the attacker's head suddenly disappeared in a red, bone and gore-filled mist, that was preceeded by the center of the wooden table exploding from the blast of the Mossberg Persuader shotgun that Alec had retrieved from the secret compartment beneath the table.

Alec was now moving and thinking with his extensive Military Training, confuse, attack....and show no mercy to the enemy. He lashed out with his foot, kicking the remains of the table towards the second attacker, while at the same time thrusting the Persuader's pointed and slightly barbed barrel tips into the material of the third attackers kelvar armored vest, twisted the shotgun in his hands causing the pronged tip of the barrel to lock into the material.

Just as the second attacker was recovering from dodging the flying wooden table, the attacker leveled his automatic rifle at Alec, and depressed the trigger, just as Alec pulled his shotgun barrel hooked attacker around. The second attacker's rounds spewed out in a fiery hail of deadly metal, straight into the back of Alec's attacker. The assailant's body jerked rythmically as the powerful rounds slammed into him, while at the same time Alec pushed against his captive, forcing the attacking soldier to walk backwards until he was pinned against the wall.

Alec pushed his captive against the other and then depressed the trigger. The armor piercing shotgun round easily penetrated the armor of both the assailants. Alec released the barrel hooks of the attacker with a slight twist of the shotgun, and both of their bodies fell to the floor in a twisted heap.

The next group of attackers suddenly burst through the shattered window, their automatic weapons already spewing fire and lead in Alec's direction. But Alec was already moving, running through the hail of bullets like a fly weaves it's way through the raindrops of a storm. Wood, stonewall, and glass from shattering pictures of his family, pelted his body as he made his way down the short hallway by the front door.

The door suddenly erupted as a breaching charge shattered it like so much matchwood, and another assailant came through it. Alec dropped and slid on the hardwood floor on his back, and as he passed through the assailants legs, the Mossberg spoke it's song of flame and lead between the man's legs, almost literally splitting him from groin to the center of his chest. Alec then snatched the AR-15 from the dead man's hands, as his feet hit the bottom of the stairs, and he was climbing three steps at a time up them.

Two more attackers made the unfortunate mistaken of trying to follow Alec up the stairs, assuming that he would be heading to the Master Bedroom. But as the first reached the landing, Alec came around the corner, jammed the barrel of the AR-15 through his goggles and deep into the man's brain, depressed the trigger, and killed the attacker's associate behind him with a combination of bone, brain and lead.

"I told you that he was good." The Russian's thick Baltic voice came from below somewhere out of sight.

Alec leaned back against the wall, he squeezed his eyes tightly closed. He knew that voice, he knew that if he was here, that there would be no negotiating. The Russian had risked, quietly and covertly, coming onto US soil. Found Alec and his residence, and come personally to make good his promise that he had made Alec back in Kashlov so many months ago.

'Thank God Millie and Tyler made it to...

"ALEC!!!" Millie's shriek came from below, her voice a tone of utter terror and cry for help.

Silence as thick as syrup ensued, as Alec stood at the top of the stairs. No other attackers attempted to come up the stairs, and Alec took the moment, checked the AR's magazine clip, and then leaned his head against the wall.

"Come on down Comrade Alec." The Russian spoke casually, as if inviting him to a private party that was convened in his honor. "This does not have to be such a dramatic situation. You have my word that I shall not harm your wife and child...that would make me quite the monster, would it not?"

Alec didn't believe the man in the slightest. Words, nothing but words. But what choice did he have?

Slowly, he crept down the wall side of the stairs, his feet finding the perfect spots in the stairs that did not creak or give anything to give away his position. As he reached the landing, he took a deep breath, and then slowly peered around the corner.

There was an immediate familiar click as the hammer of one of the Russian's soldiers cocked the hammer back on the .45 Smith and Wesson, that was pointing at the back of his sobbing wife's head. Alec flattened his back against the wall, and squeezed his eyes shut tightly in despair for a moment. Within his mind, his thoughts were trying to concentrate, pulling everything in order. His brief glimpse around the corner told him the position of the six other assailants in the room besides the big Russian.

'God Damn you Fury....God Damn you...' He thought over and over in his mind. He was right of course, Fury had most definitely been right. He should not have put his family in this jeapordy, he never should have gotten involved. He didn't know if he was more angry about Fury being right, or at himself for being wrong.

Alec looked down at the dead soldier lying on the stairs, the hole in his head so pronounced, he could see the beige shag carpeting on the stairs through it. Reaching down with his free hand, he quickly unclipped the corpse's Gerber tactical knife, a 9mm Beretta 92F from it's holster on the tactical vest. Quickly, he clipped the knife to the back of his undershirt behind his back, and placed the 9mm in his waistband in the small of his back.

"Come now Comrade Alec, let us make this neat and quick. We told Fury not to interfere, yet he sent you to assassinate our strike team despite our warning..."

"W..What?" Came the shaky voice of his wife. "Assassinate..? Please...your making a mistake, my husband didn't kill anyone. He sells insurance!"

There was a moment and the Russian suddenly laughed loudly. "Insurance?!? Oh my, that is indeed rich!" The Russian laughed again, a good hardy laugh that would be more appropriate between friends over dinner. "You mean to tell me that your husband did not tell you that he works for S.H.I.E.L.D., and that he is perhaps one of their best 'Liquidators'? Insurance, indeed." The Russian gestured to the fallen soldiers. "Does this look like the work of a 'Insurance' Salesman? Life Insurance would be more appropriate."

"Alec.....?" She said, her voice tinged with questioning doubt.

Leaning his forehead against the barrel of the AR-15, Alec silently cursed. "God Damn you Dmitri..."

Alec suddenly wheeled around the corner of the wall, the AR-15 pointing directly at Dmitri's head. The remaining soldiers leveled their weapons at him, with one still pointing his pistol to his wife's head.

"Hold your fire..." Dmitri said in a soft voice, and a knowing smile on his lips. "Did you 'really' think we wouldn't find you Alec? You really have no idea of what is going on here, do you?"

"I know that your going to let my wife and son go, or I'm going to blow your fucking head off." Alec stated with conviction in his voice.

"You will do no such thing. You lack the conviction in your words my comrade. But I have such conviction." Dmitri responded, and Alec knew...he knew...he was right. "And to prove my point.......shoot her."

"NO!" Alec screamed, but the report from the pistol was as instantaneous, as the finality of it's meaning. Her eyes were on him at the moment, the stark terror, the knowing clarity that was contained within them, would forever be etched within his mind...burned into his memory.

Her body jerked as the round neatly went through her skull, and exploded out the other side. Her silky bright blonde hair flipped up with a strange grace and beauty as the bullet traveled through it. Her body fell forward against the floor, but her eyes never left his, they seemed locked onto his...accusingly...betrayal shining from them.

The AR suddenly spoke fire and hell, as Alec...without even knowing...pulled the trigger into the gunman that had just killed his wife. At this close range, the gunman's body armor made little difference, as the impact forced him back against the wall, and Alec did not let up on the trigger. Smoke and flame filled the living room, as the remaining 40 rounds .223 penetrated the kelvar, and Alec blasted a tight, concentrated bloody hole into the gunman's chest. He would not remember...he screamed through the entire attack. His world centered on this one man, everything else did not matter.

Dmitri merely stood there, holding his hands up to the other soldiers, telling them to hold their fire, he was well aware of the dark place that Alec now held in his mind.

When Alec came back to his senses, he wheeled around, dropping the rifle and pulling the Beretta from his waistband in one fluid move. The gun came around to find his son Tyler standing in front of Dmitri, who's hands were on the boys shoulders. His son's blue eyes stared back into his, wide and full of shock, tears flowed from them as he looked between his father and his mother lying on the floor. The poor boy's mind was just unable to process the unthinkable.

"If it will make you feel more at ease Comrade Alec.." Dmitri began, with an almost sympathetic tone in his voice. "...all of this was ordained. There was nothing you could have done to prevent this. They have been guiding the lives of people for decades now, pushing soldiers and civilians alike for their own agendas. But your ..usefulness... has come to an end. Fury was too much of a distraction for their goals for you. He kept you too grounded, too insulated from them, so....they decided that they had invested enough in you, and you had to be eliminated."

Dmitri smiled slightly. "Especially after the Koshlov situation. You got to close to something..."

Alec heard everything, but he reacted to none of it. His mind was gone, he couldn't think of anything but her eyes on him. Alec crumpled to his knees, the Beretta fell from his hand. The five gunman descended on him, holding his arms behind his back painfully.

***The Present***

"You fucked with the wrong people this time Alec..." Dimitri stated. "And now...you must begin your destiny."

Dimitri passed Tyler to one of the soldiers at his side, and then knelt down, putting his large hand under Alec's chin and forcefully bringing Alec's head up, so he could look into his eyes. "Just know my friend, that this is not personal, it is purely business."

"Daddy?" Tyler looked at his father, still his young mind is unable to process everything happening around him. His eyes are wide open and tinged with redness from crying. His eyes are looking at his father, asking, pleading for him to make sense of everything. But then the soldier roughly picks up the boy, and now reality is crashing in on his mind and he wants nothing more than for his father to come and take him away from these men. His scream is heart rending, his hands jut out from his body reaching for his kneeling father, his fingers splayed out grasping at the air.

"DADDY, HELP ME!!!"

It was the last thing that Alec would hear from his son, as his adrenaline surges at the screams of his boy, his one lifeline that he now has left. His shoulder painfully comes completely unhinged as he lunges forward from the hold of his captor, but he feels nothing. Rage fills his mind, pure, undying and maddening rage. He swings his dislocated arm around in a swooping arc, and catches the other soldier holding him in the side of his neck, the dead weight of his arm snaps the soldier's neck making his head angle oddly onto his own shoulder, as his body falls to the floor.

The remaining soldier barely has time to register what has happened, as Alec brings his elbow under his chin, shatter the man's teeth like a savage's necklace being broken, then Alec grabs the man's throat and with a savage furiousity rips the soldier's throat open revealing his larnex and bloody muscles that lie beneath the skin. The soldier falls to his knees holding his ravaged neck, a horrid gurgling sound issuing from his mouth.

Alec has only time enough to turn his head to look for Dimitri, and finds the big Russians fist filling his vision, and then blackness falls on his world.

Time has a way of deceptively sneaking away from a shattered and worn mind, much like the wind does not care for the mountain that stands in it's way..it finds it's way around it until it slowly wears it down over time.

Alec's mind was much like the mountain against the wind in the beginning. When he regained his consciousness, he found nothing but darkness. No windows, no sounds but his own breathing, complete isolation. He could tell there were various I.Vs stuck in his arms and legs, mainly for providing nutrients. He could also tell that there were mood-enhancing/altering medicines being used on him. He could feel there effects on his thoughts, and worst of all his dreams. Dreams that he did not wish to recall, but whomever was running this interogation was indeed a professional, because he found himself drifting off to sleep each day, and the dark, secretive dreams returning in earnest.

For days..or was it months, the darkness would not give up its own secrets, he lay strapped to the table. Automatic sections of the table moved independantly to keep his muscles from atrophying. The table itself moved on an axis in slow 360 degree turns, keeping his blood flow even and preventing thrombosis, or clotting of the veins and arties in his legs. Oh, his captors had taken in all possible options, and yet no one had spoken to him, visited him. He had not heard another's voice since he first woke in his black void that now engulfed him daily.

"How are you feeling today Alec? The voice came out of the darkness. Its sound was almost deafing to Alec, and he cringed at it. So long without hearing anything, it was like a hammer against his temples, and the suddeness of it caused his heart to leap within his chest. And then the light came...

Brilliant, piercing light suddenly filled his eyes. It was nearly enough to throw his entire body into shock and unconciousness, but these people knew he was a strong man, both mentally and physically. Even with his eyes tightly, almost painfully, closed, the light penetrated deep. The after image of the brief moment where they were open was a photo negative within his mind. The room was stark and barren with the exception of the tubes running from his arms to somewhere behind him.

But the image of 'The Man', cast in shadow caused him to focus. Judging from the negative outline behind his closed eyes, the man was wearing a suit, the outline of his body was trim, and appeared fit. But the face, only a shadow, with the outline of a neatly trimmed hair, and what appeared to be a thin beard.

"You must think that we are treating you quite unfairly." The Man's voice stated. Alec could just make out a accent to The Man's voice, but couldn't quite place it. "Trust me, the unfairness of your journey with us, has only just begun. But in the end, we will mold you into the perfect Agent, beriffed of emotion, purged of mercy, and you will know what our cause is just, and our methods are for the best of Mankind."

"F..Fuck....you." Alec barely managed to get out before his clenched his teeth together as a massive jolt of electricity surged through several of the many wires attached to his body. His body arced up off the table as his under used muscle screamed in protest at the assault on their weakened state.

The Man laughed at the act of resistance, a culture and controlled sound. "Oh, my dear boy, you are 'perfect' for this little experiment. Please do continue to fight against us, it makes everything that we will be doing all the more sweet. Not to mention it will be educational for us as well."

The electricity stopped, and Alec's body fell back to the table. Alec lolled his head to the side, still trying to escape the direct beam of light on his face. "Wh....why?"

"Why?" The Man's voice sounded almost bemused. "Why, for no other reason than to punish you. Punish you for your actions while in the employ of that overconfident and pitiable man Fury. Oh yes, I know 'all' about you and his little Special Operation group he has begun to build around himself."

There was a pause from The Man, and then suddenly the light went out, and darkness came back like a smothering avalanche. "But that is a conversation for another time Alec." The Man continued. "For now, let the punishment begin."

"Daddy, I can't wait to go to Disneyland next month!" Suddenly Tyler's cheerful voice echoed around the room. Alec's eyes widened in the darkness, his mouth fell open..He remembers his son's voice telling him this just months prior to the attack.

"No....." Alec whispered under his breath, his heart suddenly thumping in is chest.

"Alec, you need to take a break baby." The voice now changed to his wife Millie, her voice tinged with concern. "You can't keep doing this, the Director needs to give you a break."

"Honey, it's my job. Fury needs me to..."

"GOD DAMN FURY!"
His wife's voice suddenly lashed out. "I NEED YOU!!"

Alec cringes at the sudden anger in her voice. He remembers this conversation, and several like them.

"Noo...."

"I love you Daddy." Tyler's voice returns followed by giggles.

"Nooo...."

"You are my love and my life Alec." Millie's voice states. "You have given me so much.

"NOOOOOOO!!!!!" Alec's primal scream fills the blackness of the room, the walls rebounding the scream causing it to reverberate for several seconds. In a way, it brings the darkness to life.

The Man exits Alec's room through a soundlessly automatic door, into a equally pitch black anti-room. The special contact lenses allow him to see perfectly well in the dark. Once the door to Alec's room closes, as well as cutting off the raging scream of Alec, another opens revealing a well-lit hallway, and across from him another door stands before him.

A man in a white lab coat approaches The Man, and hands him a iPad. The Man takes it, and reviews the various findings and results, nods his head and hands to pad back to the gentleman in the coat without so much as looking at him.

"Continue with the Audio for a month, no one is to enter the room until then." The Man states plainly.

"A...month, Sir?" The lab tech stammers. "Sir, no one has survived that long a period of time in complete isolation, under such mental duress."

The Man begins to key in the code of the next door. "If the subject dies, then you will replace him. Is that understood?" There is no implied threat in The Man's voice, he states it as if he were stating that the sky is blue, and the Sun will rise in the east.

The Lab Tech swallows hard. "Yes....Yes Sir."

"Very good." The Man states and steps through the next door.

This room is in complete contrast to the one that houses Alec Chambers. Inside, the room is bathed in complete white light. Dozens of intense wide angle beams completely encircle the room so that even the various electrode lines and I.V. Drip line do not cast a single shadow on the floor. If it were not for the special contacts that The Man wore, he would have been blinded instantly.

As it was, he could see perfectly the young man, or the being that appeared to be a young man, that is bound on an upright table, his arms and legs held firmly in place with binders. His youthful face had ruggishly handsome features, with only his eyes covered to prevent him from being blinded by the intense lights.

The Man smiled slightly as he looked at him, it had taken him some time to track this particular mutant down after his agents lost him upon his arrival to the United States. Those agents had paid the ultimate price for their lack of surveillance with their lives. He had, after all, spent quite a good sum of money to get this man on the ship that carried him to the U.S. But eventually, he was able to track him down in San Francisco, where he worked at, and The Man smiled broadly at this, a.... cemetary.

The Man had lost nearly half of the extraction team that assaulted this man's slumlord apartment. 12 men, and a demolished apartment dwelling later, they were finally able to subdue him, and get him here. From the reports that The Man had received of the assault, some of the team died in quite a horrible fashion.

Quietly he walked around the upright table holding the man, and then peered closely at the clear pane of plexiglass that exposed the man's back. There, tattooed with what appeared to be quite a professional hand, was the image of out spread wings, between them a beautifully rendered Celtic Cross, with a collection of human skulls at the base.

"Beautiful artwork." The Man said softly.

The sound of his voice caused the bound man to jerk his head from side to side, as if trying to locate the sound. "Who's there?"

"Good Morning Mr. Doran." The Man said. "Or do you prefer....Rook?"

"I don't bloody well care what ye call me." Conell replied swiftly. "I want to know who the feck ye think ye are and why in the many circles of hell ye've brung me here?" his voice was hoarse, weakened, yet the tone of the motherland still shown through.

Doran struggled at the restraints holding him to the table, less out of any faith that it'd do him any good, and rather simply as a posturing display to his mystery visitor...

The Man admired this mutant's bravado and smiled broadly, even though Rook could not see it. "I can assure you dear boy, that I have only the best intentions for you. I am, after all, the one that rescued you from your stasis pod, and prevented the IRAX from further using you for their own corrupt means."

"Din, ye don't need ta have me trussed up like a bleedin' tom. Nor did ye need ta send a bloody armed group o' soldiers ta kidnap me!" Rook replied.

"That..."The Man stated. "...That was a 'misunderstanding', on their part. One, that half of them will never have to worry about again."

"Mr. Doran, I'm not going to bandy about the bush here with you." The Man began as he slowly walked around the table. "I spent a good deal of money and resources to get you here all the way from Ireland, and there is a reason for that. I am 'recruiting' people...special...people, like yourself, to help me rid this world of those that believe that they know what is best for everyone, even though everyone does not agree with their methods or principles."

"I'm sure, that since your awakening, you have seen how the world has changed. Wars, both from enemies within, and even those from beyond our own galaxy. The last war with the Chrell damn near killed us all, and we have only just begun to rebuild from that. We can thank our dearly departed 'Heroes' for drawing their attention and causing the mass destruction that they brought to our world."

"But...where are they now?" The Man poses the question, and pauses for a moment. "I'll tell you. They are dead. And thankfully so."

"Don't get me wrong Mr. Doran, they 'did' save us, and for that I am appreciative. But it was because of their own meddling in things that they did not understand, that gained the attention of the Chrell. I mean to see that we will learn from this mistake. By training a 'new' force of powered, and highly talented individuals to prevent such an event from happening again. And for stopping those people that even now are building their own forces to impose their will upon everyone else. Organizations such as S.H.I.E.L.D., led by a man that thinks he knows 'everything', and what is best for the world and the billions that live on it."

"You see Mr. Doran, I have a plan to give the power 'back' to the people." The Man continued. "Take the power away from the secret societies, the secret government organizations who now work with impunity for the very fact that all the heroes of long ago are dead. We 'need' people like yourself back, to stand up for the people. We need to use force against force, use the very shadows that they employ, and send them back into the darkness."

"That dunna make no god damn sense, ya daft man." Rook stated, as he began to get irritated with the ramblings of the unseen man before him.

"In 'time', you 'will' see Mr. Doran....in time."

The Man stepped out of the room, leaving Doran probably more confused than ever. But The Man merely smiled and handed his datapad to the assistant waiting outside. "Keep him in the lights, and make sure that none of them go out. Otherwise I'll put you in there, and turn them off."

Re: Punishment: An Eye for an Eye

'Patience'.....

The word that traveled through Alec's mind everyday. Through the turmoil of the psychological assault that would have left the average person drooling and eyes dimmed by the constant barrage on the mind, Alec kept that one word to himself.

'How long did I scream for them to stop?' He asked to himself in a voice that was racked with pain, sorrow, and fear.

'It doesn't fucking matter....patience.' Another voice would answer, in a tone that was defiant, cold and merciless. 'Our time will come, we must be patient!

"I..I ...can't take it..." The voice pleaded. "Please, for the love of God, make them ....stop!"

"Suck it up you fucking pussy!" The other voice yelled at him.
"Their day will come, and when it does. Sweet fucking Jesus, that day will be glorious. All of them will pay...patience Alec. That day is coming...soon. Punishment will be ours to give."

Dimly in the darkness, between his agonizing groans and his spasms that caused his entire body to flex against his leather bonds, his muscles to tighten, loosen, and then tighten again, the technician stepped through the darkness to make his daily observation of the subject.

The tech's iPad was dimmed to it's lowest level, but with his special light enhanced contacts, he was able to see the screen perfectly.

On the screen he types:

--Subject continues the muscular spasms against his bonds, which has now been occurring for 3 months straight at regular intervals during the day.--

--The working theory is that his Central Nervous System is beginning to degrade sending regular miscued impulses to the muscles, causing them to flex and release. **side note** It should be noted that this condition actually keeps his muscles quite toned and fit. We should have our Neuro Department dissect the brain once the subject passes, the information might be useful in our Genetic Acceleration Project.--

--Subject continues...surprisingly..to resist the audio and visual stimulus after nearly 52 weeks of continuous application. His SHIELD mental training, it is assumed, must indeed be incredible for them to be able to resist such torture for this period of time.--

--Perhaps we could request our operatives to obtain the training regiment from our moles inside the SHIE...--

I brightly glowing liquid substance suddenly splashes across the iPad's screen, blotting out his typing. He begins to say something, but realizes that he can't speak, and then also realizes that there is a dull painful feeling on the side of his neck. Reaching up, he feels a thin object protruding from the side of his neck, and a warm rush of liquid flowing through his fingers.

The Tech looks up and looks into the light green hued face of the subject, whom is now sitting up on the table, his eyes glow brightly within the light enhancing contacts...within those eyes righteous fury glows. They are the last things that are seared into the tech's eyes before he collapses from the loss of blood, due to his own pen piercing the artery in his neck.

As the tech slumped over, Alec quickly laid his body back on the table, so that when the Security Officer that was monitoring all CCTV feeds turned back around from refilling his coffee, the green hued persons in Alec's cell did not appear to have changed. He quickly pulled a pair of wrap around sunglasses from the tech's pocket and put them on.

Alec's body shook with tension and anticipation as he had to literally control his pace as he walked to the door. His feet wanted to run to the door that would lead to his freedom, but he knew they would be watching using other means. He had been bidding his time for months now, learning their habits. Most importantly, he was gaining information about his surroundings. While the screens of the iPads were dimmed, to a man that had lived in darkness for so long, his eyes adjusted to it, and the pads may have been dimmed, but to Alec it was as if the Sun lit up the room.

The spasms he had been having for the last 3 months were nothing but high impact muscle toning exercises, flex and holds against his bonds, to get his arm and leg muscles back into some semblance of shape for the day when an opportunity would arise...like today.

This particular tech was 'weak', always leaning over him, getting too close, much like yesterday when the tech leaned over him, and he was able to snatch the metal stylus pen from the tech's pocket. When the tech exited, Alec was able to twist the stylus in half, and it took him hours to cut through the straps that held him. The fact that the tech always had the wrap around sunglasses with him was nothing but fate at work, and the clincher that this one would be the chosen one.

Alec leaned against the wall next to the anti-chamber that lead into the main hallway. Keeping his body in a relaxed state, with the tablet held out a bit as if he was reading something, so the guard watching the CCTV wouldn't think anything was amiss, Alec thought about his next move for a moment. Alec then stepped into the darkened anti-chamber.

The door to the main hallway slid open and the guards standing outside on either side became puzzled when the tech did not step out, and then both craned their head around the corners of the doorway.

There was a sudden snapping sound, as Alec broke the tablet in half and swept the broken edges of the tablet across each of the guards necks. Neither of them had time to react, as their necks were neatly sliced in half by the broken, jagged plastic edges of the broken iPad. Both guards re-actively reached up to their throats to try and stymie the flow of blood, while Alec grabbed them both by the back of their armored vest and pulled them into the darkness of the anti-chamber, the door sliding shut behind them muffling the sound of Alec stomping both of their necks with his bare feet to end their misery.

"God Dammit!" Came a voice, several minutes later, outside in the corridor. "Smith...Charles! Where in the name of Holy fucking Christ are you two?!"

The Security Captain slammed his fist on the controls outside the door they were suppose to be guarding, and when the doors hissed open, the last thing he expected to see was the bodies of his guards lying in pools of blood.

He was only able to briefly glimpse the form of a man standing in the shadows of the small room, before the knife entered just under his chin, through his mouth and into his brain. Alec had caught him mid-scream and could clearly see the shining silver of the blade behind the officers front teeth, before he withdrew the blade, and the officer slumped to the floor to join his subordinates.

Alec quickly outfitted himself with the body armor, weapons and boots of the fallen officers. He secured the half-mask face piece to his lower jaw, and when he looked into his shadowy reflection of the glass, with the combination of the half gas mask and wrap around glasses, he saw the face of Death staring back at him, a skull with shadowed eyes.

This grinning skull-like reflection did not startle Alec in the slightest. If anything, he found the image fateful, almost anti-climactic, in his current situation.

"They wanted to punish me." He whispers to the image. "I'll show them what punishment means."

Slowly he leaned his head around the corner of the door and peered down the hallway. No other guards were present, but he knew that it would only be a matter of time before the dead guards would be called or discovered.

Stepping out into the hallway, he noticed that it was lined with several doors for at least 50 yards, on both sides of the hall. As he walked down the corridor, the noticed that each of the doors had faceplates with strange icons, or emblems, on each one. No names, only the emblems.

Emblems for ice, water, wavy lines, electricity and one with the chess piece emblem for a Rook. One door at the end of the corridor had a faceplate with a glowing emblem of fire, with what appeared to be a plane or a bird at the top. Just as he was placing his hand on the fire emblem, from the far end of the hall, the elevator door dinged and began to open.

Alec moved quickly, running towards the slowly opening door, snatching a flashbang from his tactical vest and in one fluid movement, he pulled the pin with his thumb and threw the flashbang in the 2 inch gap of the opening door.

The flashbang exploded, just as Alec slid the death officers card on the controls of the door with the Rook emblem on the faceplate, and was extremely glad that he was wearing the sunglasses, as the room was bathed in harsh bright lights. Squinting his eyes, even with the glasses on, he could make out a man lying strapped to a table.

Drawing the .45 from his holster, he blasted the lights in the room, more for his own protection, and little knowing why the room was kept so bright.

Klaxons begin a constant rhythmic blare as the explosion in the elevator has at last given alarm to his deeds. Aiming his rifle down the hall, he unleashes the rounds on every panel and light lining the corridor. Eventually a round pierces the main power conduit and the entire hall goes black, until the emergency lighting automatically comes on.

"Let's see how they like the dark, and what is waiting for them." Alec says silently.

It was as if he had fallen into an endless ocean of cool, refreshing water after wading through a desert for all of eternity. Conell hardly had enough time to register the fact that someone had come into the room before the deafening report of a large caliber hand gun echoed through his isolated prison. Mere moments after recovering from the sonic abuse, however, the Irishman sucked in a long, slow breath as the darkness returned, as if caressing his tortured soul.

He wasted no time. No matter who this being was, and no matter why he had decided to disable the restraining illumination. Conell had to seize this opportunity to escape. He called to the darkness and transformed into the form of a Rook in absolute silence. He was underpowered, though, been trapped here in isolation for far too long without an ektosource. So he was forced to revert back to form in an abrupt shower of feathers as black as the void. Seeping into the shadows, pulling them around him as he did so, he pressed his back up against a wall, his sage colored eyes falling on Alec kneeling in the doorway.

"Let's see how they like the dark, and what is waiting for them."

"I think they won't care very much for the darkness." Conell spoke, confident in the shadows ability to completely conceal him from the unknown man.

Alec seemed unphased by the shower of feathers, though he momentarily had a quizzical look upon his face. "What the hell..."

Alec felt the presence before he heard the ethereal voice from the shadows, and trained the shotgun in his other hand towards the voice, while keeping the Assault Rifle ready at the doorway.

"Listen, we don't have time to fuck around and have a little meet and greet session. Needless to say, we are both in the same situation, and we need to get the fuck outta here."

"With that said.." He flips the shotgun around, and presents the stock of the weapon at the shadow. "We need to work together, because I can hear them coming down the hallway. When they see their dead friends, all hell is going to break loose."

Conell paused for only a moment before he dropped the shadow cloak and reached out to take hold of the shotgun. "Well why didn't ye fecking say so?" He spoke, checking the weapon over with military precision.

The Irishman stepped over to the other side of the doorway and crouched down, glancing over at Alec's uniform, then back down at his own bare chest. "Nothing like being under-dressed for the party." He joked.

The only reply he got was Alec pulling the charging handle back on his rifle. 'Tough crowd' he thought to himself. If it was an escape they were attempting, a squad of guards running down a darkened hallway might as well of just been serving themselves right up on a platter. Now that he was nearer to the corridor, Conell could sense the ectoplasmic residue oozing off of the recently deceased guardsmen and immediately started to feed off of it. He then grinned slowly and stepped out into the hallway. "Keep up with me, son, if ye can." He spoke to Alec as he once again disappeared into the shadows.

Having charged up some of his reserves, he transported himself in a silent poof of darkness two meters ahead up the hallway, re-materializing in complete camouflage directly behind the charging security. Without thought, joy, or remorse, Rook pulled the trigger and cut down the rear most guard. By the time the next closest man turned to react, he'd already pumped the next round home and had finished aiming. Another stroke of the trigger left the second enemy with a gaping hole where his chest used to be. The other guards were now frantically firing in the direction of the shotguns last muzzle flash.

It was far too easy for Conell to take advantage of their confusion and lack of professionalism. He transported into the shadows between the two fire teams and unloaded another pair of shells before the hammer struck home on an empty bolt. Tossing the shotgun at the nearest guard, Conell quickly dove to the ground, firing a rapid succession of dark matter projectiles at the remaining security. Seconds later he was standing amidst the carnage, absorbing more ectoplasmic residue as Alec approached.

Alec stepped past the smarmy Rook, his eyes unreadable behind the sunglasses, his expression hidden beneath the gas mask covering the lower half of his face.

But his walk was slow and deliberate as he stepped to the corner of where the hallway crossed another. Bending low, he peered around the corner slowly. Lights flickered and power lines popped and sizzled where arrant rounds hit them, but Alec could see perfectly fine. Picking out the group of half a dozen guards, their weapons, and immediately picking out the vulnerable spots in their armor.

Moving his head slowly, so as to not allow the enemy to spot sudden movements, he looked down the opposite hallway and saw a matching group of guards coming. He could pick out their voices as they quietly spoke to the other team and were coordinating their approach.

Alec inched back away from the corner, and then turned to Conell. Alec assumed from Conell's actions and familiarity with the shotgun, that he must have been trained, and from the sound of his accent, Alec thought he was most likely IRA. Alec used hand signals to indicate the two group converging on their position, and what he wanted Conell to do.

"Boyo, some o' those hand signals I dunna know if yer' flipping me off, or what...but I think I got the gist o' what yer wantin' me to do." Conell whispered quietly.

Alec silently sighed, whether in frustration or just getting ready for the assault is unknown.

"Go" Alec pointed towards the group coming from the left. With a nearly silent 'paff" Conell disappeared.

Sudden screams and weapons fire began filling the hallway to the left, which directed the attention of the group coming from the right. Alec flipped the Flashbang careening over the walls of the right hallway, and the explosion flashed in the corridor. Alec moved into the hallway standing fully erect, his rifle firing in controlled bursts. Guards faces shuttered grossly as the rounds penetrated goggles, or open necks. Those that he had no immediate vulnerable openings got rounds in their legs to add more misery to their already disoriented consciousness from the flashbang. As the last round exited the barrel of the rifle, he immediately dropped it, and unholstered his .45, and continued to kill any disoriented guard still living.

Suddenly a door near the end of the hallway that Alec was standing in slid open. The clank of metal on metal flooring was unmistakable as the Droid Guard stepped into the hallway.

"Well, something different." Alec managed to quip before the droid's arms quickly transformed into a rather large weapon with a barrel that Alec could probably stick his head into.

Alec pushed the door controls on the one next to him, and only by shear luck did the door open, and with only a second to spare the droid's blasters blasted the spot that he was just standing at, exploding flooring, walls and wiring everywhere.

Alec's mind was whirling as he looked around his surrounding for something to use, as he heard the clanking steps of the droid as it was approaching the doorway. Alec slid back against the furthest wall in the darkened room that he was in, as the droid rounded the corner, and both barrels raised, as the droids sensors found him in the darkness.

"Shit.." Alec sighed. Getting so close to freedom, his body was not in top form, and failed him. The rising whine of the droid's weapons filled Alec's ears. "Fuck you..." stated in defiance.

Suddenly a shadow moved in the room. The gleam of silver flashed in the stuttering light coming in from the hallway, and then what appeared to be a silver gauntleted hand buried itself deep into the chest of the droid, who was then lifted into the air and slammed forcefully into the solid metal flooring. There was a brief sputter and flash of electricity, and warble of electronic screeching and then the droid lay motionless.

Alec then could see the silver hand, was attached to an equally silvery metal arm attached to a man who's face was covered by a black half-mask and what appeared to be tactical goggles over his eyes, all under a long scruff of light brown hair that fell onto his shoulders.

"Move your ass, more will be piling into this area." The dark figure stated commandingly. "We need to reach the corridor at the end of this hallway to get out."

Conell might not have known exactly what Alec was trying to tell him with the hand signals, but he did decipher that the left corridor was his responsibility. He'd figure out the rest once he got there. Nearly instantly he transported into the shadows of the corridor. Immediately Rook took command of the darkness around the first line of guards feet as he swiftly wrapped the darkness around their ankles and yanked them all to the floor.

With that group temporarily incapacitated, and with Conell still enveloped in a cloak of darkness, he focused on the next line. Due to his mutant abilities and his inhuman relationship with the dark, Rook enjoyed a certain level of increased senses when the light was driven from his surroundings. This meant that even from the distance of a handful of meters, he could clearly make out the men and their equipment. A short moment of study located significant weaknesses where limbs met the rest of the body.

So as the rest of the guards began to regain composure and resolve against an unseen enemy, Conell fashioned himself a small supply of circular disks composed of dark matter, and began hurling them into the group. As the first dark purple disc sliced its way through the left hip of one of the guards, toppling the now one-legged man to the ground, a panic struck the rest of the group. Some screamed, the rest tightened down on their triggers. Connell simply transported himself behind the group and amputated another three guards below the waist.

As the first group regained their feet and what was left of their composure, however, he was running short on options. With an almost disappointed shrug, he called upon the darkness and pulled a grenade from one of the guards vests, pulling the pin and letting it fall to the ground and roll in front of them. Conell turned away from the blast, covering his ears as it went off with a deafening boom.

When he turned back, however, there appeared to be no damage. The grenade was only a flash bang. "Fer the love of- Oi!" He exclaimed, rolling forward to snatch a rifle off of the ground, he emptied its clip into the disoriented guards, leaving none alive. After taking a moment to slip into one of the guards uniforms, he turned to regard the mess.

"Poor Saps, ye never had a chance." He commented as he drew in some of their fresh ectoplasm. Sensing a moment of reprieve before undoubtedly another set of guards would arrive to their slaughter, Conell hustled back down the corner towards his new... friend. "Oi! Grumpy, dunna suppose ye've got a fag on ye do ye- Oh. Anuther un."

The power outage had not only affected the area that confined the three current escapees, but also several other parts of the complex as well. In one particular wing was a strangely marked door, with four armed guards outside at any given time. One of the lab workers was inside with another armed guard when the lights went out. The two guards nearest the door looked at each other conspicuously when there was nothing heard for several seconds. "Ray, you all right in there?" one of them spoke through the door.

He nodded to the other, and they opened the door slowly, automatic weapons at the ready. Their flashlights scanned the room, looking for either the worker, the guard, or the resident of this particular room. "Oh, shit..." one of them mumbled.

"What is it?" the other asked. "What did you find?" He turned to see the first man's light focused on the ground. "What the Hell..."

Before he could finish his sentence, a sharp object protruded through his chest, and he gasped for air as he was raised off the ground. The other guard spun to face him, eyes wide in horror. "HQ, Subject 113 is loose! I repeat, the creature is -" he was interrupted by a scream of agonizing pain and was abruptly silenced thereafter. The other two guards came rushing in and started firing at the general direction of the threat, but they were too late, and as they concentrated their firepower something cleaved their heads clean off their bodies.

It moved passed their collapsing corpses without so much as a casual regard for its handiwork, before disappearing into the hallways.

* * *

So, we're to just go in, without so much as a single consideration for a well thought out plan, find the target, and Bob's your uncle, we get paid?

Yeah, pretty much. All we gotta do is infiltrate the facility, find the target, and do the dirty deed.

He checked his submachine guns for the final time as they neared the target location, the previously-hidden supersecret lab complex.

Oooh, we just love mystery locations!

Their destination was considered completely hidden to the unaided eye. At first he thought it was probably just a cloaking device or somesuch thing, but upon the location's sudden revealing on their sensors it was, in fact, proven at that point that it was instead underground. However, after they circled the area for a moment, they did manage to spot what appeared to be an entrance, a part of the facility hidden amongst some rocks nearby. It was possible that, before, it was covered by a holographic display, and whatever knocked out their sensor jamming technology knocked out the illusion, as well.

"I wonder what caused their cloaking measures to fail?" he heard his pilot say. "Something isn't right, here. You sure you want to take this job?"

"Oh, please," Deadpool said, "if I say no to murder and mayhem, what purpose do I have on this earth?"

Well, for starters, we could always open our own pancake shop.

Oooh, that's a great idea! And we could serve them with butter... real butter... and maple syrup, and...

"Oh, yeah, that is totally happening," he said. "Alright, Bill, bring us down, nice and slow and... actually, just get us in close, I got a better idea."

"Better" is a subjective term.

Okay, okay, flashier! Let's do this!

"Don't wait up for me, honey... I might be home late for dinner tonight!"

Deadpool climbed on top of the craft as it got close to a visible part of the building. He ran for the tail, paying special care to keep his head down, and as he ran out of metal he leaped off the craft. Deadpool brought both submachine guns out and fired at the incoming structure until the glass shattered and he dove through the makeshift entrance, and rolled to a kneeling position, weapons ready to fire, alarm klaxons blaring around him. "Well, this just won't do... how're they supposed to hear my witty repartee above all this noise?!"

The three main entrances to the room he crashed in opened and in stormed armed guards, definitely heavy duty types. Not like the mall cops back home.

Though, to be fair, the mall cops don't really have anything to offer. I mean, what a joke... they get paid minimum wage to wear a outfit that says "Security," with no real hope of defending themselves.

This is true. Maybe a better comparison would be Taco Bell security. Especially that one time I held them up because they screwed up my order...

Deadpool honed one of his guns in on the first soldier to come through the door, and fired a direct hit into his neck, then brought the other gun around to shoot another in the kneecap. "Bang! Bang bang bang!" He continued to repeat his own sound effect for each shot fired, before holstering the guns and unsheathing his katanas. He flipped over one of the wounded guards and, with one swift stroke, severed his spinal nerves along his cervical vertebrae. "Hehe, you're going to want to have a doctor take a look at that...."

He rolled to another guard and drove the katana directly through his gut, before dislodging the sword and proceeding to get to work on the others. He cut through the throat of one, drove the blade between the eyes of another, and severed the firing arm of the third remaining guard before nearly severing his head from his shoulders. "And the crowd goes wiiiiiiild!" He imitated the sound of a crowd cheering as he twirled the blades a few times to remove the majority of his enemies' blood.

Deadpool burst open one of the doors and proceeded on his way. He waltzed down the corridor like a boss, until he found the elevator, and casually pressed the button. He started humming the tune to the Oscar Mayer commercials. The elevator dinged, and the door opened. Deadpool stepped in and pressed a button. "God, I hope they don't have that annoying elevator music in this thing..." he said quietly.

The cage that they had held him in, had been broken. The fact that they had managed to corral him into a cage in the first place, infuriated him. But that was something that he was planning on rectifying. The man had been in captivity for almost three years now, and this was the eighteenth iteration of the cage that he had finally managed to break down. He didn’t know why they had been keeping his hostage, and how they had done so. Hopefully he’d be able to find out as he made his escape from this dungeon of a place. The techs that had been on the other side of the specially treated fiberglass had left some time ago, ever since the alarms had started going off. That had been his cue. He’d started rioting against the cage, forcing himself against the powers that kept him in place.

Now he was free of them.

Dropping to the ground, he closed his eyes and thought of a distant place. When he opened them, he frowned. No, that couldn’t...that couldn’t be. What was wrong? He tested it again, this time with the area in front of him.

It worked.

He smiled. Freedom was close at hand, it just meant that he needed to be more diligent in obtaining it. No matter. Runes covered the walls. Runes that had kept him here beyond his power. Runes that would no longer be able to affect him. The cage that he had been inside of suddenly sparked, showering the area behind him with sparks. They’d kept an electrical current running through the cage, shocking him at random intervals to keep his strength down and his will subservient.

Walking over to the door, he attempted to open it. But there was nothing. Banging on it would do nothing but alert guards. There had to be a way to get the thing open. Prayers belonging to many a prisoner were being answered that day. The door to the room opened and a guard started to walk through. The guard quickly found himself up against the wall of the corridor. There was a gurgling sound that came from his mouth, guttural, as he had the life choked out of him. The man was silent, his face a serene mask. The door at the end of the hallway opened and guards started running in.

“Halt. Prisoner 46692.”

”Yes, that is what you called me. But it is not my name.” He said. He pointed at one of the soldiers. ”You there, with the sword. Take it and run your fellows through.”.

He waited.

”Now yourself.”

The sword was sticking in the guard’s chest, and he was twitching on the ground as the man walked up and wrenched it, like Arthur from the stone, but this one made of flesh and tissue. Blood spurted.

“For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance.”

There was music to be heard. A waltz to be danced, and many a partner to be had.

Several more Sentry Droids came out of their recharging stations behind the walls and clanked out into the hallway, which was fast filling with gunfire, screams and stacks of bodies. Not to mention several of the other occupants of the compound were spilling out from their containment room and reeking havoc on their tormentors, and Alec actually tried to find a fuck to give...but found none as he leveled his assault rifle on a officer rounding the corner and turned his head into a red mist of blood and gray matter.

The mystery man with the silver arm, and a commanding presence about him, flung headlong into the two Sentry Droids, his silvery fist punched through the droid's armored chest as if it was no more than wet paper. He then lifted the easily 900 lbs. droid into the air and jammed it into the other. There was a indignant screech of electronics and flash of fire as the two collapsed into a smoking heap of useless electronic components.

Mystery Man then pointed to the crossroad of the hallway and hand signaled, with military precision, that he wanted Alec to take the left corner, while he went right. For a moment Alec was about to tell this guy exactly where he could put his commands, but for the moment he knew realistically if there was a chance to leave this place, they all had to work together. He nodded and snatched up the ammo belt and rifle from a guard and tossed them to the silver armed man, who caught them and then expertly checked the magazine and checked to make sure there was a round in the chamber.

In the distance he could hear Conell's faint wispy sounds of him teleporting and the almost instantaneous sound of guards screaming as he did whatever he was doing to them. There was a spooky edge to Conell in Alec's eyes, as if he was a person on the edge of insanity, but at this point a little bit of insanity goes along way to getting them out of here.

Just then two guards rounded the corner on Alec's side, the first turned his weapon and aimed it at Alec's head. Alec reached across his body with his right hand and pinned the now firing weapon to the wall where the rounds streaked past his head by inches, if the weapon hadn't had a silencer on it, Alec would have been permanently deafened for the rounds. As he was reaching across to pin the weapon, his left hand neatly unsheathed the Gerber LMF II Knife from its holder and jammed it into the guards unprotected throat. As the guard's gurgled last breaths came from his mouth, Alec took his right hand from the guards weapon, grasped the back of his head and flipped him over his leg, while taking the dead guard's rifle and slamming the stock into the second guard that did not have time to react.

Toby Hessen looked through his tactical goggle's smoked lenses as Alec quickly dispatched the two guards with a skill and expertise that he was well use to seeing from professional soldiers. All of his known memories are filled with war, combat, training and more training. He had no other memories than that which was taught him, shown him. No mother, or father to speak of. Not even a vague hint of who they were, and why he even existed....other than to kill and infiltrate missions by an unknown Commander, an unknown Organization, for unknown reasons. That was his life, and he never questioned it...until now.

The moment that the power fluxuated, there was a momentary power surge that spread through his cybernetic arm. The jolt flung him from his restoration bed and as his arm's systems began to reboot, his mind suddenly cleared, this thoughts seemed to become his own. The programming of nearly 19 years of training and indoctrination seemed cast aside. One question burned in his mind...."Who am I?"

But for the now, the question would have to wait, as he knew the first step to answering it would be to escape from the compound. He rounded the corner, and came upon obviously one of the prisoners that was holding a military grade sword in his hand, and several bodies with deep laceration wounds on their bodies. But Toby was cautious enough to level his weapon at the being, while holding his cybernetic arm in front of him in a ready position.

"I'm not your enemy, and we need to get out of here now." Toby stated through his half mask. "Once the handlers learn the place is being overrun, we won't be around to give each other high-fives."

The elevator opened and the two guards standing by looked at each other for a brief moment, before, after seeing nobody exit, peering around the corner.

Two swords pierced straight through their helmets and into their skulls, before Deadpool dislodged both and looked both ways down the hallway. One way mentioned something about admin offices, whereas the other lead to the main complex.

You know, as cool as it would be to clear out all the douchebags that have been running this joint, we do have a job to do.

Maybe after, then?

Yeah, maybe after.

He proceeded down toward the entrance to the main complex, and opened the main door. He unholstered one of his pistols and took a single shot, causing the guard on duty to slump back down. "Please, don't get up," he said, "I'll see myself in, thank you."

Moments later, the door to the complex opened, and Deadpool entered. Only to be met by a good dozen guards and a couple robots, clearly designed to keep whatever was in this facility from getting out. And unwanted guests from getting in.

Aww, but I'm not unwanted!

Yeah, tell that to them... they're about to fire upon us, by the way....

Deadpool got to work, and fired several shots from one of his submachine guns into the assembly of guards while working his way to an alcove to get behind some cover and formulate a plan to deal with the robots. He rolled out and emptied the rest of his clip into the assembled, taking down the rest of the guards by the time he was out of bullets, and holstered the gun before charging toward the robots. "Look out, coming through!" he said, and slid under one of them, while taking out his pistol, and fired several shots underneath.

The robot turned around to reorient itself with him, unhindered by the attack.

Idiot! These are machines! What kinda plan was that?!

"Oh, right." He reached down and took out a grenade, separating the pin and dropping the device where he stood, before disappearing between the two robots. He reappeared several meters down the hall and took off running, an explosion erupting from behind him. Shouldn't there be more security around here - He rounded the corner, and nearly collapsed into a small cadre of guards. That's more like it. "Hey, guys, I'm lost... mind pointing me toward the nearest -?"

He was cut off when the guards opened fire on him, several of the bullets impacting him, before he collapsed to the ground. One of the guards walked up to him, assault rifle at the ready, before nudging him with his foot.

That foot came clean off when Deadpool unsheathed his sword and swept it around to meet his ankle. The man screamed in pain, before Deadpool disappeared before him. He reappeared behind two more guards, and drew his other sword, spinning both in a reverse grip before lodging them deep into their backs. He withdrew the swords from the two guards and got to work on the others, focusing primarily on their exposed areas, slicing through necks and severing limbs from bodies. Before long he managed to clear his immediate surroundings. "Man... and I just got this outfit, too." He looked up, putting his hands, swords still drawn, out to the side. "Really? This is how it's gonna be?"

It's not like we're getting pwned all the time... look at our sweet entrance in the last post.

Still... we're at two-for-three, here. Not good odds.

Hey, we still got the Boss Battle to consider!

He continued onward, taking note of the distinctive sounds of gunfire and screams in the distance, somewhere in the complex. Looks like I'm not the only one throwing a party around here.

As he progressed onward through the complex, he stopped and looked around. You know, it just occurred to me... I have no fuckin' clue where to find this guy.... The intel was pretty sketchy, at best, predominately due to the fact that this place was nothing more than a rumor to all but the best agencies. A few guards rounded the corner, likely to double back and reinforce the entrance so that, whatever was going on, wouldn't go beyond the facilities. Deadpool looked at them as they came to a halt, momentarily bewildered.

"Hey, I need directions to -" he started, but dodged out of the way as they began to fire on him. "Damnit... this would explain why this place has suddenly gone to Hell in a handbasket... all these rude guards. Won't even help a guy out."

And to think, we're trying to get in, not break out.

An even better conclusion.

"Okay, okay, I'll just have to find out the hard way." Deadpool spun out of cover, submachine gun in hand, and timed his shots well, sparing his ammo as each bullet penetrated their intended marks. As he let loose the final bullet in his timed assault, he progressed toward the corpses, and took note of their equipment. Ah, here we go. He knelt down and snatched an ereader from one of the bodies. The screen had a small crack, but it was still functional. "Let's see..."

Deadpool leaned against the wall, looking over the device, before finding what he was looking for. "We are... here..." he looked down the hallway from whence the guards came, "and we need to go... down there... take a right... no, that's not right...."

After a minute, Deadpool, figured out where he was going. With knowledge in hand, he continued on his way.

* * *

Subject 113 stalked through the complex, paying special note to the sound of distant gunfire. It was a ways off, but it gave Subject 113 the presumption of an exit.

They could not hold Subject 113 here any longer... but it still felt a prisoner. It would not truly be free until it successfully escaped this place. As Subject 113 turned to another hallway, it encountered three more guards. Whatever caused it to be able to break free, the security was in disarray, and their attention was not specific to any one particular prisoner of this place.

Subject 113 approached the three guards, as they fired their weapons. The bullets seemed to have no effect, as the Subject just sped up its approach. "Shit!" one of the guards yelled. "Gunfire ineffective against the creature!" Massive claws dug deep into the guard's gut, before a blade cleaved the head of another guard clean off his shoulders. The third was grappled by the head and thrown down the hall carelessly. It continued to move without a thought, intent on making its way toward the sound of the gunfire. Where there was gunfire, there was trouble. And where there was trouble, other prisoners were likely attempting to escape. Which, meant that was the direction Subject 113 had to go.

A robot emerged in front of the escapee and started to spray gunfire at it, to which Subject 113 began to weave around and dodge. It threw itself on top of the robot and began to tear into it with its claws, before finally severing several of the main circuits, and the robot finally shut down. Subject 113 darted down the hall.

Three days ago

The dreams had come again. This time further back, back to her father's death. It was a vivid memory to her. Though she had not witnessed it, her mind was masterful at recreating the scene for her as though she were there. The terrorists had held the building that he owned ransom, with him in it, and demanded their family pay for both's release. Her brother was unavailable at the time, and she had never known of any other close, immediate family. Her father's life rested in her hands.

She arranged for the release of both, but to her horror, the terrorists recanted on their end of the bargain, and before her very eyes she watched as her father was gunned down.

No, it didn't happen that way. She wasn't there. But in her mind there was little difference. The media reports of what had happened summed up the turn of events quite well.

And it was all her fault. She was stupid enough to believe that they were going to follow through with their own deal.

She vowed never to allow that to happen again.

She awoke in a cold sweat, gasping for breath as darkness continued to envelop her. No, she was awake, all right, but the room was pitch black. An indication that it was still 'lights out' time. Or what they called it. She could only guess it was synchronous with the time of day. For a prisoner, she wasn't treated horribly in this place, but she was still a prisoner, and they made no effort to hide the fact, though they also never bothered to make it blatantly obvious, either. Save for the simple fact she was being held against her will.

How long had it been, now, anyway? She had lost track after several months. They allowed her to condition her own body and mind on a normal basis, though they did often take blood samples for reasons they conveniently neglected to indulge. To what end, she wasn't certain, and possibly would never know.

Sitting up in her bunk, she dwelled on her past, and what brought her to this place. The details were hazy - was it what they had been giving her, both through her regular "treatments" and the food and drink they provided? Or was the overall conditions of this place finally starting to wear on her? Getting up from her bunk, she slowly moved to the center of the room, and sat on the floor, cross-legged, and fell into a deep meditative trance. Usually these helped when she found herself with these dreams - no, they were more like nightmares - or when she was growing fatigued of this place.

Ever since her capture and brought to this facility, whatever it was, she paid special attention to rotations of shifts, scheduled visits by the various staff, meal times, and approximately how long she had completely to herself most nights. All it would take would be the perfect opportunity and she could make her escape.

Present Day

Her cell flickered a moment, and she looked up, curious. This was not something that she had bore witness to since her arrival to this place, much less her cell. It flickered again, before shutting down completely. It was not lights out, not for another four hours, she guessed. The emergency system kicked on, illuminating her cell in a red glow. Some commotion outside, before even that buckled, and she was left in darkness. A click was heard in the room, before the emergency power came back up, this time a low red tint.

The sound was unmistakable, however, and she was already moving toward her exit. She opened the door, and outside she found a familiar sight; her equipment. Its very presence spoke volumes for a good idea of what they intended of her. But whatever it was they were doing, it hadn't been working. Or perhaps it had, and she was just unaware of it, yet?

After equipping herself, she propped open the door, and peeked around the corner. The hallway was quiet. Unusually quiet. Though not far away there was quite the bustle starting up. The hallway itself was partially dark, and if she kept to the shadows, she had a good chance of escaping unseen.

The man with the cybernetic arm watched as the only other living being in the room cocked his head and gave him a wan smile. The man nodded slowly, twirling the blade that he now held in his hand.

”Shall we depart? I venture to say that both of us have spent far too long in this sanctum of despair.”

A Southern United States accent, honeyed and soft. Genteel. The voice was like smoke, curling around the ears. Indeed, the room had already started to smell somewhat of singed flesh and cloth, lending more credence to the idea of smoke, then of honey. But the smoothness was there. The man finally stepped into more visible light, generously donated by bulbs fastened into sconces in the wall. Red skin. Black hair. Black eyes. The man’s smile thinned. ”Move.” He said, lifting the sword up so that the point was directed at Toby.

Toby turned and looked over his shoulder as the door opened and three guards entered the room. He raised his weapon to fire and then froze. His brow furrowed as the red skinned man appeared behind them, and slashed his blade across the throat of one of the soldiers. When the others turned, there was a noise and then he disappeared into a cloud of red and black smoke, before appeared on the other side of them, sliding the blade in between segments of the armor on the stomach of another soldier and then driving the blade upwards, breaking through ribs, with the force of the move. The end of the blade a good ten inches was sticking out of the back of the man and was point upwards.

Then he disappeared again, and appeared behind the last man, crouched. He reached out and grabbed the guard’s feet and pulled, tripping him forward. Then he disappeared once more, and Toby could barely see in the smoke that was dominating this part of the hallway. The man was just visible, seemingly floating above the guard. It was as if time had frozen. Or maybe Toby’s senses were just that well attuned. Either way, time reverted to it’s normal flow.

The red skinned man’s knees slammed down into the third guard’s back, driving his head straight down. Straight down, through the ten inches of the blade that was exposed, cleaving his head in two. Kneeling on the body of the dead soldier, the man looked up as the soldier who had the blade still inside of him turned around. Eyes widened, the soldier was clearly in shock, the pain that was going through his body so tremendous.

He rose and pulled the blade out. As the soldier fell to the ground, the red skinned man spoke once more. ”Call me Maxwell. Maxwell Cady. Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what they have done.” He paused then, turning and giving Toby a sidelong smile, as the smoke cleared around him, the smell of singed flesh prevalent throughout the room now. ”Revelations. 22:12.”

Toby and Alec both turned and looked at one another after the crimson skinned being slice and diced and made julian fries out of the team of guards. The look in their eyes said all that needed to be said.

"Personally, I like the original black and white film Cape Fear with Peck, but whatever floats your boat." Alec quipped before leaning around the corner and double-tapped a guard that was brave enough to try and hug the wall and come towards them.

"Listen...friend." Toby watched their new escapee cautiously. "We're all the in the same position, and that is to get the hell out of here, and our goal is to do just that...together."

Suddenly two guards rounded Toby's side of the corner, firing their automatic weapons. Lifting his arm, several of the round harmlessly dinged off the metal skin, while several impacted on his hard leather covered chest, flattening and falling to the floor. Toby's body flinched as the round struck, but he made no sound to indicate he was hurt. He thrust his armored hand forward and a bluish beam erupted from his hand, striking the second guard and sending him crashing into the nearby wall. The guards limp body slid to the floor, blood streaming from his nose, mouth and even the corners of his eyes.

Alec turned his weapon to the second guard and methodically fired one round into the man's left knee and then right, causing him to crumple to the floor, dropping his weapon, and grasping what use to be his kneecaps. Alec was about to finish the man off, but decided..'Why waste ammo..let him suffer.'

Alec turned to his new temporary partners. "Listen, we can have a fucking meet and greet later. We need to get the fuck outta here. Anyone know the way out?"

Toby nodded. "I do, but the real problem is, when the owner of this place finds out that it's being overrun, he's not going to just sit by and twiddle his thumbs. Getting out is the easy part, but we need to be 'far' away from here."

For a moment Alec looked suspiciously at Toby, he paranoia getting the best of him. "And you know this ...why?"

"The why isn't of your concern asshole." Toby shot back, the tone in his voice sharpening. "The fact that I 'do' is of paramount importance, and lucky for you. Otherwise you two would be sitting here getting hard ons killing your captors, only to face your own deaths...which I don't give a shit about. So, you can either follow me out, or you can sit here a die."

Toby looks between them both. "Either way, I don't give two shits. So, collect your little shadow boy over there having a good time jumping up and down on those dead guards, like they are a trampoline.."

Toby and Alec both look over at Connel, who is indeed bouncing joyously upon his prey with a giddy smile on his lips, with each bounce blood, tissue and internal organs spray the walls around him. Connel looks up and smiles and gestures to the pile of bodies. "Do ya boyos want ta have a go? It's actually pretty fun!"

Toby merely looks back other to the demon skinned fellow. "I noticed that you have teleporting abilities. How many can you teleport, but more importantly...how far can you teleport?

Security was getting lighter the further in he was. There were a few sections in the complex that were marked as high security areas on the ereader, but he was only going to go through one of them.

He opened the door to the desginated area, and immediately let loose two well-placed bullets, one of them tearing through a guard's calf and the other hitting his spinal cord perfectly. Two more guards rounded a corner in response to the noise and yells from their fellows, and took notice of Deadpool standing at the entrance. "Oh, goodie, a party!" Deadpool said. "I love parties! I brought the entertainment!" He fired at the other two guards, downing one, though the other managed to get into cover. "Don't be such a sourpuss, come out and play! Hmm?" His head turned as a part of the wall opened, and out came one of the robots. "You gotta be kidding me...."

The robot delivered such force that it sent Deadpool flying down the hallway, colliding into the guard he shot in the leg. "Ugh..." He got up and gripped the guard in a choke hold, swinging him around in between him and the robot. The machine let loose a hail of bullets toward Deadpool, which impacted against his makeshift human shield. He chuckled a bit. "Look, you killed one of your own.... !"

He threw the guard aside and charged after the robot, dodging to the side for each round fired, until he got close enough to flip over it. Deadpool unsheathed one of his swords mid-air, and drove it through the robot's sensory system, effectively blinding it. As it fumbled without any way of processing its environment, Deadpool leaped on top of it and brought his submachine gun down on its head, firing several rounds until it finally collapsed. He replaced the submachine gun with his other sword, and ran down the hall toward the last guard. As he poked his head around the corner, the blade came down upon him, and cleaved his head in two.

"And that, my dear readers, is why you should always wear a helmet in hazardous work environments."

Several more guards came from an adjacent corridor, armed and ready to fight. They had come from his intended destination, Deadpool noted. Suddenly, he disappeared before them, and reappeared right in the dead center of the group. "Pineapple surprise!" he yelled, then disappeared again. As he reappeared down the corridor in which they came, he watched from afar as they tried to figure out what was going on. "I believe one of you dropped something." He twirled the pin in his hand as he leaned nonchalantly against the wall.

"Oh, shi -!" one of the guards yelled, before the grenade exploded and sent them flying in every which way of a direction. Deadpool tossed the pin to the ground and waltzed down the corridor until he came to a particular room.

"Ah, here we are." He peeked through the observation window to see the subject within was still contained. Good. Made it all the easier. He opened the main door and walked into the empty control room. No doubt the man who was previously at the seat was one of the guards he had blown up. He started humming a tune as he keyed in the console. "And... that oughta just about do it...." He executed the command, and the power buckled in the room. Deadpool looked around for a second, before turning his gaze back toward the captive. The chamber he was contained within never recovered from the surge. "Aw, damnit... guess I'll have to do it the hard way."

He opened the door, just as the chamber opened. "What the fuck?! No... hell no!"

Before him was a lean, muscular, topless... whatchamacallit. It had lines drawn along its major muscular regions, connecting to circles for apparently no real specific reason. There was no hair to speak of, and its mouth seemed to be surgically plastered shut. Around its eyes were red diamond shapes.

"What the fuck?!" Deadpool repeated, pointing a finger at the figure before him. "I knew you'd be ugly... but... holy shit!"

You're surprised? Didn't you even watch X-Men Origins: Wolverine?

Yeah, but I stopped once I realized that I was no longer in it. So I never saw the ending.

"Now I know why they wanted you terminated," Deadpool continued. "You ain't me, you're a poser! You besmirched my reputation... prepare to die!"

His adversary disappeared, before reappearing behind Deadpool, and shoving a sword through his heart.

"Ow... hey, that's a nice trick... I can do that, too!" Deadpool repeated the concept and copied the move exactly. "Let's see how you like it when someone shoves a sword through your heart! Doesn't feel good, does it?" He swung his sword at at the subject's neck, but missed as he teleported away. "Oh, come on, really? That's really all you got? Pansy."

This opponent appeared once more in front of him and gave him a cold, blank stare. "Dude, you're freaking me out... I love to hear myself talk, but damn." He looked over his opponent, the swords appearing out of his forearms. "Oooh, theme song time! I get to fight Baraka, I get to fight Baraka.... !"

He heard a gong, followed by a low voice saying, "Test your might." The techno music started up. "Test your might," the voice repeated. It said this two more times, as Deadpool just stared at Barakapool.

"Mortal Kombat!" Deadpool yelled, and charged after his knockoff failure. The two battled it out with their swords, Barakapool disappearing when convenient to only stab at Deadpool futilely.

Hey, readers, if you want to get in the mood for this song, you should go play this YouTube video during my kickass fight with this faker.

The two continued to duke it out between the two, before Barakapool appeared before him, directly in his face. The patches around his eyes turned black, and his eyes began to glow red. "Hm... this can't be good...." Deadpool muttered. Suddenly, the optic blasts hit him, and he flew back through the window, and out the other window, into the hallway. Barakapool appeared before him, and slashed at his chest. "Dude, that is so not cool!"

Wait, so he gets the optic blasts, but I don't? How is that fair... ?

Deadpool disappeared and reappeared off to the side. He unholstered his submachine gun and let loose all his ammunition on Barakapool. "Die die die die die die die!" The gun was empty, and he looked curiously at his target, who was still standing there. "You know, if you weren't such a blemish to my name, I'd actually like you a little bit in a weird kinda way." Barakapool launched at him, and drove both blades into his chest. "Dude, what's with the stabbing at the chest? Don't you know I got a healing factor?"

Deadpool brought his pistol up underneath Barakapool's chin and pulled the trigger. The bullet went straight through his head, causing him to fall back away from Deadpool to the ground. "And 'boom' goes the dynamite. Deadpool... wins...." Barakapool healed from the injury, and slowly got back up. "Oh, come on now, you're dragging this out on purpose, aren't you?"

Hey, try cutting his head off... seemed to work in the movie.

"Well, if you insist. Banzai!" Deadpool disappeared once more, just as Barakapool fired his optic blasts at him, tearing through the wall in the hallway. He reappeared behind Barakapool, both swords drawn. In one clean motion, he brought them both through Barakapool's neck. "There can be only one, you fuck!" The other didn't have a chance to respond, and his head came clean off of his body, which slowly slumped to the ground. "Huh... that was... strangely easy...." Deadpool raised an eyebrow and cocked his head to the side, just looking at the beheaded abomination. An arm started to move, and Barakapool slowly reached out to grab its head. Deadpool drove his sword through the head's mouth just as the arm was nearing it. "Oh, no you don't." He picked up the head and looked at it. "Alas, poor Barakapool, I knew him not... nor did I much care for him, either...."

"Shh," the head of Barakapool said.

Deadpool started to furiously punch Barakapool's face, repeatedly, without stopping, then proceeded to start to cave in its skull by altering the blows to the top of his head. Once he grew tired and bored with that method, he merely dropped the head to the floor and proceeded to stomp on it furiously. He unholstered his spare pistol and pointed it at the head, before emptying the entire chamber upon it. When the chamber was empty, he looked at the mess on the floor. "Hmpf. Tell me to shut up...." He kicked the head far down the corridor and walked away.

She had managed to elude most of the few guards she came across, but was now in a spot where she would have to make herself known. She vaulted out of her last reasonable cover and threw a sai at one of the guards, before running after the weapon and impaling another with her other sai. She dislodged the first and used the tips of both to dig deep into the other two guards' throats, causing them to slowly bleed to death, while she finished off the first guard.

It was just a short distance longer before she encountered the next group, yet these were not like the others. They were neither guards nor scientists, nor some of the hired muscle she managed to catch glimpses of. Cautiously, she stepped forward, taking her chances with this group. Her instincts told her that these were not her enemies, but that she shouldn't consider them her friends, either. She came to the conclusion that, based on their drastic differences and the downed guards around them, they had to have been fellow captives, and were the ones responsible for her escape. It also lent to the theory that they would be her ticket out of there. She was still skeptical about trusting them, but her instincts never steered her wrong before.

"If you're aiming to get out of here," she called from down the hall, "then you can count me in." She strode toward them in her red outfit, sais drawn though not poised to fight. "I don't know about you, but I've grown tired of this place."

”How far? Not very. They’ve treated the walls of this place with something that blocks me. I can move, but not out of here in one shot. Get me on a rooftop and I should be able to get us out of here.” Cady said. Then he pointed at Connel ”That one deserves an award.

Toby just shook his head.

They were joined then by a woman dressed in red, wielding two sais.

”A woman after my own heart. Shall we depart, then?

"Jesus, the owner of this place must have stock in Thugs 'R Us." Alec said as he double topped one guard in the chest, and took out another with a slug to the groin from the shotgun in his other hand. "Shoulda wore a cup dumbass."

Toby was looking down the hall accessing the situation when the woman arrived. "Another refugee. I don't know who runs this place, but he has quite a collection." The 'why', he did not say out loud, but kept to himself. Turning to the red skinned being. "I'll get us out of here and topside, but when I said far away, I mean far."

"I can take us anywhere on the globe, I have several safehouses, or places in my memories. But why must we be concerned about the distance?"

Toby looked at the nameplate with the emblem of a bird above a flame. "I don't have time to explain."

Alec looked at Toby. "Why should we trust you? You seem to know an awful lot about this place for a prisoner."

At Alec's statement, everyone turns and looks at Toby, dawning suspicion arising on this faces. "Listen fuckwits, I don't have time to give you all a guided tour of what this place is about, but what I do know is that the benefactor 'used' some of us to do his dirty work, while others were tested and studied. Now, once we are far away from here, I'll be glad to sit down to a nice tea and crumpets and swap stories with you. But I'm leaving. You all can stand here with your thumbs up your ass if you like."

Toby turns the corner and begins walking towards the next corridor crossway, stooping to collect a dead guards assault rifle and ammo belt on the way by.

The red skinned man followed Toby without saying a word to the rest of them. Obviously his best chances were to get outside and then he could disappear. Escape. If Toby knew how to get there, then he was the one to listen to, for the time being. It didn't matter to the red skinned man what Toby was like, as long as he could get the job done. That was the key ingredient. They moved as a unit. Though they had never worked with each other before, their styles seemed to mesh as they cut their way through the opposition. He didn't bother to see who had joined them, he just stayed out of their way, concentrating on following Toby.

The place that they were in was labyrinthine to say the least. They continued to fight with guards, it seemed as though there was an endless array of them for the group to deal with. Finally, they broke into a large room that seemed as though it could take them where they needed to go. But there were choices. Lots of doors.

”Choices to make. You're the one who knows how to get out of here. Which way?" He asked.

Conell looked at the group he was currently accompanying, and with a malicious smirk, he turned to Alec. "Ya know boyo, ye seem ta be the odd duck in this here merry band. I, of course, do what a' do best within th' dark, then we got the bloke wit' the silver arm. Th' demon, who seems ta like teleportin' folk into the ether...which a' cin appreciate, and then the lass wit' tha tiny pitchforks."

"I seen ye work a rifle, but I kinda tink ya can do better." The grin on Conell's face was one much like a child daring a friend to step out further on the ledge of a high rooftop.

Alec turned his head, his cold expressionless face looking over Conell as if, for a moment, he would turn his weapon on Conell as easily as he would the approaching group of Security.

Alec peered quickly around the corner at the Security group of six officers, and without a second thought, he stepped out into the open corridor, much to Conell's surprise. "Oh Jesus, Mary an' Joseph! I dinna mean for ye to..."

His words were cut off as the security officer opened up at the place where Alec was, but in the sporadic blinking lights, and smokey hall, Alec used the bad visibility to his advantage, ducked and rolled a flashbang directly into the group. Turning his back, and covering his ears while holding his breath and straining to pop his ears, the air pressure explosion of the flashbang did not disorient him. The officers on the other hand staggered on their feet, firing their weapons in no particular direction. One confused officer fired his rifle at what he thought was Alec, only to take the head off of one of his own.

Alec stood slowly, turned, and began walking slowly, methodically, towards the detachment. Stepping up to the first officer, he viciously brought his foot up and planted it in the side of the officer's knee instantly creating a wet, snapping, sound of bone and cartilage as the knee bent at the wrong angle. Smoothly he ducked the haphazard attempt by a second officer to hit Alec with the butt of his rifle, and neatly slid his Gerber Army issue knife between the guard's arms and under his chin. The shiny metal of the knife could be seen between the guard's open mouth as runnels of blood immediately began to flow from his mouth.

Alec released the knife handle, allowing the officer to fall to the floor, as he pivoted on his right leg and snapped out a powerful, rib breaking, kick to the third officer behind him that was about to shoot him in the back. The officer's shot instead found the ceiling as he gasped for a breath as he lost the use of one of his lungs as several broken ribs punctured it. The fourth officer was the only one that actually made contact with Alec's body as he lunged at Alec with his own knife cutting Alec's arm deeply, high on his bicep. If Alec felt it, he did not show, as he quickly caught the officer's knife arm, twisted it slightly, while in one fluid movement brought his other hand up placing it at the shoulder of the officer and snapping the arm in a direction that it was not meant to turn, and then kicking the officer's legs out from under him, to leave him screaming in pain on the floor.

The time dealing with the four guards allowed the remaining two to gather their senses, and both were standing pointing their weapons at Alec. Both of them were looking at Alec, or more importantly, at the results of his abilities on their compatriots, which was making the barrels of their weapons shake with uncertainty.

Uncertainty was not for Alec, as he raised his hands in the air, but instead of surrender, he grabbed a bundle of wiring that was hanging from the damaged tiles and pulled causing the section of tiling over the officer's head to collapse upon them. Alec did not hesitate as he stepped forward, and stomped on the throat of one of the guards, who reached up with gurgling and hitching breath to his throat, while Alec reached down and pulled a flashbang from his tactical vest, and shoved it deeply into the mouth of the second, and pulled the pin.

Alec calmly turned around and began walking back to his group, throwing the flashbang's pin over his shoulder as the guard's muffled scream was cut off as the flashbang exploded sending bone, brain and blood on the wall in a deathly mosaic.

Alec stopped in front of Conell, not looking at him but seemingly waiting for some glib remark, which Conell did not disappoint.

"An interestin' use of a flashbang, i'll have ta rememba that one!"

He had made his way down the corridors with little opposition, as opposed to on the way in. Deadpool was getting close to the entrance, thanks to his handy-dandy e-reader, when he stopped at the sound of a violent commotion not far from his position.

"I need to make an entrance," he decided, observing the wall next to him. He produced an explosive device and tapped a few buttons, making SciFi sound effects in the process, before slapping it on the wall. "Time to go boom."

Down the hallway from the others' position, a door burst open with a violent explosion, and a guard slammed into the wall with such brute force the sound of his skull smashing against the concrete surface was muted out only by the sound the blast had made just a split second prior. The smoke cleared as a man covered head to toe in red and black spandex came out and turned his attention to the group. "Phew... that's what happens when you mix C-4 with a bean burrito." He stepped off the door and approached the group. "So, I can surmise from the piles of corpses along the way that you guys are looking to get outta here. Am I late for the party? I brought the map...."

His eyes wandered to Elektra. "Woa-hoa-hoa baby!" He leaned up against the wall next to her and looked her over, focusing on her chest region particularly. "So, if I flip a coin, what're my chances of getting tail? Rrrrrrrrrr!"

Elektra responded with such speed that, before Deadpool knew it, her well-placed fist was already connecting with his jaw. Caught completely by surprise, Deadpool fell back to the ground, and grunted slightly as he got back up. "Jeez, lady, a simple 'no' woulda sufficed."

"I somehow get the impression that it wouldn't have done me any good," Elektra responded coldly.

”We're wasting time. The buzzards approach, to feast. How far? Not very. I for one do not wish to be here still when they arrive." Cady said. Looking over at Deadpool, he shook his head. ”He's only going to slow us down, and he makes too much noise.

Toby looked at Deadpool and then back at Max. "Either way we need to move." He said.

"Get on with it." Alec said. "We've been waiting here forever."

Slow? Did he just call us slow?!

I do believe he did....

"Listen, big, red, 'n' ugly," he said. "I may not look like the devil reincarnate, or have a robotic magic arm, but I got skillz! that's with a 'z'. Slow, I am not. I happen to be the fastest merc this side of the universe! And I can't die. What'chu got to offer? Besides a creepy voice and the ability to scare small children just by your mere presence?"

Toby looked at Deadpool, the goggles and half-mask covering his face so his expression is hidden. "Can't die? Well, can you survive a ground zero nuclear blast asshole?"

At that point everyone turns and looks at Toby.

"Now that I have your attention. This place has a fail safe, which I'm surprised that it hasn't gone into effect yet. Obviously someone thinks that there is still a chance that our little escape still has a chance to be thwarted, which means there must be more on the way other than our resident goons-for-hire waiting for us somewhere."

"And ye know this how boyo?" Conell asks, eyebrow raised in suspicion.

"How I know this is a fucking moot point, the fact that I do means that unless you all want to be vaporized..." Turning to look Deadpool. "That means you too Rosie, not even Wolverine's healing abilities can survive standing on ground zero. But if you want to test that theory, be my guest."

"At the end of this hall is the main elevator hub, we need to get to the surface, and then you.." Pointing at Azazel. "...will need to teleport us all to someplace ..oh...I'm thinking ...say...the United States, anywhere in the United States."

"So your saying that we aren't in the US?" Alec asks

"No, as a matter of fact, your half a world away in Africa...Nigeria, to be exact, and trust me, when the fail safe goes off, it will take half this country with it."

Wait, did he say, "Ground Zero?"

Hmm... what an intriguing idea... we never had to survive one of those before.

Yeah, but then again, why go through all the trouble?

"Yeah, he's right... the owner of this facility went through great lengths to keep this place a secret. Took me forever to find it. Only when the power buckled and its camouflage failed was I able to get here." He chuckled a little. "I mean, c'mon, this guy spared no expense in designing this place." He suddenly popped up behind Alec and poked a finger into his shoulder. "He spared no expense! Just like that guy in Jurassic Park. 'We spared no expense.' Except instead of dinosaurs you have people with special gifts, powers, talents, and abilities. And yet, the outcome is strangely similar."

Deadpool dodged around and looked over the bulkier, though slightly shorter, man. "Nice choice of skull color, by the way. Love the red. It says, 'I just outdid Frank Castle'." He looked at Conell. "Doesn't it just scream, 'Look at me, I'm a badass; stay outta my way and I might just let you live... probably... maybe... possibly... perhaps'?"

"Maybe I didn't make myself clear," Toby said. "Think nuclear explosion. And you at the center. Get the gist, yet? Or shall I dumb it down further until you comprehend?"

"Yeah, yeah, I hear ya, X-Games," Deadpool said. "Get our asses moving, before we become part of the scenery. Got it. Man, you're such a buzzkill...."
